The worst part is how these bollywood actors who some people actually admire support these kind of things instead of taking some serious action against them like how can they not see how traumatizing can it be for those beautiful girls who get insecure and feel ugly being dark skinned i've faced so many comments about my features being attractive and that i can use this and that and fix my skin tone and the worse part is that your own family and relatives are the one bashing you

Years of colonialism has led to this, Caribbean's and Africans can identify from Imperialist rule. It's sad because, people find bleaching as a solution, when in hindsight it is the problem. It's like staying you "won't" have any problems after bleaching. I've seen bleaching creams in markets ( btw I'm Ghanaian)

Whatever part of the world we are in we have media telling us that whatever trait we have is not good enough and that they have a product or procedure to make us more desirable. I hope people realize that this video focuses solely on the North Indian perspective, For thousands of years dark skin in the south was seen as beautiful and an indicator of fertility and women hood. It wasn't until the final conquering of the South by the Portuguese and Brits that the colonizer mindset to love white skin over their own was introduced and heavily reinforced. Even now however the skin lightening obsession is far more a northern problem then in the south where the sales of skin lightening cream for men and women are nowhere near as high as in the North. This has to do with the fact southerners weren't as exposed to Conquerors like the Mughals or Persians so they never had an inferiority complex like Northerners had toward light skin which was heavily reinforced during colonialism

I’m an American living in India and I cannot stress how impractical very fair skin is (especially in places where there is a good amount of heat and sunlight, America included). I can’t be in the sun more than 15 mins without getting a massive sunburn, I have to cover up and wear sunscreen EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Fair skin wrinkles more quickly, acne/imperfections are far more evident on fair skin, and rates of skin cancer are higher in those who have more fair/ sun burn prone skin. I'm already healthy. I'm fine. I burn very easily in the sun, so I don't spend a long time in it, because I know I would be more susceptible to skin damage. Like Kali who is very dark skinned is worshipped. Vishnu is dark skinned and that's many of his reincarnations are also dark skinned like Ram or Krishna. Literally the meaning of 'Krishna' is black in Sanskrit. On the other hand Raavana is fair skinned.

@HausOfCortez The effects of slavery are felt throughout the entire world. Of course there are other factors though. Rihanna is lying, I can tell you that much. Light skin is a huge thing in the Caribbean. There is a bleaching epidemic there. Sure people will day things about your skin color no matter where you are and no matter what your complexion but for her to say that she was picked on is a stretch. Furthermore, Rihanna was never, ever very light skinned. She is the complexion she is now, due to excessive bleaching. Watch her past videos and interviews and you will see the huge difference in her skin color. Skin bleaching is a pandemic phenomenon. The only thing that can change the global perception of a person's worth being tied to their skin color is if we " emancipate ourselves from mental slavery.

The fair skin are Aryans who came to India from the North and basically more than 50% of Indians are brown or dark skinned . The Hindu God,s are Dark so whats the big deal? Are your 5 fingers the same? What a disgrace that we have Indian celebrities endorsing skin lightening creams. Rubbish ! But at the same time we have lots of light skinned people who are exposed and are not racist. We need to educate everyone especially the younger generation. I have faced Racism,Colorism and Ethnic discrimination , i was born in Sri Lanka a Tamil minority i understand this subject very well. I just don't think so that " India has a long way to go to end it's obsession with fair skin" because India doesn't even acknowledge this as a matter of concern. I'm dark skinned too and I just feel that this prejudice of dark skinned-light skinned has found its way to reasoning , i.e. , if you're unable to do something, it's because you're dark, or if u don't have anyone in your life it's probably because you have more melanin inside you than more of " good personality". I see fair people calling other dark skinned people names, unapologetically. They don't mind if u tell them that they are 'racist', they will admit it themselves blatantly. India is not even close to a struggle. It needs a personality makeover. India needs to know that dark people's skin don't have mud clogged inside their pores.

Dark skin is beautiful..it is the gold of the sun. Skin kissed by the Sun is kissed by God. It does not age as poorly as fair skin. All skin tones are equally beautiful. I don't know why one would risk skin cancer for these bleaching creams.

Now you're being racist to white saying that it ages poorly how rude I'm offended. Every skin colour is beautiful and unique why don't you understand??🤬🤬 if someone would have brown then everyone should have started mocking him/her but you said white no body will say anything now.

Hindu scriptures never associated good qualities with fair skin and bad with dark skin.
Example: godess Kali, draupadi and Lord Krishna who were dark but have good virtues
    So don't spread the untruth.

But I'm changing it. We millennials will be the movement to debunk the very thought of Categorizing people based on their color!
