The removal of annotations was what really made me realize that CZcams doesn’t care about the users anymore.

Why did they remove anotations?
@@TheAcer176 because they didn’t work on mobile. So instead of tweaking them and integrating them into the mobile version, they just completely scrapped them.
The biggest thing I know of that was hurt by this, was Chuggaaconroy’s Luigi Galaxy Let’s Play. He had a video that had a full map of the Observatory, and you could click on each Dome or each individual star. Clicking would then take you to the right episode with the appropriate time stamp. Iirc he also did this with Mario 64 DS, too. And it was all completely obsoleted just like that.

@@HaxTheCharizard It's not! You can unlock Han Solo after finding 5 characters in The Original Adventures. One of which is 3CP0! It blew my mind to learn this as a child, along with a bunch of stuff from OG animal crossing revolving golden tools and money trees!

It’s amazing how consistent he’s been for all that time, too.
Its incredible to see just how energetic and full of life he is to this day, definitely one of my favorites

A 100% playthrough is about 230 to 400 hours. So it'll be a few episodes lol

I also miss when CZcams channels were a LOT more personalized. Back in 2010 when I had started my show, I used to update the background art with all the new characters that got added on both sides of the banner. As you say Alax, it stopped being about the creator and became more centered on the content.
My hopes of it going back to how it was are slim, but we can hope!
Now CZcams is trying its best to be a replacement for television. They're already similar in some regards. Littering content with ads, no content feedback, trash pumped out for no reason...
And people back in the radio days were saying radio ads are obnoxious and nobody wants to hear them (they were right about ads being terrible)

Well now that you say it, I do remember the youtube I watched in 2012 being a hell of a lot different from youtube now, Watching dragon ball z like 20 times a year and looking at bakugan episodes part 1/3, good times. Can't forget the AMV's of dragon ball too.

I think this is really a greater issue. I mean even dating apps are like this. Youd think you want to know the person for dating of all things, but no most profiles on dating apps are just some instagram pictures with a bio saying "I like food"
I mean to be fair, there's probably some people out there with no standards who are like "Hey I like food too!" and then next thing you know, they put themselves into an unfulfilling marriage.
I kind of miss when CZcams was about average people making stupid videos, rater than stupid people making average videos.

I remember back in the old days of youtube i wasnt mentally broken with crippling depression, but i did have crippling social anxiety.
I feel like CZcams is only made for advertisers at this point. Not for the creators and not for the people who actually watch stuff on it. The only person youtube is of an convenience for now is advertisers.

If monetization never existed then CZcams wouldn't be the way it is right now
It probably wouldn't exist today without it tbh, as the site gets more popular, it becomes more and more expensive to keep it running, so you kinda need to get money from somewhere.
@@repoyo8685 Easy way to solve the problem? Allow people to pick whether to enable ads on their videos or not. Regardless, videos will be monetized but you have to have a special subscription to turn off video ads. Easy! (I'm talking about from the uploaders perspective. They'll have to pay for like a pro subscription to disable video ads but all videos can be monetized. This'll encourage people to spend money to turn off video ads for their viewers and it's a win/win for both CZcams and advertisers.)
@@Hauntaku I think I get where you're coming from, but no, I think you're underestimating the amount of money that advertising makes, if something like this was an option, content creators would have to pay a lot of money to make up for the amount of money CZcams would be losing, and even then it'd still probably would cost them money in the long run, so it'd be a lose/lose situation.
Generally, if a solution to a big problem seems so easy you can quickly think of it on the spot, it's probably because it doesn't solve the problem at all.

Smosh was named after a time when the creators misheard "mosh pit" as "smosh pit" and then named the website he made after it, which was followed by a CZcams channel of the same name three years later.
Never stop with the trips down nostalgia avenue Alex, They always fill me with the brain chemicals that course positive emotions that give me a upgraded mood.
The most nostalgic phrase from CZcams to me will forever be "How to be Ninja is a DVD 4 U!"
I remember one video of yours appearing into my recommendation feed, "Year 1 Celebration" or something to that effect, I watched it and laughed my ass off. It was a clipshow of stuff from Retro Specks and early Know Your Moves. I've been subscribed loyally ever since. CZcams may have changed, but your quality has never changed, it's always been great. Always good to see Canadian CZcamsrs grow as big as you have. It's been a real journey.
I used to friend people over subbing and Id talk to a good number of people and then they just got rid of it all. Lost alot of content and friends then. I was so upset I stopped going on youtube for months.
Those YTP sections were great. I still wonder what Mama Luigi's persona is like?

