But this is a really personal video, and it took a lot out of me to actually record.. But this is something I've always wanted to talk about.
I won't say that I am the most confident, but in this journey I have reached a better place in accepting who I am.

Im dusky too, when I was in my high school my teacher rejected me from a dance , even though I danced well, just because I was dark.. It hurted me so badly. But thanks my family , they always help me come out of all such things and make me more confident and helps to love myself for who I am..

when the girl with darkest skin in family has acne its even worse. everyone tries to break your confidence. I remember an incident it was a family function I was wearing a golden frock my aunt said "your frock is beautiful" then she said to my mother "she looks darker in this color". another aunt was asking everyone if they have eaten anything.when my turn came she said "I know you have eaten it is showing on your face".I had pimples on my face at that time. I was about to cry but didn't because there were many people there.I was only 9 yes old at that time.I really don't understand how a relative / family member can say such things to a child ? but now I know the reason why they said those things.they were just trying to feel supery by making someone else feel inferior. the aunt who said I was looking darker actually has darker skin than me,and the aunt who commented on my pimples was having more pimples than me.they were just trying to divert attention towards me.they were not confident in their skin and that's why they were seeing imperfections in others.we must be happy in our own skin and should not try to make anyone feel bad about their appearance. no one wants to look bad/ugly.if someone has some acne or darker skintone its not their fault.don't make them feel guilty.everyone has the right to be happy regardless of how they look.
I absolutely agree! Physical appearance should never define your happiness! And I truly believe that when you glow from the inside is when you are your happiest and also look your best!
So don't focus on these comments! Focus on yourself and making yourself happy :)

Yeah even I faced it, I was dark and having acne, people / relatives used to comment about the colour and acne, making my life worse. I rushed to doctor next day the only thing i can was to avoid acne but not my complexion I love my skin colour.
And things are most worst when you are dark short fat and plus physically disable the questions that summarise my childhood were why your eye are closed? You can't see properly na ???oh poor girl what will happen to you in future??who will marry you ?and why are you dark when your whole family are fair??? But i am glad at present I am a happy person 😍
Dark skin is seen as inferior.... Becoz of our colonial past..... It will take another 1000 years to get over this......

NEHA entire bollywood is full of DUSKY actresses two of the most successful deepika and priyanka have dusky complexion shilpa shetty , sushmita sen , tanushree dutta , bipasha basu , kon kon ... list goes on and on. The idea that people prefer to watch only fair skin women on screen is complete BS .... Attractive people have great facial symmetry it has nothing to do with skin colour. It doesn't matter if you're a kashmiri or a malyali facial symmetry defines your beauty. You've an amazing face great cheek bones round chin you look amazing . I think i have a crush on you binge watching all your videos for past 10 days lmfao .

No matter what amount of confidence I've ever put up to bend with people, I still face those mean names and jokes about my skin. I am 13 now ...and all these fair girls from my grade are getting into relationships, finding soulmates and all that shit and each time they see me around they wld just call out to me like hey blackie wtsupp... Growing up in India is a curse for every girl like me no matter how u accept yourself its never gonna work. All my relatives just find ways to taunt me...especially like ur mom n dad are fair..did u just fall away from the sun?...etc..bla...bla... The more I try to ignore that fact the more it haunts me. I havr lost faith in God for all that he has put me through. Every alternate night I just sit up recalling the way I am teased at school..... I feel so scared of even having an ambition in life aftet watching what a dark skinned tr. went through..although she was really kind. Being dark to me has been a curse n if I continue my stay in India is gonna be ..landing me in an asylum.
Don't let it get to you!! This is not worth it at all!!
And what matters is who you are on the inside!
All these physical attributes will blow over, and soon you will realise that life is worth SO much more.
Always remember that this life is yours - create it the way you want. Don't let random people dictate it!
Push yourself, work hard and focus on the important stuff.
People will soon see you rise and everything else will fade :)

i have had faced the same situation a multiple times during my school days. it did lower my self confidence to an extent. what really saddens me is that beauty even today is associated with "being a light skinned'' . even today our bollywood movies have all the fair actresses playing the lead roles. ads consist of the light skinned people. i hope some day india progresses with a progressive mind set over all.

Your story is so relatable to me specifically that crush part ! I also had a crush when i was in high school and when he got to know about it he literally made fun of me in front my friends n his friends stating how ugly and dark skinned i was ! That completely shattered me i used to hate myself so much but yeah now after almost 6 years i can proudly say that I've learned to love myself may be not completely but day by day I'm trying and learning to accept myself the way I'm my skin colour and everything about me .

I agree with so many points that u made in this video! I'm also guilty of using fairness creams for a few years coz few relatives kept calling me dark. It took a while for me to realise that I should be comfortable in my skin!

Hey, I can totally relate to what you are saying, In my school, they used to neevr let me play angel during the christmas plays, coz i was dark. It still huants me. U are such an inspiration as i move towards self acceptance! Keep up the great work!

I was dark skinned till my 15-16 yrs and i hv faced all this, my brothr and sister were fair n i was the only one who had dark complexion in the family and if guest used to visit our place they used to ask my parents who i was, n my parents used to tell them dat she is our eldest daughter and still they used to say things like she doesnt matches your family etc and aunties used to advice my mom to apply kitchen remedies n all to fair out my skin,they even said who will marry her and all. i wasnt allowed to play outside in sun😢 i faced a lot of drama,.. Those popular group of girls used to bully me at school.. And afterwards my 10th vacation my skintone kept changing it, my skin got lighter and now i hv those aunties who gossip how my skin tone changed so ppl are never satisfied they have problems either way. Every one is beautifull in thr own way.......

I don't like taking pictures with anyone... Even with my best friend... Because after they take the photo they will look at it they couldn't put it on social media because I'll obviously be looking ugly and they don't want to hurt me... So for them I tried to get away from being in their frame so that they could take a good picture which they can put up on some where ...
I feel so unlucky but then I'll think about other discriminated people and feels thankful that at least I have everything else...

Wow dat was the best talk I was searching for.I don't biliv just our country moves ahead in making oneself biliv the fact "dark mathematically equals to being ugly".I wish if atleast the teach of what beauty means is given the correct way to our future tomorrow.Seriously I was amazed at various situations when kids came to me and was throwing all those tags @me....what have you applied on your face,why are you black,and the most insulting one ...."go away you look ugly".Oh my god how is it possible even the worst thoughts are being fed into them.Its difficult to gain that respect which fair ones get so easily .
