Joe Mantegna (Airheads, Criminal Minds, Godfather III) on TYSO - #33

- Hey 👋 Goblins!
This week, Rick sits down with a legend of film, television and stage... Joe Mantagna (man-teen-nah). They discuss his decades of award winning work like The Simpsons , Godfather III, Searching For Bobby Fischer, The Three Amigos and 8000 other things. The two met playing father and son on a new amazon pilot about Autism. A topic close to Joe's heart and home, as his daughter was diagnosed at a young age. Joe, ever the professional, gets right into the bits and jokes with Ricky and is most defiantly an honorary goblin.

Who TF gave this a thumbs down 1 minute after uploading?! This person BEGGING to be bopped. Show yourself coward. Reply to this comment.
Had to be a fluke.
Wasnt me. But ill say this. Ive definitely watched more than 2 episodes and havent once even thought about clicking subscribe. Scoop Doo.
Rick its grinding my gears too. I saw it and this person is obviously a jealous podcaster that CANNOT compete with you
Wasn't me even though I hate this podcast. Also you and d'elia doing a podcast together would rip.
Get ‘em Rick. Hit them with the Blitzkrieg Bop.
Halfway through this episode, 4 episodes in "As We See It," and 1 hour since I found the roomba I forgot I even had. Thanks Rick.
Joe Mantegna....wow, talk about taking things up a notch. Great episode Rick!
Great interview, Rick. You got me as a subscriber now. By the way, my recollection of the tryout for West Side Story is a little different. Not only did he get applause after he sang "Maria" it was a standing ovation. The rest is history.
You were there?!
Yes, Rick i was there. He mentioned me at 21:45. However, like him being good glove, no hit, i was no dance no sing. I failed at the tryout quickly, and he left everyone amazed. He didn’t get a part in West Side Story, but got the lead in the following year’s musical.
That is phenomenal! I loved hearing all his stories.
This conversation was so baller! Joe is such an awesome guy! How kind of him to share such a big chunk of his valuable time with us. I feel like I know him a little bit now. I'm going to go watch the pilot for Joan of Arcadia now since I love Amber Tamblyn and Joe, of course. Thanks for a great podcast, Rick! Congrats on the show finally being picked up, you're doing a great job!
Hey Rick, This was a bopper of a podcast. It was as much educational- as it was entertaining. This has grown to be one of my favorite podcasts that I look forward to listening to every week! 🤙
diamondviper77 thanks, bro!
I just binged As We See It, so I had to come back and rewatch you and your t.v dad 🖤 great episode and amazing series!
This is a really great podcast. It's a rare treat to get to listen to such an honest conversation.
I'm insanely behind with my TYSO watch through, but this pod was very timely with As We See It coming out.
The best intro music in podcasting
The intro on the elliptical made me crack up!
So excited that it is only a week from today!
🙌🏻
You can’t cry Rick, cause now I’m crying. What a great episode.
Here rewatching after binging As We See It. Still thinking about the scene where Jack and Dad eat edibles 😂.
This was a great episode! I love your sense of humor Rick but the sincerity and realness of this episode is touching.
Even when I'm having a bad day, Rick's podcast makes me happy. LOVE your parents' basement - the photos on the wall, so sweet 😭
Basically no bits... very touching and real. This episode is very different from the other 30+ and I love those 'sodes very much... but this one is your best yet, Rick.
Ready your Glassman, you'll get that juice you deserve soon enough. Incredible episode. Seriously, thanks. I needed it. First time I've ever felt like I am starting to understand autism. Not only did I learn, I laughed and I cried.
I watched all of the episodes and it was good. I need a 2nd season to continue the story.
Rick again, you've outdone yourself. Love Joe, great conversation, really hope the pilot gets picked up. Would be great to see you acting beside Joe. And ty for lifting my spirits, your podcast is great.
“Rick Rick Rick!”, fan of the pod, I was searching for episodes I hadn’t seen and found this, what a great interview, different pace and truly insightful 🙏
Congrats on the exercise equipment sponsors man.
Best podcast! I work in a non public school that specializes in autism. I just love that your giving real information about autism. Truly awesome one day I’ll see your stand up live #biggestbopper
Oh man I'm so happy 'On the Spectrum' is being filmed and you're in it! Congrats!!
I live in Israel and let me tell you, most originals here are a big 'meh', but this one is truly a masterpiece. Definitely the best TV/film thing done here in 2018 and probably in the top 10 of the decade.
I trust you to do your role justice in this beautiful gem and really hope it get picked up! gl!!!
Hands down, and thumbs up, by far my favorite episode.
Today's the day. It feels right. Congrats Rick, I've subscribed.
Jeeeeesus. I pushed it, I pushed it. I've subscribed, taken my shoes off, and now I'm ready....Gazelle! ;)
Autism wasn't even on my parents' radar when I was growing up. I was called lazy, rude, annoying, weird, you name it. None of the other kids wanted to hang out or play with me. The adults didn't want me around either. I've never felt like I fit in. Since nobody could explain why, I just assumed there was something inherently wrong with me that made me unlovable. I thought I was cursed. If someone had just said, "Jane, your brain works differently than most other peoples', but you're okay, you're not a bad person because of it, you're just a little different" - I would have had so much more self-esteem and I would have loved myself more. I grew up hating myself. When everyone around you seems to hate you and you also hate yourself, it's a cold lonely world you live in. It's cruel. I would have given anything to have someone like Mia's teacher explain it, not only to other people but to me as well. It would have changed my life. As it stands, I'm 57 and emotionally a mess. I'm just now starting to understand myself and give myself some slack, but it's a long road to healing all the damage that has been done.
Autism is exhausting because we're always having to think about many different things within a conversation besides the content: we have to think about which words we're choosing and how they'll be received. If we know they will land harshly then we have to try and think of another way to phrase the comment or question. Then we also are always trying to pick up on cues that we don't naturally understand from the other person. All this is going through our minds while still trying to maintain an understanding of the content of the conversation. By the time I finish talking to someone, even on the phone, I sometimes need a nap, and often times I'll need to self-isolate until I can recharge.
New to the channel and this is far and away my favorite episode.
...so far.
How about now?
MY SHOES ARE OFF!!!
Thank you for this, Rick.
this one was gold ricky.
I think this is my favorite intro out of all of the intros. My belly hurts from the giggles
That home gym is 🔥
Our DHL mailman (older gentleman) picked up todays order's while you were saying how you first ejaculated to the simpsons. He either thinks we're really cool or thinks we're bat shit crazy. Love the pod from one Ricky to another!
The intro to this is jus.....PERFECTO!🙌🙌🙌
Thanks for the new episode!
Best episode ever. I got very emotional watching/listening to this. Thank you Mr. Mantegna:) Im going out to find that dragon and tickle its tail.
Whoa Rick... laying down some hardcore wisdom at 1:02:07 I've felt this sentiment so much this past year.... it's exhausting how easy it is to be completely misunderstood by people.
With me, your host, Rick Gladdish!
Best episode yet!
Dude how does this episode only have 18k views
Ricky Calisthenics. Jewish aerobics. I can see it..!
Mr. Mantegna is the Chill Advocate.

