  • Packing for a ride can be difficult! You need to consider the weather, the length of your ride and how far away you are from the nearest village/town. You don't want to overpack and need to lug around extra weight for no reason, nor do you want to underpack and be caught short. Rich Payne, Neil Donoghue and Anna Cipullo show you what they take on every ride to help you pack for your next outing.

I always take a multitool, CO2 bombs, tubeless plugs, insulation tape, spare "disposable" reading glasses so that I can see what I am doing, wallet, car key, mobile phone, ICE band, all in a hydration pack.

Besides helmet, gloves, cloth, and Tools
      - electric pump(its 21st center, no manual pumps),
      - spare insert (we never ride tubless in Eastern Europe, like..why?)
      - chain breaker,
      - some chain links
      - tire flaps
      - wallet
      - cellphone fully charged
      - front bike light 2000 lumens with power bank in it built-in, so you can charge electric pump and cell phone
      - rear smart 800 lumen diod light that blinks automatically depending on if you stop or ride - it's part of our road and off-road rules for night rides and low visibility environment, like fog
      - some food and water.
      Also - mudguards
ock guard at least on front fork for sure in warm climate, and + rear one in bad winter\mud\snow climate

From experience on long rides away from home in a back pack I carry a pump, spare tube, multi tool, a Thermos with coffee in it, a drink bottle, snacks and a waterproof jacket and pants. If I am not going too far from the car, I keep all that in the car and an extra towel, more tools, a tarp and a change of clothes, perhaps an esky with extra food and drink.

I do a lot of road and some light trail riding. Living in Florida, so I always carry lots of water. At least one bottle on the bike and, depending on how hot it is, one or two more in my bag (sometimes that third bottle gets used to spritz water onto my arms and neck on really hot days). I will usually carry a lock of some sort with me in case I need to leave my bike unattended for a few minutes. My pack always has a multitool, a small hand pump and sometimes a spare tube. Phone is a must, too, because drivers around here are nuts and I never know if I might get into some kind of trouble if I am on the road.

Tyre plugs, multi tool, fast link, pump, GPS head unit, phone, smart watch, water bottle, lightweight lock for popping into shops when I need more food or drink, just checked Strava, 3000 miles off road with tubeless and only 2 punctures which were fixed in minutes.

Wolf Tools 8-bit kit one, a digital tire pressure gauge, a mini pump, an Israeli bandage 4in, a racket tourniquet, clotting strips, and laceration closures. I carry everything in my Camelbak Skyline pack. Plus food and water.

I have a 700 mL Fidlock bag that I take on every ride. It contains an electronic pump, a torque wrench multi-tool, a chain multitool (with breaker, quick link storage, quick link pliers, and rotor truing slot), tire plug kit, zip ties, duct tape, tiny side cutters (really just angled fingernail clippers), strap, and third hand tool. I've only needed any of this stuff once or twice over 10k+ miles of riding, but I know the moment I leave it behind things will go wrong. Before I developed the full kit, I broke a derailleur deep in the Soquel Demonstration Forest in NorCal, and I had to hike my 23 kg e-bike out six miles and probably two thousand feet of climbing back to my car. That won't be happening again.

I bring my stuffed dinosaur incase I get lonely, which is most of the time so she's just chillin with me. I like to also bring one of those USB power block thingies cause my phone is ancient and I refuse to upgrade, so sometimes my phone's battery gets really low from playing music my whole ride, I usually ride with music coming from a small bluetooth speaker in my backpack's waterbottle mesh thingy because earbuds are a deathwish on the trails and I love annoying other trail users with Allan Holdsworth's music. That music is essential for taking me to another dimension if you've ever listened to Allan Holdsworth you'd understand.
And then the obvious multi tool, pump, water bladder with crystal light in it, thin rain jacket, spare gloves, different tint goggle (one yellow, one either orange or dark tint), clif bar, reign energy drink with a mitten to put over the top of the can once its empty to keep the backpack from getting sticky.

Why is a chain breaker important? In some other GMBN videos, they also mentioned that it is good to have a chain breaker. Is it not sufficient enough just to bring a spare link instead additionally with a chain breaker?

    • @gmbn
      @gmbn  Před měsícem +2

When your chain snaps the pins on the snapped link can sometimes stay in and you'll need the chain breaker to remove them before installing the quick link 🤙

For me, I wouldn't go riding without these items:
On a short and long distance dayride:
Handlebar Mount: Lights, Cellphone for route-stats tracking-emergency and photography, Action Camera (it is a must for me)
Saddlebag: Snacks in a form of Energy Bars, Multi-Tools, Zip Ties, Park Tool GP-2, Wet Wipes, Swabs and First Aid Kit, Inner Tubes
Frame: Water Bottle and Pump, Rear Light
On a nice bikepacking trip for at least two days minimum (including from the ones I mentioned above):
20L Dry-Bag on the Rear Rack: Tent, Sleeping Bag, Two Pairs of Clothes and Jacket, and Slippers
Framebag: Tent Accessories, Personal Hygeine Kit, 20L-Camping Shower Bag, Ropes
Top Tube Bag: Power Bank, Multi-type charging cables (USB-C, Standard, etc), Wallet (Cash and IDs), Snacks
