- The level recommendation algorithm works differently in Super Mario Maker 2. In Super Mario Maker 1 each level that got uploaded had a chance to appear in the 100 Super Mario Maker challenge. In Super Mario Maker 2, this is no longer the case. Because of this it is very likely that a new Super Mario Maker 2 level gets not a single play, if it is just uploaded. In this video we are going to discuss what we can do to actually ensure that our levels get played, and we will discuss what nintendo could do in general to improve the current situation.

What I think would work is to add a “random” difficulty to endless mode where levels with less than 10 plays are used

Mario got a bellyache that doesn't seem to stop. You are the only one who can solve the problem by going inside of it and destroying the cause.
This was my second course so it's not really long or challenging, but it is a fun little course that you can forget after playing it

How to get lots of plays in your levels:
1- Make a 20 second speedrun level where you just hold right and jump occasionally.
2- Put some Japanese symbols somewhere in the title or description.

It took me three months to make this super world and is a excellent world full of original levels with secrets, friends, bonuses, and bosses of power: Lemmy, Iggy, Morton, Larry, Ludwig, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Roy, a not so good remake of Reznor, Wendy, Bowser, Dry Bowser, Bonus Boss Bowser Jr., and last but not least Dry Bowser Jr. With 2 underwater levels, 40 levels of fun you can't go wrong with super coltplay! world. The trailer for the world will be out on my YT channel soon. may be hard to find but look up Coltplay with Smm2 next to it

This is a very long and challenging slime level. Here's a tip for near the end: At the Pokey, wait for him to begin sinking into the slime then spin-jump onto his head into a max-jump to get up to the ledge. If this seems too tough for ya, you can damage boost through him and hit the hidden block to the right instead (if you have a power-up.) Thanks and have fun!

Fire Temple

This is a level loosely based on the Fire Temple from Ocarina of time. There are some tricky puzzles, tight sections and tough boss battles.
Let me know what you think and leave your own level code and I will play it.
Here are some hints if you need help-
1st puzzle- Use the Thwomp to activate the P-switch then jump through the blocks before they become solid.
Speedrun section- Run and slash your sword at the blue indicators to destroy the POW blocks.
Boss- You can use the shield to block fireballs.

What about making a system where if you want one of your levels to be posted into the new section you need to play 5 of the levels in the new section. This way people play your level so that they can post their own and vice versa.
Or they can add a bonus level in the 100 challenge so that if you lose you dont lose a life but if you win you gain 5 that way we can star the good ones
I actually have encountered a level in Endless that had no likes when I played it, so I'm not entirely sure what the criteria are.
Something else that I've found is that everyone sees the same list in New Courses, which is one of the reasons it's so clogged. What this means is that by the time you finish a level, a dozen or more other players have also played it. My experience with this was when my level had finally surfaced in the queue, it got a huge burst of plays, which resulted in at least one of the players checking out my other unplayed level, which in turn put it into the Endless pool. The second level still has not reached the number of plays of that initial burst. In this case, patience really paid off.
What I think Nintendo should do is create a "Mystery Endless" mode. It would be exactly the same as any other Endless mode, but it only serves you levels with zero plays. This would be far more efficient than the current system and very easy for them to implement.

I have four levels so far. When I upload more, I’ll put their ID’s in here, too.
M06-NP9-FHF- The first level I made. It’s OK, I guess. It’s a New Soup snow theme level with swinging claws and propeller mushrooms.
F18-X79-MQF- A New Soup castle level (based off the tower levels in NSMBU). It’s themed around Chain Chomps.
RVD-Y7R-DDF- Probably my favorite level I’ve made so far. It’s a 90 second speedrun in an SMB3 castle.
Y7R-876-RYF- This is the opposite end of the spectrum. I wanted to make a super cursed level so I decided to make a 1-1 remake that’s even worse than the others that have been made so far. It starts out semi-normal then quickly devolves into really long jumps and incredibly tight P-switch runs. It’s not even remotely based on 1-1 at some points.
All of these levels will feature in my upcoming Super World (that will take an extremely long time to make).
New levels:
HQB-BDG-D0H: My first themed level. It’s pretty dang hard.
FPD-9WC-FSG- Another castle level. I themed it around P-switch runs (Run for It in NSMBU is one of my favorite official levels). I’d imagine it would be tough to figure out. Some of the intended strats are intentionally made to look like cheese, but as far as I know, there is no true cheese in the level.
VCQ-27M-RQF: Tight and annoying wall jumping stage. I love it because of how stupid it is and how accurate the name is, but odds are most other people will hate it.
569-P65-2XG: Abuses the low-gravity mechanic in the night sky theme to make you climb up walls. Hope you've got a good index finger!
VMB-X70-C5G- A traditional NSMBU level... or is it?