I really do miss when youtube was more of a community. I had so many friends on here as a kid! the site has some great stuff and some great people on it now, but it's completely unrecognizable form how it used to be.

I still miss the original design of the website and, you know, full channel banners and stuff, and generally more customization. As well as a lot of the different features that used to be there. Some of them were a bit unnecessary, but most of them were really nice.
A lot of consumer friendly features are just gone, for basically no reason.
The name Google+ reminds me of some dark memories

I once had a chance to work for Google, but when I heard about their working culture, I felt like I'd feel better being somewhere I know I wouldn't be ... ABSORBED.

For someone who has been on YT for about 14 years as well, this was a very well put together trip down memory lane and a good design review. I actually made a lot of online friends on this platform, some of which I'm still in touch with. So looking at YT today and realizing how much it has changed makes me sad. How much of its former personality has been stripped away little by little, post Google's purchase. And speaking of channel designs, I remember, I was SO proud of my design back in the day. If I look at it today in wayback machine, I can't help but smile at my past self. Everything was just so light hearted.

Being born the same year that CZcams was created, I still kinda remembered the old mobile interface and logo. That’s how I ‘played’ brawl. Since my parents never let me get when I was younger.
Even though I grew up in the early 2010s, I still feel and understand the digression that people feel from the Website itself whenever they make big mistakes and ignorant decisions. But, there's something oddly wholesome about how no matter bad things get, we; as a community will always find a way to make it through and thrive once more. And that, is worth something. :)
Early 2000's youtube was such a different experience than it is now. I remember I being a wee little lad and looking for a walkthrough of Ocarina of Time and happening upon videos of the boss fights (some of which I hadn't gotten to on my own playthrough) and just being floored that a website would let you do that. I also really miss the channel customization :'(
I wish youtube would have NSFW ads play on demonetized videos rather than not have the creators get monetized at all.

My whole life on the internet has always been revolved around the early days of CZcams, I’m talking 2009-2013. I have spent most of my childhood on CZcams tutorials for Lego and even just old school 3D animation and to see much personality of peoples content, video editing, and even just the nostalgic feel some videos give just makes me wish I could go back and start CZcams during the golden age.
Great video, I forgot about a lot of the old CZcams functions like messages. Mario saying "Dia" with the health increase was a nice touch haha

I too have been on this platform for a long time, and I just gotta agree, this place has changed hard. I can tell you confidently that not only does it feel like it's based around the content not the creator, that's exactly it, especially considering a literal thing that it rewards channels keeping people on the platform from external places, not even mentioning how much you have to kick and scream on Twitter or whatever else you have to get CZcams to acknowledge their mistakes like deleting channels or wrongfully striking videos. Among other things, yes it's about the content, regardless I still plan on making my way into CZcams actually making good on all the hours watched.

I’m late to this video, sorry about that, but man this video takes me back so much... you’ve earned even more of my respect since you started off making YTP’s. I feel you managed to capture a lot of our... I guess “boomer” opinions on how YT has progressed over the years, because yeah YT back then was so much about the creator and expressing your creativity. Nowadays it’s become more so a business/service rather than a place where a person with a camera and an idea can express themselves. I’m not saying it was better, because there were SO MANY problems back then, but I feel so much of what made YT, and the Internet as a whole, so incredible is you were able to expose yourself to the world and find people you connected with, both as a creator and as a viewer. I speak truthfully when I say I was able to survive my younger years by living vicariously through channels like PBG, Pewdiepie, Completionist, Skydoesminecraft, and many more. Maybe it’s because I’ve grown older or most of the channels I grew up with quit, but I don’t feel that connection anymore. My heart always sinks a little bit whenever I see what corporations have done to change how we communicate and interact on the internet, because despite how much we interact online, we are not getting any happier as a whole. This isn’t the video to comment on that subject, but it’s a point that so many people are blind to and this video reminded me of it. Anyway thank you Alex for making this wonderful video, and I hope you have a great day!
P.S Luigi as a Phantom Thief would just be Mr. L. It’s basically his spirit of rebellion on full display, and it’s so cathartic.
