Yes totally agree. Chinese ancient houses are beautiful because they were built to live for a lifetime to enjoy, for living with many generations together, and built for keeping and passing down to many next generations. Therefore ancient people put a lot of thought , consideration and Chinese wisdom into the design and constructions such as Chinese philosophy, Tao religion, fengshui, Chinese literature, Chinese artistries in the designs and materials. Unlike the ancient houses, today’s houses or condos are built fast for money and just for temporary living, and for very small families that rarely eat at home and don’t have times to enjoy, built without much thought, without much artistic character, without Chinese poetic charm, and built without Chinese culture, without Chinese philosophical elements. Today’s houses are designed by people who don’t have deep understanding of Chinese culture, literature, and philosophy, and don’t appreciate the Chinese traditional culture and don’t appreciate Chinese philosophy. Today houses are designed by people who studied in the west, or worship the western weird and valueless styles more than their own beautiful elegant poetic philosophical Chinese traditional style. Chinese culture is becoming culture-less like the west because they are slowly abandoning their own thousands years old great civilization to chase after the fast life, the western lifestyle, and the meaningless uncultured life. What a pity.

It's nice to renovate and still preserve the original historical and cultural charm. Some renovations go too far to change and even destroy the original historical and cultural charms and designs without understanding the cultural and historical perservation... and that is bad and the later generations cannot trace back the history and culture of the design. Renovations that change its original historical and cultural charm will lead to making the history and culture gone forever faster.
