- Oil pumps? EGR valves? Tandem pumps? All of these issues are covered in this video, but how serious are they?
Join me in this video where we talk through the issues and problems that are very common on these audi a4 b7's. Mostly TDI issues, but some petrol problems are mentioned.

Filmed this over a month ago, but it's finally up. Enjoy!
Ps to every one who messaged or commented on my last video:
You don't understand how much I appreciate each individual comment. I read them all, but couldn't get myself to reply to them all because I don't know how to say thank you in the proper way. It's very heartwarming so thank you, please know you are really appreciated! 💕
You're a fantastic channel, the ups & downs you have...the outings...the cruises...the products..."Duff"...everything...Keep up the good work mate....
A4 S-line avant is the best car we've ever owned.
I doubt the doubters have ever owned an Audi.
This week sadly we're parting ways after 240.000ish miles and many happy memories.
Still staying faithful with the A4 avant, but with a newer quattro version.
just bought my overpriced passat , got a great deal on a s line with multimedia honestly i love it so much , thanks for your vids mate
I bought my A4Quattro S-Line in 2009 with 12000 miles on it. It has 75000 now and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a 2008 model 2.0 turbo. Love it!
Nice to see u again bro. i've watched you before when you still had the golf 4 like mine and now am planning to buy an a4 b8 and you also got an a4 haha what a coinsidence. Keep it up bro👊
My dad has a 55 plate b7 2.0 tfsi and it's just clicked over 212k. Still drives incredibly well and there's no rust underneath, just a bit on the front wings
Front wing rust is a common fault on B7’s
Just now selling my 07 a4 b7 2.0tdi 140 after 12 years, because it's a saloon and we got a dog.
260k with no reliability issues at all. Leather interior is amazingly durable, looks hardly worn. Paint has proven really tough as well. No structural or body corrosion. Really solid car.
Another plus: they're fairly easy to DIY, eg. being the last a4 with a manual handbrake that you can service yourself, rather than the electronic ones you need a computer to wind back.
Replacing it with an xc40, I can only hope it lives up to its predecessor.
I'm on my second Seat Exeo ST - re-badged B7 - all the Audi quality for Mondeo money! Sold my 10 plate with 225000 - only routine maintenance. My 62 plate is on 140000 and you would think it had only done 40000. Got it re-mapped to 190BHP - 54 mpg on most trips . Amazing cars
Thanks for your content. I got a 2006 B7 3.0 Quattro S-Line (with almost all extras) and I’m more than happy with the car. Problems so far: xenon lights (bulbs and power modules) needed to be replaced, rubber engine mounts needed replacement (the 3.0 is so heavy) and otherwise just the normal wear and tear parts. The issue with the backlight is also happening every two years, but solvable with some sandpaper. Engine is “sweating” a bit, but with 201k km on the clock, what do you expect. Always in the family, so history is known. And yes, no rust anywhere.
Not my daily anymore. For me a car I want to keep as my future Oldtimer when I retire. Only 15 years more to go. For both: me and the car 😉 Thanks to “Audi Tradition” spare part should be no issue, also in two decades.
Thanks for your comment, good information 😁
i own a 07 reg, 2.0L S-Line, it has 187k on it, and it had been clocked in 2012, from 154k, down to 92k. It’s still going today, in brilliant condition. i think it’s lasted this long, because of how well it was maintained.
My Audi a4 sline estate is 140bhp. Brilliant b7 engine just the cam follower is tapping
Best engine is the 1.9 Tdi, will outlive the vehicle if maintained, also hesitation mid range and hard start is injectors
absolute right my dad owns a 1.9 tdi and it has 500 000km and the engine never made problems
My 2.0 TDI 140hp 8v is at 410000km and still going strong. Maintain these engines and they'll go fat
Yeah has to be the PD engine. Any 1.9TDI doesn’t have the DPF. Not sure what age they stopped but I think it may be 2009.
