    Good video. I have a 2012 A4 Allroad as a daily runaround car here in Australia. I bought it with 50k miles. Its done 70k now. I have had the belts done (a lot more than 300 quid here!) and it is very regularly serviced oil changed every 5000miles etc. It has the 7 speed dreaded DSG but no problems so far. I thrash it and it still does 38mpg combined. Its in its 9th year, not a rattle or squeak anywhere which considering it lives outside in up to 40 degree heat in summer and 17 in winter is quite amazing.

    @TheBrokenBass Před 3 lety +5

    I've got this model, in red. Bought it at 32k, now at 70k (though it hasn't moved much this year!), and aside from a rear seat belt buckle it hasn't let me down. Very comfortable and quiet for long journeys, S-Line ride is a little harsh on bumpy roads though.

    I have owned a A4 2ltr diesel s line for a few years now, your review was spot on. Had the clutch and flywheel replaced at £1000 with local garage. Cam belt with water pump was £750 with Audi. Had to replace all of the shocks, due to leaking. The clutch pulley on the alternator seized up which then caused the belt tensioner to rattle back and forth. Front suspension arms upper and lower can start to get noisy causing creaking noises. Front wheel bearings replaced. Air conditioning pressure switch failed. Door mirror indicator LED failed. Mileage now at 130,000. The spec of the cars is weird, I've got sat nav but only part of the postcode can be entered. To have the full postcode entry you pay for higher spec of MMI. No light in the glovebox! My Ford Cortina in the 80s had one. Overall I do enjoy driving it. The car fuel economy shows at 57mpg on my daily commute.

    Hi Matt, as well as the Lexus is250 F sport I bought after your review convinced me, we also have a 2008 Audi A6 2.7TDI Lemans. Had it now for nearly 3 years. Apart from servicing it has been faultless. Its grey with the black window tints, RS wheels, seats etc. Lovely car, just enough power and torque to make it feel effortless. Serves us well as the family car. Keep toying with trading it in but, its on 90k and drives like a much younger car and still looks the part.

    Great cars, I picked up one from coparts with minor front damage. An A4 B8 Avant S-Line Quattro 2.0 170 manual here with about 10k of extras inc a lovely panoramic roof, electric seats, front and rear heating 3 zone climate. It's not as fun as the 330d I had or anywhere near as sprightly as my previous 123d but for long trips not much competes for sub £5k.

    I actually think the push key is a good idea as there has been stories of people outside your house stealing the key signal and using it to start the car on the keyless models.
    Although I suppose they would just break in to steal the key if they really wanted the car anyway, so maybe not so good.

    Even though the comment is a bit late, you should know the door lock issues are caused by the dirt (carbon dust) gathered in the small electric motors that lock and unlock the mechanism inside. Just a bit of cleaning (but quite a lot of disassembly and assembly required) and is good as new. About 2 hours / door.
    BTW: Keyless entry and keyless go is nice, I've got that stock on my car and is the next best thing after the sliced bread.
    And the quattro is priceless! Stability during cornering is much better, handling on snow and ice is through the roof but the downside is the fuel economy, I'd say about 0.5 to 1 extra liter of diesel/100km.

  • @MartinJG100
    @MartinJG100 Před 3 lety

    You are right about the estate. It's almost a juxta situation where the the saloon looks more like the standard afterthought. A good few years ago, the UK was the biggest market for estates in Europe. All part of the welly boot culture. The saloon was very much the norm in Euroland. I think there was subtle change when Audi introduced their quite revolutionary Audi Avant popularised with their 'Vorsprung Durch Technik' Andrew Palmer ad campaign featuring little Wolfgang.

    it might be a bit boring i agree, but for me this is the perfect every day car. i been driving a well maintenanced b6 avant for some years now and not one day was i disappointed owning it. you get a little bit of everything: design, build quality, space, decent performance stats and fuel consumption for the diesel models is also very good. i still like the b8 design and am probably going to buy one of these as my next car - the only problem is, i really love the b6 and it was one of THE most desirable cars to drive when i was 18 - now that i own it and customized it the way i wanted it, it is hard to just leave it behind :D guess i´ll be driving it till it breaks, which is at this point very much unlikely but hey maybe in another 300.000km :D

      @@diogovieira3362 for me neither the b6 or b8 are boring, but i can understand why for some people this might be the case. audi just did not take any risks with the design and wanted a car that ages well - i think that is what they do best actually. the a4 always had this kinda understatement look, it just swims in traffic and is noticed as a good looking car but it does not scream "here i am look at me" unless you drive an s4 or rs4 - but to be honest i kinda enjoy that.

