  • An 80-year-old Chinese veteran, who has been trapped in India for 54 years, has returned to his motherland on Saturday morning.
    Wang Qi, with his three family members, arrived in Beijing, the Chinese capital at around 11:30 Saturday after several hours of flight from New Delhi at 05:00. Then he will return to his hometown in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
    Wang and his families reached New Delhi and went through the related formalities and obtained their exit permits from the Indian Foreign Ministry on Friday.
    Then they came to the Chinese embassy in India, expressing their thanks to Chinese embassy personnel.
    Wang joined the Chinese People's Liberation army in 1960 and was dispatched to China-India border in 1963 during the Sino-Indian war. He got lost in December of that year in a forest near his camp and was then taken to India by an Indian Red Cross vehicle.
    He was later handed over to the Indian army and spent seven years in prison. After being released, Wang was sent to a remote village named Tirodi in India's central state of Madhya Pradesh and started a life there. He married a local woman and the couple raised four children.
    The veteran had repeatedly applied to the Indian government to go back to China over the last few decades but he had been denied official Indian documents and citizenship time and again.
    His story was reported by media last month and instantly triggered calls for him to be repatriated.
    Luo Zhaohui, Chinese ambassador to India, said "the cooperation, support from the Indian side, and their unique way to handle the special case really help a lot."

    India and China should be friends. We are two ancient civilizations of the world, I like Chinese culture a lot. The story of this soldier is a very emotional story. We should ask our govts not to promote war.

    India and China have the world's oldest civilisations with history and culture intertwined with one another . India and China should respect one another just like they did in the past and learn how we can both benefit our people . India isn't after China or its territories and China shouldn't support nations that are know to be a hub of communal and religious hatred in the name of stretigic and pure economic gains which is costing and wedging a bigger divide between India and china . If they both work together India and China have a lot to gain , if not God help us !!
    It will once again be the westerners who will milk the situation at India and China's expense like they did in the past !!

      @wadtmb461 Před 7 lety +6

      that's what I want to say. I don't think there is any strong,deep,hatred among us. Not to say nations, people, like your neighbours, your mates, your colleagues could argue for tiny things.Even you argue with your wife,your parents. that's nothing.

      @sandeepsandhu4286 Před 7 lety +2

      Wang Jim Correct India and China don't have any hate amongst one another so there is no reason why we can't be the best of neighbours .
      But the small quarrels you refer to and China's blind support of Pakistan is creating a wedge amongst India andvchina , which China I think overlooks .

    India never issued him with passport because he is not an indian origin person. Thats the reason he couldnt even get out of India and returned to China. His application to both China and India got lost in the beauracracy. China issued him with China passport first in 2001 But he still could not fucking leave bec no India entry stamp and the indian official had no idea How to get that stamp since he was already inside the country. He called all his relative in China, his old mum kept on appealing to everyone But his appeal got lost somehow nobody know How to help him until BBC picked up his story. So BBC helped him basically. Poor guy got stuck in India for 54 years jailed then dumped in a remote dusty village without knowing the language. Luckyly he got married to a nice woman.