Absolutely…I just scrapped one last year …260k on it…but was rotten in parts and would not pass mot…it was sad to see her go…what a motor
Best intro 💯✊🏽
Hey Bro!!! Cool video I have an Audi A4 2.0 TDI 2007 Avant (Not an S-line) I love this car and yes it has some issues but as you said once you sort them out you tend to appreciate the car more.
I have done a couple of things on my car like recently replaced the hex balance shaft drive because I never checked it and I got an oil pressure warning and then my breaks went hard and the car wouldn't stop I actually removed the entire engine only to find it was the hex drive but I got to sort out minor oil leaks and stuff. You should use VCDS and do a diagnostic test on your car because the hesitancy you speak of isn't an issue for me mine moves like a jet especially after 2000 rpm when it boosts with or without a load.
Thinking about buying one , cheap 140tdi . Looking forward to vid
DPF-Removal/EGR-Delete is a must straight away. I never thought about the Hex-Drive...Nice one buddy.... I txt your link to my mate...Ironically, he's been looking at these....😃
Awesome 😁
Great information very popular 2.0 TDI vag so lots of people should like this video
Thanks I hope so!
the 2.0 TDi's are amazing. My B7 passat just turned 365.000 km and is still in great condition with nothing but a bad battery (a small amp battery for a 2.0 tdi during freezing winters is not great. Get the largest battery you can and you'll have no issues)
i do have sameone, so far so good.
Porous heads are a very common issue with the BRD engine and also swirl flaps are ones to watch for, you can get around this swapping out the original manifold for the BKD Manifold
I had a passat b6 bmr estate went through 6 injector in the space of 5 months at £450 each time but still to this day my favourite car and I currently have a golf r estate so says alot
The bit where you started talking about the hex key driven oil pump, I was getting some pretty awful smells of planned obsolescence
Not sure if you've run into this but water leaks into my headliner from time to time. I did cut the ends off the sunroof drain tubes and it definitely helped but it does still leak during heavy rain.
I have got the 3.0 tdi quattro avant. They aren’t the best. Injectors are well known to fail, cam chain tensioners fail which my one has. They also have the same hex key design oil pump drive. My one also leaks oil on the exhaust manifolds. And when it comes to service it, it needs 8.2 litres of oil. But it is the ultimate daily drive in my opinion especially with the manual gearbox.
I did have a 2.0 tdi and sold it within a year. Suspect oil pump.
Glad i still have my mk4.
My A4 B7 has a 2.7 TDI, 410.000 km on the clock and she's still kickin' :D
Only headache so far was replacing the upper control arms from the front axle because the infamous bolt that holds these control arms in place (in Germany we call it Arschlochschraube) will corrode onto the aluminium wheel bearing housing in 50% of the cases. Other than that a perfectly reliable and nice to drive car
Ah.. die Berühmte Arachlochschraube, hab mich schon gewundert warum es im Video nicht erwähnt wird 😅
Hi Brad, Great video. The B7 is an absolute treat of a car even with all its faults. Did you have a link to the place who done the hex key? I need to get mine done, ticking time bomb for sure.
Here's the website link to the company! www.dpfsolutionsheffield.co.uk/product/audi-a4-a6-vw-passat-2-0tdi-oil-pump-balance-shaft/
Hi, I want some help if you have any idea how I can fix the cracking that occurs when turning right and is heard by the left shock absorber. It sounds loud and sounds like plastic. Another thing I'm wondering is whether to change the battery, because since I took the car it's 65 amps and I think it comes weak even though it starts normally. The car is a 2.0 tdi with removed egr. Very interesting videos and I hope you do more and more.
Some people have gotten unlucky and bought cars that have been not well maintained. A lot of people said the same thing about my Mini Cooper S R53 but so far all I have done is maintenance to the car.
