it's 3 am and i want to learn leathercraft
Literally saw this at 3:01 am, glad I'm not the only one lol
Oh my, me to🤗
5:13...but this isn‘t a competition
Hahaha ! same here ! I realize it's 6:00 now and I'm still there with AZERTY written in reverse on my forehead lol...
Usually, creative juices kick in after the whole world around you go to sleep.
Two years ago I was curious about how leather journals and wallets were made so I watched this video, went to a tool exchange and I got an awl, 5 prong punch, and two edge beveler’s. Somehow with those tools, a box cutter, needles and very thick thread and some leather from my old couch I made the worst looking pocket. After watching little king goods videos, buying templates, buying tools and going to workshops at Leffler Leather in Australia two years later, I am a 14 year old boy with a dream to start my own leather working shop and teach what I have learnt. And that dream was all thanks to you so little king good thank you for helping me throughout my journey.
Such an inspiring story Jack! Wish you all the best with your leather journey 🤙🏼
I have to study for my finals but i guess I’m dropping out to start leathercraftig
I can’t thank you enough. I’ve just been gifted my great-great grandfather’s entire collection of leather tools and materials and I cannot let this tradition die. Nobody else knows how to use them and I want to honor his craft by learning for myself.
Did I watch this video with the same concentration and intensity I give to studying for an important exam?
Yes.
Do I have plans to craft leather?
No.
Thank you YT recommendations. And thank you creator for this very informative video.
Such unselfish dude! My hat off to you! This world still got generous people...and you are amongst them for sure! 🙏🙏🙏
Hey can you do a video for beginners in sourcing leather and maybe discuss the types of leather you can use. What’s good/bad?
Great channel. Thanks heaps.
If you want a good supply of inexpensive leather to practice and learn with, re-purpose old jackets and other leather clothing from thrift shops, and keep an eye out for abandoned leather furniture that you can harvest.
@@RocketDragons Where I am currently (Germany) that kind of stuff still sells at such a mark-up that it's far far more expensive than just buying leather, like a leather jacket at a thriftstore might still be around $100.
Source it straight from old farmers for the cheapest option.
Mark Langridge that’s a good idea for me! Thanks
@@RocketDragons Mark, thats a great idea but is the leather on furniture and/or jackets the same thickness? Ive never worn a leather jacket with leather as thick as people typically are using in all these wallet/bag videos I have been watching. I ask because yes, it would be a cheap source of leather but will practicing on thinner leather be any use?
It started with one video, then I realized I had watched all of them, now I'm waiting on my tools to arrive. Seriously the most costly CZcams video I have ever watched, but I could not be more excited to start down this new journey of leathercraft. Thanks for making things make sense, taking the time to film with beautiful professionalism, and inspiring people to try for themselves something you obviously love so much.
how has your skill been coming along?
we need to know
we need to knoww
We need to know
gotta update the people my man
Much appreciated for your efforts and generous mindset of sharing that kind of content. You and your outputs are my inspiration. Wish you have a better life with people and things that you love ❤️
Bro! you should put together a kit and sell it. Ive been really interested in learning leather works.
Fil W Media no you!
@@overtonesnteatime198 huh?
I agree.
And what does he gain from this? If you want something, YOU, and only YOU should go get it. It is no one else’s job to do that for you. Sure it would be nice of home to take a very long time to plan and then put up a kit to then sell to you but even if charges double the original price, it is still a less and a waste of his precious time and therefore, a waste of money.
@@AlexanderMason1 that’s if you’re assuming that he only sells that kit to one person. Before trying to bash someone on a CZcams comment section try to think outside the box.
Just by watching your video l have to pause and write something to honor you. Usually people won't disclose their knowledge and share them to the other. You are such a great person that share everything you know about to everyone. Thanks and God bless you!
Thank you. Its always great to see what tools a great craftsman uses in his trade. I made a cover for a sketch pad for a friend of mine using tools that I had, but now knowing what I really need I will be able to produce a better item next time.
hello from Colorado. I took leather in high school and loved it, fast forward to now, I'm a retired Military man that loves to do things by hand. I came across your videos by accident and I can't tell you how much I appreciate them because I think it's a dying art. I recently bought some basic tools and a bagfull of leather, different shades, so I'm hoping to get started, slowly of course it's been like 30 years.
