    It was easily one of the most epic and entertaining moments in a movie that was full of epic climaxes. As Thanos appeared to be on the verge of a repeat victory over Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man, Cap picked up Thor’s mighty hammer and was able to knock the Mad Titan back on his heels long enough for the rest of the MCU to show up. The issue of Mjolnir and who is worthy had come up before at an Avengers after party where Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, and even Rhoddy Rhodes tried to lift the judgemental weapon. It eventually found its way into the hands of Vision for the final battle with Ultron, but what happened in Avenger: Age of Ultron? Why wasn’t Cap able to lift Mjolnir when he could later on? Well, Marvel’s co-president teased a reason as to why. He just didn’t feel like it. But there’s more, what about Captain America getting Thor powers after Odin said that the hammer was just a way to focus his powers, but his powers come from within. Avengers: Endgame writer Christopher Markus has weighed in on that subject as well. We’re going to take a deep dive into both subjects and see how much sense it makes and what that meaning implies for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Thor as we move into Phase 4. Only the most worthy story will survive.

    When Thor hit Cap in the the first Avengers Cap was able to take and block the hit . I think Thor knew since then by the look he gave. Steve Rogers could wield a hammer since the first Avengers.

      @user-ep8ns6hg4q Před 3 lety +9

      Steve could wield the hammer since long before he became Captain America, his values have never changed and that's what determines what makes you worthy, Thor was finally willing to fight and die for people and not glory, he was not willing to lay down and let the other guy crawl over him, Steve was always the guy that would jump on a grenade, Tonys sacrifice may have made him worthy as well, had he known perhaps he could have survived with the hammer(like Thor eating the star and getting rejuvenated by Stormbreaker, Jane Foster will also reinforce this theory IMO).

    My theory is "being worthy" is different for every person trying to lift the hammer. As stated, Thor's "worthiness" is brought about by humility and sacrifice. Vision's is his valuing of all forms of life regardless of its span and origin. For Steve, I think, is his warrior spirit; he would always try to find a diplomatic solution, compromise and be indecisive to a fault. Sure he can fight but always as a last resort, even if it means biting the bullet himself. For Steve to wield Mjolnir, he needed to live up to the speech in the funeral in Civil War.
    Steve Rogers story arc in the MCU is being Captain America. Him wielding Mjolnir is the fulfillment of that story.

The second time, he did it for the greater good, but he wouldn’t be worthy right up until that point, so he COULD have picked it up right when he deciphered Strange’s plan and was willing to die, but not before.

He was willing to sacrifice himself at the end of the first movie because originally his plan was to be out of the way but when he couldn't he told Pepper to do it anyways, the second time he was willing to sacrifice himself was when Loki attacked earth and as usual our government's answer (because we know they'd of nuked the place immediately) is to nuke New York and so Fury tells Stark and he proceeds to get rid of it at which point Captain America says that's a one way trip acknowledgeing that and ignoring it calls Pepper for his goodbyes prepared to die.