At least most of the VW Audi problems are common and there’s loads of help online to fix them
I recently bought an b7 audi sadan version s line i love it has problems but love it its from scoland so have the orginal key phob from the dealer and its lowerd and on 19 inch alloys from a b8 audi i would say i didnt even consider the audi i was looking for a passat but i woulnt chnge it tho i would like to do some mods to it its power is 200 and you could feel it its going for a clutch replacement so i will need advice and learn more im still learning bout the car so hopefully more vidoes to come :)
I have a 56 plate 2 litre TFSI Quattro S-Line saloon, the limited edition 220 bhp model (remapped with wide bore stainless straight through twin exhaust and a few other mods now pushes out around 290/300 bhp), has been bulletproof since I bought it new 16 years ago. Not had a single problem with the engine other than the fuel pump relay which gets corroded because of water retention in the plenum where the battery sits (a major problem with the B7 requiring you to remove the battery and push out the rubber grommits for drainage). Only other common failure I get is the constant need to replace control arms and front wishbones because of how shit the roads are in this country.
Hey bro, I recently bought a 2008 2.0 tdi cabriolet. Am looking at doing alot of the things you've mentioned here. I was just wondering if you still have the Audi and whats your current spend on the car doing all these jobs?
I just bought the octavia vrs as my new daily which im guessing is the same engine? The audi does look nice especially lowered
Hi I.m Johan from the Netherlands,
I.ve enjoyed your short vid on your Audi A4..nice !!
For 2 weeks now i.m the proud owner of an 2005 Audi S4 B7 v8 ..4.2 avant a real dreamcar, and i do have a real ,,lot out of the lotety,,
Wil post some more i
Later if you like...
I had a hesitation on my 2.0 after I remapped it. I thought it could be related to the flywheel and the extra torque from the remap.
For reference, my 3.0 tdi A4 B7 is a peach and has been for the past 90,000 miles I've had it. Getting on to 160k now and still strong. Just need to sort the death rattle from the chain which is a bit of ball ache and been putting off for the past.... 4 years. Being quattro, in the snow it is awesome fun.
Could you do a run through of the Carly like device on the A4. I'm intrigued to know what you can change on it. Like getting a digital speed read out.
Hey brad, i have a question for you if you don't mind
A while ago I saw your video about your EGR delete, but I can't find it anywhere
I want to clean my EGR myself (not remove it) and would like to know if there were gaskets or not, I can't remember
Thanks in advance!
PS: if you have any tips, I'd love to hear them!
Whats your view on a VW 1.8T engine ?
Am thinking of getting a Audi A4 convertible 2001-2006 model.
Looks good
I'm thinking of buying one of these next if I leave my driving job. The one I would go for is the 2 litre tfsi. I'm sick of diesels lol
Just go for 1.8T
Or 1.4
Once you change the timing belt the car is going to run a lot smoother. I have a B7 07plate 2.0 TDI 140hp, mapped to 180, egr delete. Until I changed the timing belt and all the pulleys it was rough and noisy. Now it is very smooth. Just hit 180k
Ok ok cuz i have a 3.2 v6 06 model haven’t done the timing chain yet
So in a nutshell would you buy a 2.0 tdi A4 or Passat? I had a 52 Reg A3 tdi sport for 10 years, I did 100k in it and it was faultless. I had it serviced on time and put diesel in it and it was great. I’m coming to the end of a 3 year lease on a Golf and I’m looking to buy again. But what shoul I get, an A4 or a Passat? What spec Passat is similar to the A4 S Line?
Just bought a 2008 b7… Engine light on so changed the EGR valve. Engine light went off until I got 3 hours down the road and it came back on. Different fault this time which I believe is the oxygen sensor, it’s only reading 0.06V so running very lean at the minute. Also had the DPF cleaned so if this doesn’t work I’m running out of ideas!
Have you checked out the injectors profesionally? My b7 did hesitate above 3000 rpm because of a loose connection at one of the injectors ..
Have you done a b7 t shirt yet?
Would the B6 1.9 tdi be a more reliable proposition as I'm told the 2.0 tdi is not as good🧑🏭
Well that was interesting. I’ll admit I know nothing about diesels so the most I can say about Audis is that I think they’re really pretty! And speaking of pretty…I’m missing Duffy! I hope he’s doing well. When do you start your new job? Keep us posted, eh?