2 - C4Q-QCC-LKG Really hard 1 screen challenge (it's all about timing your jump, is all, then its easy).
3 - L6W-HXG-70G Speed Rush level, that's easy once you know what to do (which most players should), but some don't so, they make it more difficult than it needs to be.
4 - GBN-QD5-LNF Easy Bridge level, with a bonus mystery door.
5 - NR6-CQ2-CTG A fun level I made for a friend, but you can check it out too.
I have more levels, but some need to be tweaked. But feel free to play any, if you'd like. I'll try to go up and down this list to play as many as I can as well. Thanks in advance.

My idea is a cosmetic thing like a shiny effect for players who have more first clears then levels uploaded. I think that could work. Or that the first level in endless runs is an uncleared level. So u cant get one in a good run, but u got one at start. Idk, it could work.
Really insightful video by the way. It honestly kind of shocked me when I realized you have less than a million subs. Your content is consistently high quality and performs well. With SMM2 finally released, the Mario Maker community's size has surely multiplied, and I think you really deserve to see that reflected on your channel.
To be fair, one of the 10 medals you can get is for first clears. And since you said that small creators may be grateful and check out our levels, I think this is a great way to not only get first clear medals, but also have others play our levels and potentially earn Maker medals!

The most consistent and fair way in my opinion, is to add a point system. You obviously can build as many level as you want, but to upload them public you have to play 2-3 new levels to upload a new one. So you stop the spamming of "not so good" levels too. Also ppl learn maybe from other what a good level looks like, or new ideas and stuff. Would probably solve it, and would only be fair.

It's really awesome that you are doing this ceave. I have a friend that put so much effort into his first level and he still only got a few plays. For the People that are interested: It's called "Mario and the beanstalk" (ID: MSX-1LB-TTF). The overall story is that a beanstalk has been growing in the mushroom kingdom and mario goes to investigate it. The main part is a vertical upward scrolling part with many differen challenges like falling platforms, vine jumps and on off blocks. The design is well-made and he put a lot of effort into designing the beanstalk itself.

4 t2 sorry it took so long but I finally got around to playing your level and it was fun! it was a nice challenge and I’ve always found koopa jumps to be really cool. One thing I’d reccomend though is stacking the koopas on munchers on clouds so they don’t move as much (unfortunately they still move a little), as that seemed to kill me a lot and it didn’t quite feel fair. But still, great level!

Nintendo Crushing Hopes And Dreams of 6 year old since 2015
Personally, I really don't like that every stage that I give a "Like" to is now considered a favorite of mine when that isn't always the case. Sometimes I just want to encourage a new creator or an interesting level idea with some positive reinforcement, but that doesn't necessarily mean that their recreation of world 1-1" or their "My first level" stage is one I plan to replay over and over. Honestly I with they gave us "Boo, Like and Star" as options.
I wish they'd just let us favorite certain levels

Jokes aside the community fairly nice. I think part of it is that most of the community consists of either children before hitting their teens and family friendly adults.
It's been great so far, others are supportive in streams and level "liking" in general. The level requests in this video alone have been a prime example of that, even if some may not be our flavor of level, it's always good to play it, and leave good feedback!

I feel like there should be an unplayed section to get the unplayed courses their first plays.
Blananas2 That would be a nice feature but it should be like under 100 plays since after just 1 play it would disappear and would never appear again most likely
I would like that if you played in the new queue your own levels would get higher priority on the queue, this way if you want your level to be seen you can play new levels. this would solve the problem in many ways, because it's much easier to play a level than make a level
I'm not sure whether this algorithm has changed in the meantime, but I don't think this is accurate anymore. If I look at a video of GPB or aurateur, there is a decent amount of levels that end with "first clear" during a super-expert run. Not sure how that can be explained by this explanation of the algorithm.

One interesting way the Twisters are used in the course is by having them interact with seesaws so the player can reach alternate paths and secret areas. The main recurring enemies here are Piranha Plants and Goombrats.

Xavier Nelson I tried both of your courses and I really enjoyed them, overall they aren’t bad and even if they might need some decorations I still liked them a lot. Also to answer your question I really don't know lol my music, traditional and 1 speedrun levels just get popular naturally probably because a lot of people love playing easy and visually interesting courses. As for more of my harder stages well i promote them here under this video and by going to live streamers that play viewer levels so that more people play my courses. It all just kinda happened one day but that is probably the reason I get lots of plays and likes, see what people love on the popular tab or just keep promoting your courses here or in live streams just remember to be nice when you promote courses and that's pretty much it ha.
I wish you can see replays of who played your course and see how they did.
Best they have is showing you where players die.
