- I decided it was time to upgrade my old wallet and take it to the next level. In this video I show my process of how to make a western style tooled leather wallet and document the process from start to finish. From cutting out the leather parts for the wallet, to the leather tooling, dying and finishing. I hope you enjoy this leather craft video on how to make a tooled leather wallet.

My dad, who has been with the Lord for three years now, worked with leather. He was an orthotist/prosthetist, so he made leg braces and artificial limbs, and his leatherwork was beautiful. When he got older, he also started making Bible covers and journal covers. You can't go to his church on a weekend and not see someone with one of those covers. I remember growing up with all the smells -- contact cement and just the leather itself. I love that smell. Thanks for the reminder, and thanks for letting us watch you work. So cool.

Very nice! A lot of mallet hits with that border design and stitching. Stealing your idea for holding the pockets for edge burnishing!
Of all the leather wallet making videos, this has to be the most intensive. I honestly couldn't see myself spending that much time in making a wallet. The results are however outstanding, I am truly impressed. Some day I will reach your level, but it will be somewhere in the deep future. Great work.

Is that something commercially available or did you design it yourself? If it is available, I'd like information on who produces them and/or a dealer for them. Thanks!
Thank you so much. It is a design I made myself in a cad program. I just printed it out and transferred it onto cereal box cardboard.

What a clever idea (clamping pockets between wood to burnish the edges)! Great looking wallet. I need to start doing more tooling. I fell into the rut of just producing solid wallets.

I will not insult this man by saying he has skills, or he is truly a craftsman, he already knows that. I will say this as I’m sure many others would say. Gretsch Guitars used to make a model called the “Roundup” way back in the 1950’s when there was still a huge western vibe prevalent in popular culture. It was a unique instrument because it had actual leather trim with that western motif.