Duff's doing great thank you! I'll make sure to get her in the next video 🐱 started the new job last Wednesday and so far it's been great!
Very nice video 👍
Thanks 👌
Hi Brad, having owned a few pd170s your hesitation is also known as a common issue 2 causes see if you have a metal or black plastic inlet manifold, if its plastic chances are your flaps in their are seized or broken replacing it with a metal one is the cure as they dont have swirl flaps it's a easy job to do if its already metal then secondly on mapped cars , they run a Siemens ecu which all other vag engines run Bosch, there is a boost limiter in the ecu which causes the stutter on full throttle if the map is requesting too much boost.i can recommend a tuner who has great knowledge at great prices
Pretty sure he’s already changed the manifold to a flapless one
@@magpierider9218 will be the generic remap il put my money on then
@@leet7031 could be a good shout, needs to get it on a rolling road and see what figures it’s kicking out….Brad if you want a day trip, arrange to see West Yorkshire Tuning.
Does the b7 audi a4 have problems on oil pump like passat b6 2.0 tdi pd?
I’d also only ever use genuine vag oil and premium fuel.
1.8t A4 b7 common issue pcv valve tends to leak along the lines causes rough idle, really bad miss fires etc
BRD has a bad siemens injectors , you can check them , because of the bad start. I have 2.0tdi 140hp BPW engine code had rough start , because of a sensor(camshaft sensor).
Smoking bad sometimes it's had a new tandem pump
Mafia sensor and I've cleaned the egr
and still the same there was oil in the fuel any ideas p.s it's a audi as 20 tdi 170 quattro
Done 90k in mine with minor problems. Wear and tear mainly. Been to Holland 5 times in it
I have no idea why so many people hate B7. I own A4 B7 2.0 TDI 125 Kw (by the way, same color as yours) and also A4 B7 2.0 TFSI 147 Kw and also S4 4.2 V8 253 Kw. I have every each one of them for atleast 2 years and I had to repair literally nothing. I do only filters and oil changes. (I don't count timing chain/belt replacements as a repair, you have to do those eventually. If you don't that's not the cars fault that the engine blows up).
all of them quattro ofc
Audi a4 2004 is the best car ever
Could not fault the car
Every car has some issue
Audi is the best car would sell one for a living lm sooo impressied
just bought a b6 passat estate with 2.0 fsi
Hi anyone know where I can buy the hex key upgrade kit?
I saw one for sale with a gear failure issues, but I'm afraid repairs coats.
You mention you went to Scotland where? I do go to England or anywhere for that point I would be more specific.
I didn't see it relevant to state exactly where I went as it has nothing to do with the video but thanks for your input
Get it Carbon cleaned to sort the flat spot 👍🏽👌🏽
From what Ive heard the 2.0t is a much more problematic engine. Part of it could be because people are more likely to mod the turbo version but anyways thats why I went for the 3.2. I'll pay a bit more on gas if its more reliable. Ok. A lot more on gas..
Should of bought the b6 pd130 Quattro like me 👌🏻
Thanx my English brother... great advice for a wonderful car... but at age of 60yrs and alot of miles/kms on nice rides deems me to ASK the question... R. U. "HAVIN FUN" too bad about some Audi engines lol the CANADIANS got the same wreck
it is expensive to insure??
Hi mate I'm getting an Audi 2.0 tdi s line saloon 2007 with 154.000miles on the clock in a few weeks!! Car looks decent for it's age to be honest.. what should I look out for mainly? Cheers
@Big Tiddys cheers mate but If the car has 154.000miles do you reckon these things have already been changed on the car?
@Big Tiddys he also wants £1795 for it but I might negatiotiate and get the price down..
