I'm a Trek guy(Fuel EX), last year my wife wanted to try some trail/XC riding with me so I picked up a used Giant hardtail for $250 to see if she liked riding MTB...she did...but, she refused to let me spend the money on her for a Trek Top Fuel that would have suited her needs. I began the search for a bike that I thought would suit her needs but meet the specs I wanted her to have, I ended up getting her a Polygon SIskiu D7. I'm thoroughly impressed with the bike and definitely recommend anyone that can assemble a bike and do their own maintenance to look into them.

Fantastic video Anna. You covered everything you might want to know before buying your first MTB.
I would only add and encourage spending a bit more and getting a bike that you will truly enjoy in contrast with saving a few hundred $ and later regretting not having spent that bit extra and being happy with your bike.

Thanks for watching, that's a great tip! But always consider what you need VS what you want.

Im at that age where an ebike is starting too look good for long trials as my knees are knackered, and use my standard enduro for parks with an uplift, but they cost more than i paid for my car. 🤯

If you're into wrenching a build from a bare frameset is probably the most satisfying thing you can do as a mountain biker...🎉
Apart from all the useful skills you'll learn, of course 😂

Great video, wish I had seen something like this when I started. Get the best frame and right size, upgrade as you go.

I think everyone's first MTB should be an inexpensive full suspension trail bike. You can figure out what you like to ride and tailor your bike in either direction, and that is the easiest bike to sell if you decide you want to move further into either XC or Enduro with a more focused bike.

Last year I switched from Trek Fuel EX to Slash. Although I make 50.000 hm per year I'm not going back. I climb fairly easily even the steepest climbs, but descending with the Slash is another level. 😊

Excellent advice Anna covers a wide range of topics on buying mountain bikes. Another is maintenance costs from keeping your bike clean, particulary your drivetrain to the cost of a bike shop full service to keep your bike running smoothly which can costs hundreds of pounds. Note that ebikes wear through Drivetrain components more quickly therefore cost more to maintain and cost of replacement ebike batteries can be approx. £500 upwards. Thanks for sharing!

It is difficult to make something objective out of something emotional and subjective. Many people don't buy a bike that they need, but rather one that they want.

Just bought my first e-bike but it’s an eBay project. I always buy used bikes as I can’t afford new ones and I buy what I like the look of, but I have the skills (Cycle Mechanic) to make it spot on so I’m lucky that way.