I started making leather goods the last 3 weeks and its because of the video that Peter Mckinnon made of you over the summer. I love your stuff and you inspired me to start doing wallets for now and I want to eventually get into bags etc... Thanks!!! Toronto in the house!!
I am here because PETER MCKINNON did his B roll and I practically ran here virtually.I never caught who was behind his minimalist wallet and what’s in his pocket video. Now I know! I dabbled in leathercraft and LOVE everything about it very satisfying. I wanted to make my own purses and book covers for a long time. I only do jewelry with it. But I could never get proper tools or machine to sew with it. YOUR STUDIO is a dream. I love the setup, your stations and how organized you are. Dream studio congrats!
AHhh yeahh. Sweet sweet leather crafting. It's about time man. Needed this vid yesterday haha, purchased my first set of tools. Made a key chain, it looks terrible.
van Rensburg same, I made a key fob cover though lol
Cheers to you! Welcome to the craft!
mine looked like total sh!t also lol
I made a quiver as the first thi g ever and I made it out of blue and pink suede. It's very floppy and I used it at an archery shoot. It's quite terrible. I think my uncle (the family leatherworker) got tired of looking at it because he gave me one of the old ones he had hahaha

EVERYONE :GOTTA START WITH “TERRIBLE & 💩 & ____ ”, to GET TO GOOD -AWESOME !
🤗👍🏾😂😅🧕🏾/🧓🏾, take it from this OLE Lady!
WOW! FINALLY the perfect video for starter tools ALL in one place! I’ve been making small leather craft projects for my personal use for nearly a year now yet had no idea what specific tools I needed to purchase for the different steps I wanted to apply to refine my pieces. Thank you so much for the video!
What about a bingo dabber as an edge marker?
someone should make a video like this in every field.
Somehow you knew I am wanting to dabble in leathercrafting and needed this in my life. Thank you! Great video
This video is perfectly timed because I've just started exploring the tools required for leathercrafting. Thanks!
Thank you for the great list of parts in the description. That is very helpful, and I know how long it takes to put that together. I really appreciate the time you put in to do that. You make beautiful things and have inspired me to try my hand at making things out of leather, and with this video and list you help make it easier. Keep it up.
I have a machine as well but love handstitching on occasion. It’s very relaxing to be honest. Almost meditative.
I can definitely get down with a guy who starts a list of tools with a cup of coffee! I couldn't imagine starting with out it! Love this video and appreciate the attention to detail! Quality stuff! Definitely going to bookmark this!
Cant explain how good and helpful this video is. Love the finishing on your products. Keep up the good work!
Man, how I like your videos! Highly appreciate the effort you put in them. And I like your personality - the way you explain and consider people on a budget. That is a very kind attitude🥳
Thanks for making the vid! Totally helps knowing wtf some tools do(just bout some tools last night so im trying to learn a bit more about them). Look forward to seeing more and learning more from ya!
Absolutely love seeing how much your CZcams and business exploded practically over night.
Thanks for uploading this, I had been interested in leather crafting as a hobby for a while and you have inspired me to finally go through with it
I’ve just started to work with leather and this video was priceless. Thank you
I enjoy the step by step process you go through. It's therapeutic to watching your videos. Trust me!
Wow this couldn’t have dropped at a better time in my life
Same, I just discovered this channel and it couldn’t come at a better time
You're seriously tempting me to try some leather making. Fab video. Thank you 👌🏻
Thanks for this! You've inspired me to try out some leather crafting. Good with my hands, and love to make things from nothing. This will make it more of a reality.
Wow! Hypnotic hands! For anyone who can't help using sign language to accent their narrative, holding something in your hands will keep those hummingbirds reasonably subdued.😁😁😁
Thank you Ryan!
Just got my keychain and Royal M1 wallet in the mail yesterday, and I absolutely LOVE them!