    On my second A4 Avant and I love it, cheap as chips and can be juiced up on power, also its the 1.8 TFSI with 111,000 miles must have a rare one that decided not to chew the pistons. Next car will probably be another A4 avant but I am tempted with an E class.

  • @niclaskuhn2942
    @niclaskuhn2942 Před 3 lety +4

    Hey Matt, Love your videos! You said, that the TFSI petrol engines would bei problematic regarding the oil burning . That is just half of the truth due to the fact, that after the facelift (starting in 2012, the model you drove) there were no longer these sort of problems. The well-known 1.8 TFSI engine with either 120 or 160 HP (pre-facelift) used to tend having too high oil consumption, but the engine with 170hp was and is still much more reliable. So from this side I can definitely recommend this engine. Also the 2.0 TDIs with 163 HP have - at 400nm - much better torque than the 150 or 177hp versions. And they are even more economical.
    Greetings from Germany!

      It’s a good point, and in about 2015 Audi UK agreed to fix affected 2008-12 tfsi engines meeting certain servicing conditions. If one has been “rebuilt” by Audi under their contribution based correction/fix scheme following the US class action they are as good as, if not more reliable than the later B8.5 (2013>) ones. Make sure the tensioner and timing chain was replaced in the process too (will be on the invoice). Absolutely fabulous vehicles, utterly wipe the floor with the competition especially the Quattro, an absolute machine in the wet.

    I've just 2 days ago bought a 2008 Audi A4 Avant 3.2Q Auto with a new Aruba Blue paint job and stunning tan interior with new pirelli tyres, brakes, servicing etc and new snow chains thrown in and OMG, I'm blown away, I've had some cool cars in the UK in my time in the 80s and 90s but Goodness Gracious, NASA eat ya Heart Out !! I was looking for Diesel but this was up for grabs at a Cool price and the Cool price was All I had so purchased it. I had to CZcams how to start it, how to adjust seat and steering wheel but it looks so very stunningly beautiful, I'm just blown away and it all seems so surreal. I used to work for Vauxhall and Ford in the UK and had some Cool vehicles but it would seem that style and specifications have moved on light years in the last few decades. I've more years behind than in front but I'll take this Audi to the Grave, it's just stunning and did I say I'm blown away with it !

As for styling, it looks really cool and doesn’t drive like what you’d think an estate would. The only issue is with parking, being so bloody long. I agree about the spec, mine has everything you could need, but no AC for some reason. You’d think that would be standard in an S Line special edition, but no.

Sure it costs a bit more than the belt to replace but the interval is much longer and you get more out of the 3.0 engine, makes the car quite different.

    What I like about the Audi A4 is that you can still buy a brand new front wheel drive, petrol engined, medium sized saloon or estate car without privacy glass. You'd be amazed how difficult that is these days.

    Cheers Matt, I used to drive its smaller brother , A3's but soo went back to the 3 series. Cheers for the update, still prefer that S90 Volvo but so far no one up here wants to sell one for a decent price - that is Scotland for you, tight as they come.

    Great review as always.
    Just to note the reason people with families would buy a q3 or quashqai is due to the higher sitting position and also child seats are easier to use being higher up.

    Probably a good buy for a lot of folks, I like the look of Audi's as a whole, but not sure I want to be tarnished with the Audi driver reputation, if you get my drift.

      Try getting let out of anywhere in a nice looking Audi, some people look at you as the most arrogant sod on the road. The cars come with stigma definitely

    There are plenty more boring cars than an A4 (Avensis?) and I don't think the A4 is necessarily worse than a C-Class or 3-Series, but different. The bit about the burning oil is absolutely right, at least on earlier models. Liking your channel!

    Can’t see the point of a SUV when you can have one of these. I agree.
    Fast estates seem to be “flavour of the month”. Why not, there the perfect combination. New BMW M340i touring.
    Audi’s ubiquitous RS6 and RS4 Avants.
    Remember the touring car V70s around Donnington?
    I will take the A4 avant or BMW touring every time.........and I do, a ing both on the driveway.
    Nice car Matt, should sell very quickly!
