  • Wang Qi, a Chinese veteran who spent 54 years trapped in India, arrived in China on Saturday along with some of his family members.
Wang arrived in Beijing at around 11:30 after taking a flight from the Indian capital New Delhi. He was greeted by officials from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and one of his nephews.
The 78-year-old will head to his hometown of Xianyang, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, where his relatives are awaiting his return.
Prior to arriving in Beijing, Wang spoke excitedly about returning home.
"After returning to Xianyang, I will meet with my brothers and sisters as well as other relatives and friends. I will also see my comrades in arms and classmates in school days. I guess they will be very happy. So will I. After 54 years, I can finally return home and see my friends from my childhood. I am so happy," said Wang.
In 1963, the Chinese army surveyor crossed into India and was captured after being caught by the Indian Red Cross Society and handed over to the Indian Army in Assam. Wang Qi has not been able to leave India ever since.
Until now, it is still unclear under what circumstances he was taken into custody by the Indian authorities and whether he was a prisoner of war, but it is believed he was not carrying any form of identification.
After years of adapting to a new culture, lifestyle and language, Wang eventually married a local Indian woman in 1978.
He longed to go home and often cried himself to sleep. Wang repeatedly applied to return to China since 1977, but never received a reply from the related Indian departments.
In 2002, he finally contacted his mother on the phone for the first time in 40 years. Unfortunately he never got to meet her again as she passed away in 2006.
Slowly he got in touch with his family in China. His nephew visited him as a tourist in 2009 and it was he who helped him get the necessary documents for his passport after half a century of trying. Wang finally secured a Chinese passport from the embassy in 2013 and has since then been receiving financial aid from the embassy.
It is unknown whether Wang and his family will return to India after their visit.

Being nasty provide instant acknowledgement and that's what trolls strive for, and anonymity provides them complete impunity. But, we all forget that internet is not reflective of real world. Real world is much more profound.
e.g. imagine Mr Wang Qi's father in law, who married his daughter to a Chinese soldier stuck in India, without a passport, with history of imprisonment and with no knowledge of his family background. That too at a time when anti China sentiments were at peak in India. He must have seen good in him, something which we all humans are capable of.

For about 5000 to 7000 years of common History of exchange of pleasantries, NOT A SINGLE WAR between them except in 1962, which the neo-communist regime in China declared on a newly independent and unprepared India.... I say, chinese were never bad people (and are still very nice people), its only their European-Born political identity (Communism) which has caused some friction between India and China...... China in the future will run in to problems with all its neigbours be it India or other . India on other hand often compared to China interms of growth can never ever match China , for china being a non democractic country its easy to exercise its plans , work as a unified country for unified goals with no real threats from opposition parties or its plans . while for India its really really hard to progress being divided from wtihin

History as written by non-Indian or non-Chinese, e.g. the book by Neville Maxwell titled "India's China War". I think this NM was a war correspondent around that time. There are also other articles in other books but I think this book gives the most details.
Till today the Indian govt has not release the full details on the factors leading to the war. Why ? The reason is because the indians have been told lies and still being told lies. The recent stand off in "Doklam" is another example. The indians are understandably patriotic but very gullible and the government through the media takes advantage of it.
I will, if I were you, take everything the indian govt says with a bucket of salt.

    • @sps6
      @sps6 Před 6 lety

Yow Beng Lim Indian media is independent and is not state controlled as in China, where even internet is curtailed...irrespective of reasons for war.. China did attack India when Indians truly believed Chinese were brothers that has stayed with Indian public.. It's up to Chinese to mend the broken fence..

I have already told you to read the book before concluding. You are very naive if you think the indian media is honest and fair. Again, please read the book first before commenting. China was and still is an under developed country. It has no time to play childish games if it wants to improve the livelihood of her people. Please visit China if you can to see for yourself if the Chinese are quarrelsome and greedy for what does not belong to them. The Chinese do not behave like the whites and will return what does not belong to them. Just ask the indian POWs for honest answers if they had been treated fairly and with dignity by the Chinese. No point giving your views without first hand knowledge.

Indian Skeptic Indians are always ahead in feeling being ashamed, no self respect and pride in their belonging. I am still to find a chinese or pakistanis ashamed of their own country irrespective of deeds of their country.