Gosh....wouldn't it be nice to be taught by an old world craftsman.....that would be a dream come true! Thank you for all of your knowledge and craftsmanship in the art of leather!
Awesome information for someone just starting out. So glad you chose to share what you have learned. Thank you!
You can find the empty refillable paint marker at blick art the brand name is Molotow, the have it in different sizes. Great video 👍
Just found your channel, Im a graphic Designer but I really enjoy your process and appreciate the great work you do.
Ps: your photography skills really show.
That's it! I got my first leathercraft kit on Amazon thanks to you mate! So thrilled to try my hand at that!
I just want to say thank you so much for all of your knowledge that you share!!! Sooooo helpful!!! I am grateful!!!
You're my leatherworking inspiration. I hope to one day reach your level of craftmanship. But what I would really like to know is how do you store and organize your tools? I find myself just throwing things in boxes/drawers, so it's very messy. I would love to see if you have an organization system!
You had me at "Coffee"
I know you made this in August and I just watched the video for the 1st time, but man did you do a great job introducing me to leather working tools! I've been Involved with leathercraft for about a year now, and have spent a bunch of money on junky tools that I thought were decent. I became very discouraged and frankly stopped, but never wanting to give up. I think I'm going to trie it again. Thanks man.
I am not planing to make a job of this, more like a hobby. You have given a lot of GREAT information. I appreciate that. God bless!
I just bought your wallet template, a bunch of tools and 2 pieces of leather. Thanks for your videos and especially this one, it pushed me and I'm going to try this. Keep up your good work, and thanks for all your videos! ❤
You Sir, are a star! I love leather goods, actually, I think I'm romantically attached to craftsmanship across the board. I work in the glass industry engineering and managing high rise facades but started in Stained Glass back in a cathedral in southern England. I'll return to it shortly as I miss the simplicity of making something stunningly beautiful. Great work! When your site is active, I'll be dropping an order for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Totally appreciate this video, great delivery and use-description of the items. Thank you
You got me into leather-craft, man. Thank you for all your videos.
regarding your question at 14:40: you can buy empty markers exactly like this in most graffiti shops. the plastic they're made of is quite resistant to all kinds of chemicals because many graffiti artists like to make their own inks. buy empty ones, fill in the dye and there you go!
well, ok, just realized my answer was obsolete (see pinned comment above). Though maybe consider supporting your local graffiti shop instead of the big bad amazon ;)
Funny how a person’s destiny can go from wedding photography to leather craftsman
I love your video! Clear, quick, to the point and it smartly began with coffee!! Thank you!
I've been a bigginer for a while and this video was VERY informative. Thank you👍

Thank you so much for sparking my interests in a new hobby! Mind if I ask what thickness do you recommend for the wallets and where do you get your (brand) sheets of leather from? Cheers!
Love the craft.
Thank you, I just visited my first Tandy leather store, and wound up spending about 40$ and got some beginner things..fell in love and have spent about 450 the next day..I have made so much stuff in the past two weeks my hands are aching from stitching lol..thanks again..
4:34 someone is from Ontario ;)
Love the video!
those corner punches are absolutely worth it. One of the first things I bough and I've never regretted it
I just saved this as my favorite video. Thanks for the choosing leather video too! I love your work and your videos! Thanks Little King Goods!
You had me at coffee 🤤
I've always been very mechanically inclined and have been thinking a while about getting into leather crafting. This was a great video to get started and, fortunately, I already have a good portion of those tools. Now I need to start picking up those specific to leather and start looking up all the leather types, finishes, threads, etc. Thank you!
Same here! Wish you much fun through this journey. Also been a much mechanically inclined and diy guy. I'm in that same exact process after a good year of search and hesitation. Now, all those lockdowns finally got me decided. I guess you already came a long way by looking at the date of your comment. How did it all turn out ? I wish you the best to happen over there. Be strong, hold on, be safe and happy. Send you my best vibes and greetings from Belgium! ☺
Just watched a video on Pete's page and now im watching your videos! Amazing craftsmanship!! So amazing to watch the process and the finish product!! I want to learn! HI from Ottawa, Ontario!
