    Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

What do you like about this one video?

As an award winning writer/illustrator, and having written my first 90 page screenplay pilot for a science fiction TV series, which I hope to submit in the next couple months, this interview with Daniel Calvisi is incredibly valuable. I generally draw and paint while I listen and semi-watch Film Courage videos. I mentally check the boxes when your guests mention the elements that I know my script contains. I'll stop the video when I need to make a note to check my screenplay for the element it might be missing. I've updated my script numerous times as a result of listening to Film Courage videos and I'd say I'm on my fifth draft. I also do some reading on the subject of film (my favourite book is Hitchcock Truffaut) and my brother is a source of... usually disparaging information regarding the film business as he is the head of the film department at our local college. My opportunities to get into film abound more than most, but the great idea and the script is the most important element to contend with. At this late stage of my life, I'm doing this more for fun and living out a fantasy, I suppose, but when a good idea digs into one's skull it feels like it might be a tragedy if the story doesn't come to fruition in its best form. So, in order to satisfy the muses who are kicking me in the back of my head, I'm going for it.

Will it be sufficiently gratifying for you to complete the script in a coherent and compelling way or are you seeking external validation or even Industry remuneration for your work?

The muse is a harsh mistress, but for all the right reasons. Happy creating.

This is seriously one of the most narcissistic and self-centered comments I’ve read in the last years of CZcams 😳 Don’t need to brag about something don’t yet achieved, much ado about nothing…

@@spencerdawson6536 Good question. I'm actually thrilled to have got it out of my head and onto paper. I realize the chances of getting it turned into an actual show are ridiculously small. For me, it's good enough to know I tried.

Respectfully disagree that you can't teach someone how to come up with surprising, compelling story elements. I mean, if you think about it, that's pretty much a great script. One of the main tools I was taught was surprising, compelling events that are unexpected. I was terrible at it at first but learned to in the end.
I also learned how to write interesting and compelling characters, having not known at all how to do so, so I would also have to respectfully disagree there too. I don't think there is this unknowable, unteachable "x factor". I learned it, and if I did, anyone can, seriously. I know what he is referring to, specifically about characters, it is teachable...speaking from experience.
I learned how to do it from a certain someone who has been interviewed many times on this channel. I do think that Daniel has a lot of wise things to say here though, very knowledgable. Thanks, FilmCourage. It is great to hear from someone who has worked in the studios and understand what they've learned from that.
