How many times have you rewatched Avengers: Endgame so far? Over 3000? Us too! We just love the epic conclusion to the Infinity Saga that the movie delivered to us, even if the ending broke all of our hearts. You know exactly what we’re talking about: Iron Man’s final line as he snaps his fingers to wipe out Thanos and his army, saving the universe from destruction.
It will surely be one of the most iconic moments out of any MCU movie ever, and yet we still can’t help but wish things had gone a little differently. As much as we think Iron Man’s sacrifice was perfect, there was someone else waiting in the wings who would’ve been a better choice to wield the infinity gauntlet. None other than the guy with America’s butt Captain America! Yes, that’s right, we wish Steve Rogers would’ve made the sacrifice play instead of Tony but what would that have looked like?
In today’s video, we’re diving into why Captain America should’ve been the one to wield the infinity gauntlet. We’ll talk about why he was the better choice for the job, whether or not he would’ve survived using it thanks to his super soldier serum, and how the ending of the movie would’ve changed with a bigger role for Steve’s best friend Bucky Barnes. No, the story worked well. The entire arc of "The Avengers" is that Tony started off as a "selfish" person and Steve started off as a "selfless" person. Their arcs had them each grow into more well-rounded heroes where Tony made the ultimate sacrifice and Steve got to finally do something for himself.

The reason behind Iron man being able to at least snap the gauntlet and wield it better than hulk, Is because his suit was MADE for that! He knew all along he had to go.

I can imagine Steve in the soul stone world after the snap seeing Peggy. She says he's late and Steve answers he's sorry and explains what he did to save people, as he always did. Peggy says no problem and then they start dancing...
I think that would be better and less confusing ngl.
Except I think that wouldn't be possible because it was Clint who originally obtained the stone and it was Natasha's soul that was sacrificed. Thanos was able to see Gamora (the sacrificed soul) because he obtained the stone himself and wielded it. I think that only the one who obtains and wields the soul stone is able to commune and only with the sacrificed soul. Think about it, why didn't Bruce or Tony see Natasha?

Sure! I'm not saying you're wrong or that they couldn't have included a scene like that in the movie. I'm just saying that it wouldn't make sense given the context of it. I mean the very reason they chose to exclude the Morgan scene from the movie shows that it contradicted with the actual idea of who can meet whom in the soul world.
I feel like Tony had the biggest character development arc. He went from being self centered to selfless. He went from a playboy in a mansion to a husband and father in a farmhouse. He went from trying to put a suit of armor around the world and creating Ultron/Vision, to not wanting anything to do with the time heist in fear of losing his family. On top of that the Infinity Saga started and ended with him. Man.

If you were going to have Cap do the sacrifice, then you have to alter the plotting a fair bit.
1) Cap and Iron Man don't reconcile as neatly as they do. There still has to be animosity. There has to be a conversation with Cap and Pepper to establish how much Tony now has to come home too.
2) Cap and Widow go to get the Soul Stone. (As a bonus, this gives Cap an exchange with Red Skull.) Hawkeye goes with the New York team. Tony goes back to get the Space Stone from his father alone after the New York job goes amiss.
3) The final battle goes more or less the same, but when Tony pulls the switch at the end, Steve steps in and takes the stones -- tells Tony "sorry...but you've got a date."
4) The funeral is at Arlington National Cemetery. Captain Marvel leads a "missing man" formation overflight to close the movie.
5) Steve is reunited with Peggy inside the Soul Stone.
New question: Did Wong attend Tony’s wedding as he promised he would be invited in infinity war?

Big fight Thanos using the power of the stones stones. *shield*gets thrown to the side. *mjolnir* is thrown to the side. “Ironman” gets punched and thrown to the side.

*ironman helmet retracts* *reveals Steve rogers*
Steve Rogers (out of breath) *looks at tony*
And then back at Thanos
Steve Rogers: “and we are the avengers”. *Snaps* (Steve sacrifices himself for his friends just like the moment where he was chosen to be a super soldier the moment where small Steve jumped on the fake grenade to save everyone)
(Also makes the moment of sickly, angry, tony stark handing arc reactor to Steve Rogers and saying he needed him and he wasn’t there a foreshadowing and a moment where cap was there for tony)
Thanos army disappears.
But wait... Thanos doesn’t. (He can’t be defeated so peacefullly.
Hulk punches him and puts him in a headlock in a headlock,
Thor full force electrocutes him, and Ironman (with the the last energy that he has left uses Captain America’s broken shield to stab Thanos through the chest in honor of cap’s sacrifice.
Tony is forced to retire due to his injuries and is able to be with his family (maybe even financially help the avengers still) Then tony “fixes” the broken shield and hands it to Bucky (just like his father gave it to Steve and therefore “fixing” the conflict of tony and Bucky)
I love the falcon character but he is not a “super soldier” meanwhile Bucky somewhat is. Unlike Sam, Bucky needs to redeem himself for everything bad he has done over the years and being cap and leading the avengers would be his “second chance” and an honor for his fallen brother in arms.