You. Are. The. Best.
Love your work and this video just made my day. Thank you so much.
Awesome....! Thanks so much! I’m probably the only viewer that has worked in leather worker that has made in excess of 20,000 briefcases, attachés, etc. However, MOST of what I’ve done has been machine stitched. We don’t really have the space for large equipment at home. So, I’m learning how to live without clickers.... so, thanks 🙏 G
For this edge dye marker you might check Molotow markers, they are good for acrylic paint. They are selling them also as a empty ones.
How do you refill them?
@@LandersWorkshop twist open and refill
Thumbs up just for the coffee alone.
This was really a nice video and thanks for taking the time to make it. I appreciate the quicker pace and the assumption I know what a knife and ruler are. I've watched so many go into gory and went too slow simply to cover the basics.
What type of edge dye or paint do you use? It looks so fast drying! Thank you!
Смотрю твой канал ....спасибо!
Extremely helpful video!! Absolutely adore your work. Thank you so much!!
Thank you! I love your videos and the knowledge you give.
If you're still looking for the marker, they usualy sell them in graffiti shops.
I'm old school. I call it Leatherworking still.
Some many essential information in this video. It's super useful, very kind you are, thanks a lot Ryan!
Your tips are always 100 on point and very useful!
The difference between a punch and a pricking iron is that the punch is used to punch holes right through the leather, while the pricking irons are used to make marks and then you'd use a flat diamond awl to put the actual hole in for each stitch.
No, you can punch right through with the pricking irons. The difference is that the punch makes holes and removes material while the pricking irons cut through and pushes the leather to the side. So you dont need an awl to make the holes. You can hammer right through with the pricking irons.
Great info! Can you explain what kind of leather you buy and how/where you purchase it?
I know one place is OA Leather based in Canada but not sure the other places
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tools!
Interested in starting myself, and really really wanted a video like this. Thank you !
0:01 for a split second I thought you were howtobasic
Yea bro i have been waiting for this kind of video .................... Great
Thank you brother..i was aggravated before i began watching this..thank you for your calm and cool delivery
I enjoy information about leather work
1st recommendation is a cup of joe.....

Teach me magic man.
Thanks alot for giving direction to enter in this field.
Cocobolo is a CITES I wood now, since it's a Dalbergia genus. Smugglers were putting black rosewood (Dalbergia negra) logs in bundles with cocobolo because they resemble each other and make the illegal log hard to notice, so all of the rosewoods of the genus were added to the treaty list. I think that was in 2014.
I have a couple of chunks that were already in the country before the import ban. I bet it works great as a burnisher.
What do you put in the edge dye marker??
Also, reallllyyy appreciate these videos !
Dye?! hello?
@@calebfitzsimmons6278 he means: what type of dye you jackass.
@@AlexanderMason1 Oh, my bad!
@@calebfitzsimmons6278 haha no worries! I could have replied without calling you a jackass, so for that I apologize. Cheer!
Canadian eh, figured it ewt
@14:21 Those Refillable Markers are awesome! I got mine off Amazon, they tons of different types & sizes.
This is Awesome! Thank you so much! I can’t wait to begin my journey in leather craft. 👍🏽
It's just a simple graffiti marker like MOLOTOW
Nah i would rather have a good ole cuppa tea 🏴🇬🇧
yes mate, im with you
Thank you sir! I'm so excited for my leather crafting journey 😁
This is so helpful man thanks for you’re time in doing this .legend!
Edge dye marker is just a graffiti mop
Well, I was going to pursue a career of leathercrafting, but I don't much care for coffee. Looks like some dreams aren't meant to be.
This is awesome! Thank you for the video. A suggestion, if I may, showing the holes for the stitching punch or the pricking irons would be awesome to see the difference. Otherwise, really nice to see the tools and explanations of what they do. Thanks for the advice, as well!
Really enjoyed this vid ,i love quality of any kind ,leather work is so satisfying because if done properly can look very opulent 👍,keep up the good work.