@Big Tiddys cheers mate 👍🏻
@Big Tiddys somebody also said to look out for hex drive whatever that is lol
@Big Tiddys the good thing it has 10 stamps in the book!! But hopefully the cambelt and water pump has been changed on it 🙏
Change your diesel filter buddy It will fix it
Watching this after buying a A4B7
👁👄👁
My 2006 avant brb 1.9 tdi is just honky.other than the below in the space of one year
4 springs.
4 shocks.
2 seized rear calipers.
Shattered fan belt tensioner.
2 front rattly anti rollbar link Arms and bushes.
2 seized strut pinch bolts(absolute fukr)
Going to buy a 2010 A4 Estate 2.0 diesel but its a rs4 replica
Nice 👌
The 2.0 litre 204 hp tfsi engine is the best Audi engine ever.
hi, like your videos. Have a4 b7 my self 103kw one. Just question any suggestion why on accelerating from 0, Rpm go up and only after few sec car starts driving. Dont know if it should be like that, kinda use to it but kinda anoying in trafic :D
That's most likely the turbo lag, or if yours is automatic they're a little delayed aswell. Thanks for the comment 👍 😀
1.8t BFB no problems.
1.9tdi engine dont have problems with hex drive, and is more reliable
Anyone got any things to look out for with B8 Audi A4?
I have no idea sorry! Not sure what they've changed since the b7. Hopefully someone watching this video can help in the future at some point 🤞
Where’s your latest video gone?
Which one? This is my latest for now 😄
1.9 tdi is most reliable engine on B7 for diesel you don't have hex drive there
Change the brake pedel lever! Then the motor starts to rum as it shuld.. Only 20€
Had d saame whith mine, and the E.SP vas varning and ignithion.. I just replaste the brakesingnaler ar the fotbake.. Took about 20min only, and ..wolla!! All lkghts vent away.👍😋😎
I’ve got an Audi A4 b7 2 years now bought it on 151k now it’s on 175k cabriolet 1.8t fuckin reliable and a stage 3😂😂😂
Make sure it has six cylinders first, don't want that Volkswagen stuff in your Audi
Man dont ever say that 3.0 tdi engine is relaible 1.9tdi lasts between 550 000km and 1.3million my uncle has golf 51.9tdi with that milage 2.0 is okeyish engine but most of them at 250 k starts to burn oil those engines have problems with oil pump injectors valves etx especily eith btc bls and bmk engine models 3.0engine is shit most of them are chain driven at 200k you need to change chain ect cost shit load of money have problems with oil pump shaft problems engine that have pd pumpe düse that old injection sistem when it goes bad say hello to 300euro per injector and most franticly camshaft is that good built it has tendancy to snap
this guy dont know what he is talking about. Best engine in B7 BY FAR is 1.9TDI. then solid 3.0TDI and 2.7TDI.
2.0TDI PN is a worst diesel engine vw ever made.
this guuy dont know what he is talking about. Best engine in B7 BY FAR is 1.9TDI. then solid 3.0TDI and 2.7TDI.

Well my 2.0 TDI 140 PD A4 is running at 250,000 miles/400,000KM now and still performs like new - absolutely no issues, very smooth and I know of many others. The oil pump was the only weakness and then mainly because of long life service. I changed mine for an upgraded/100mm one at 230K and there was still life on the old hex key, even then. Best engine I've ever had by far. Yes the 1.9 is very long lived but it is noisy, agricultural and lumpy, because it has no balance shafts. And the V6 diesels have expensive timing chain tensioners that need changing.
I don't think anyone wants to buy a diesel B7
Don't blame them
Just put a deposit down on a 1.9
Number 1: Make sure it's not a 1.8t.
This Hex Drive you speak of, only on diesel a4 of that year?
Only a moron would say anything bad about an Audi. It's the quality of the fuel that ruins anything related to the drivetrain. I love how the peanut gallery can complain about reliability but then but the lowest grade fuel in all their cars. SMH
Great Video bro, I’ve just bought a B7 RS4 last week let’s hope it holds together lol
That would be a dream 😍 Hope it serves you well!
@@BWTV For sure let’s hope it does, Great cars I’m sure one day we will see you in one bro.