Also, I agree with everything that was said except the bit where Bucky should be the next Captain America... I'm a huge fan of the character but I don't think him taking on the mantle would've been the right move... Not because he's "damaged", "unstable" or "something else entirely" like the writers and directors of Endgame so 'politely' stated - after all, trauma DOES NOT under any circumstances makes someone unworthy of achieving something, it instead can be used as motivation to keep going towards said goal, but he had just gotten his HYDRA triggers removed and was living a peaceful life in Wakanda and rediscovering himself when the Thanos battle happened, so for him to take on the mantle so suddenly and be given the responsibility to take on yet another identity without finding out who he wishes to be first would be the wrong move... I know he was Captain America before Sam in the comics, but I'm happy they reversed that... Also I'm not the biggest Tony Stark fan but he deserved to live, to retire and to watch his own daughter grow, as Steve was always the guy who put everything and everyone before himself
Tony dying was by far the best ending they could’ve had. It was the perfect ending to his character arc, just how steve’s ending with peggy was perfect for his arc.
Not only would old Steve Rogers not be in the same timeline, it really makes no sense that he would live out a normal life in any timeline. That would mean that while old twinkle toes was dancing with Peggy, he would ignore the fact that his friend Bucky was being tortured and brainwashed by Hydra. He has too much knowledge of the future to ever just waltz around the clock while Loki invades New York with a chitauri army.
Steve Rogers was chosen for the super soldier experiment because he is not just a regular person, but someone who would sacrifice himself for the good of everyone else. Steve would have to be brainwashed like Bucky in order to change what he is. The serum only gave him the ability to act upon what his heart wanted him to do. He was still the same person inside. I don’t see how Steve could ever ignore those things in order to have a regular life.
It’s like Peter Parker said, "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you.". I know that everyone wanted Steve to have a normal life with Peggy, but he should have stayed that frail, weak, sickly little guy if that’s what he truly wanted. He would have to go back to the time before he got the serum and not volunteer. Once he took the serum, he gave up any hope for a normal life.
Steve ignoring everything wrong that he knows is going on in his timeline would be like standing there watching a kid drown and doing nothing to save them. You know you have the ability to rescue them, you just choose not to because you’d rather dance with your girlfriend.
That’s not even considering Peggy’s role in the shape of the future. She helped found S.H.I.E.L.D. If Peggy became a normal, 1940-50s mother and housewife, she certainly wouldn’t do all that. Her role in the future may well have been more important that Cap’s. Without S.H.I.E.L.D, there’s no Avengers.
It just doesn’t work, no matter how you slice it. It was really stupid. Giving up a normal life is what being a hero is all about, so twinkle toes Steve just can’t really happen, so it was a stupid ending. Then there’s the reality that old Steve wouldn’t be in the same timeline with our Avengers. As soon as he ignores his call and kept his date with Peggy, instead of crashing the plane, he changed his history and created a different timeline.
Nope, old, selfish Steve would have taken the super serum just to use his great strength to easily win dance marathons, while other brave superheroes fought and died to protect his and Peggy’s freedom to dance the night away.

yes, the story worked well. The entire arc of "The Avengers" is that Tony starts off as a "selfish" person and Steve starts off as a "selfless" person. Their arcs had them each grow into more well-rounded heroes where Tony made the ultimate sacrifice and Steve got to finally do something for himself. I feel like Tony had the biggest character development arc. He went from being self-centered to selfless. He went from a playboy in a mansion to a husband and father in a farmhouse. He went from trying to put a suit of armor around the world and creating Ultron/Vision, to not wanting anything to do with the time heist in fear of losing his family. On top of that the Infinity Saga started and ended with him. Man. Can you just imagine Cap holding his shield in one hand, the infinity gauntlet in the other, whilst holding Mjolnir with the gauntlet? You mentioned Falcon being a normal dude with mech wings. You might want to go back and read his original origin story. He was a reg more solid but in a battle alongside Cap he impressed Cap to the point when Wilson was mortally wounded Cap actually allowed some of his own blood to go into Wilson's mouth, saying he didn't know if it would help but it was the best he could do and the Cap went on fighting. It healed Wilson and gave him some amount of upgrade due to the Super Soldier serum in Cap's blood I wouldn't say it's a stronger ending. It's just different. Losing Iron Man is as strong an ending as your going to get. Nothing else would've given such an emotional impact. Thanos: I am inevitable Cap: and I could do this all day Hands off Cap! he was sacrificing a lot, so he deserved his storyline ending. Even though it was heartbreaking to see Tony go, it made perfect sense. And if Strange said there's only one way to win, it means it's only one way. It's silly to speculate on. About Bucky. I'd love to see his own movies with Falcon involved. Doctor Strange should've been the one as well cuz he can also do those calculations so people can return safely. I can imagine Steve in the Soul Stone world after the snap of seeing Peggy. She says he's late and Steve answers he's sorry and explains what he did to save people, as he always did. He knew all along he had to go.