it’s becoming more and more difficult to pick a favoritepisode. another solid example of your excellence, sir.
Mr. Mantegna. Great.
would love a 2.0 even though there's no season 2
My favorite part is when Rick almost said “prefecated.”
1:13:39
"My mom applauds me when I go take a shit."
"Well, that's great."
"So, I come from a place of it's too much.",,,,
"That's a good Jewish mother you have there."
"GJM."
"There you go."
TYSO goblin checking in

Fucking love your energy i am so glad I found you from watching bobby lee!
I love this interview! Have you ever seen or talked about the Netflix show Atypical? I enjoy it very much and would love to hear your opinion on it. Thanks! 💜
Joe has big ASMR energy
Hope the show gets picked up! Do pilots get released even if the show doesn't get made?
Rick this might sound weird but I love the way you cry on the podcast, it's something you don't often see. It's the way a man should cry. You don't try to hide it, you accept it, and you continue through it. It was great on the episode with your ex-girlfriend and it was great here when talking about acceptance.
Great episode!
Gorgeous human, loving the discussion and hearing about Joes life.
what do you guys think this is the bill burr podcast or something, you don't take digs at the GLASS, you take your SHOES OFF, you SUBSCRIBE, and you REPLENISH. -scoop do boppers!

Commenting for the Algos #bangbang
Here at the end of October, 10 months later with the pandy. Do we know if this On The Spectrum show is being greenlit?
The jocks and the hard guys.
Pretty sure “Mickey Blue Eyes” is the movie Joe’s talking about, although neither Pacino nor Depp is in it…
Defiantly a glassman bopper😅😬
Great
When do we find out if the show got picked up or not?
The al Pacino movie is Serpico
Digging the intros. Gives me a better taste of your style

fuck yea scoot doo!
Okay, this idea is sort of from far out of left field, and I understand it may be easier for you to have guests that you have some connection with outside the podcast... but I just thought what could be a really interesting guest would be Chris Fleming.
For some reason Joe reminds me of Bobby Darin...
Rick alternates between jumping between ideas, and being lazer-lock focused on people's words. He also can be very literal at times, and misses interpretations. Two very autistic traits.
Love ya dude!
Hey Rick, love the podcast. Still haven't heard back about the racist joke I'm shopping around. To be honest, I can really only see you doing it, but the amount of money Seinfeld is offering is already pretty absurd. Hit me up big man. #boppedonmyboysgoblintothispodforhours.
hahahaaahahaha great etiquette.
He basically stole the show in Airheads, delivered the best lines
Crazy af Ik the school😭
This is gonna be a long poop,
Shane Schantz quit bragging.
I'm keeping my shoes on for this one, its chilly, deal with it.
What kind of sweats are those?
koravable P Diddy’s pants girl made them for me for $2k.
I thought Joe Mantenga was a Quarterback.
Fuckin hell, how does Joey Zasa only get 15k views in 2 years...
