  • UPDATE V4.0 added landscape mode, nice!!
    Cardo's app is a real-time remote control for the headset. It's also a very easy way to setup/configure your headset. Do it!

    Love your vids mate, I recently purchased a new JBL bolds after using my previous set of Packtalks .. I have noticed that when in DMC mode whilst playing music the music volume is not independent from the Intercom volume.. it use to work like this ... DMC mode get a voice check roll volume to desired level... In DMC mode and no one is talking and music is playing roll volume to desired level. Perfect.... Now no matter what when in DMC mode with music playing it is impossible to set music volume independently from independent from Intercom volume...

    Hey MotoGeek. Great channel. Always my go-to place when I get stuck with the Packtalk. Think I pretty much have the hang of it now, thanks to you.
    Bit stuck again now though. I have just updated to the new Packtalk Bold JBL from the Packtalk. It looks like everything is now done via the phone app. There is also the new Cardo Update computer app and it appears that you no longer have to do anything via the Cardo Community anymore.
    It's still a bit confusing, as the docs with the unit tell you to register via the community site but when you go there it doesn't appear to work anymore with the units. We had registered the old units on the new desktop app for updates. The community site no longer seems to recognise that I have the Cardo Updater installed. Sent something off to support but don't expect much back from them.
    The unit gets picked up straight away in the Cardo Update app but this app is only for firmware updates by the looks.
    I suspect the docs are now out of date with the release of the Cardo Update app. Do you know if this is the case, that we no longer need to register or do anything (like settings) via Cardo Community anymore?
    Also, do you have to do anything, other than making sure Voice Control is turned on in the phone app, to have the unit respond to voice commands? Neither unit responds to voice commands, so wondering if I am supposed to do anything else to have this work. Haven't found anything in the guides. Have turned up voice recognition sensitivity.

    Hey MotoGeek. Thank you MUCH for making all of these videos. These really help in learning how to operate my new cardo. I have two questions for you
    (Background first) I purchased the double set. It is important for me to be able to talk with my kids. Intercom is working fine. I paired my (Dad) unit first. Then paired Passenger unit. Thing is that now radio only plays in the Passenger unit when both units are on.
    1. Is there a way to make the "Dad" unit primary so radio and voice commands are picked up by me?
    2. When both units are on and intercom is working, radio is in my ear, I cannot seem to add passenger to be able to hear the radio as well. I pushed the "Share" button on the app. but no luck. Same occurs when playing music. Any ideas on that?
    Thank you MUCH,
    Todd

    Very informative video. I just bought the duo from Amazon so I’m trying to learn how to use it as much as I can before it arrives.
    I’m curious about the radio, which I think is an awesome feature as I don’t stream much audio since I don’t have the unlimited package. I have a Kuryakyn Bluetooth sound bar that I am able to connect to my phone. Would it be possible to connect the Cardo to the Kuryakyn so I could play the radio through the Kuryakyn speakers?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 4 lety

      I don't see the Cardo paring to the sound bar because they are both "receivers" of outside signals. The Packtalk won't have a way to send-out the signal...it just receives it. On a side note, the reception is pretty impressive so that's nice:)

    How do I set the default music player, for example, if I want my default player to be Google music. Or Pandora or Spotify. Right now on the app it is bringing in a single song from "Samsung". Which is the type of phone I have but not what I use to play my music.
    Thanks.

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 5 lety +1

      I'm not sure if you can change the phone's default music player, but if so that would do it right there. By default the phone is going to want to use it's "native player". Easy fix, and this is what I do... just open Pandora or Spotify or whatever app you want your music to come from and play it through the headset for just a spit-sec. Now, when you go to start the music from your helmet (or the app), the phone knows where to pick-up from! It will start playing from the Spotify or whatever instead of playing from the phone's native player. Hope that helps man!

    Hi, Great overview. I am hoping you have some insight into the mute future. How does some let you know they are trying to reach you when you mute audio? If I mute so I can sing along with my music my wife who is on her bike behind me has no way of breaking in or indicating she wants me to come off mute. Given this feature rich device, I have to believe there is a way for her to cut in on my mute or send some notification?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 4 lety

      Great question and I've been hoping for this exact same ability. As of this post, when you're muted, the other person cannot reach you. They (Cardo) need to change it so that you can mute just your mic but still be able to hear inbound chatter if someone's trying to reach you. Hopefully this will happen soon! One thing worth trying... have her try to reach you using the "Private Chat" feature (see my video on that for more info) while your headset is muted. I'm not positive but I'm almost certain that it gives you a tone when activated, and that could serve as an indication to you that she's trying to reach you if so. Hope it helps!

      Ie, if you have your phone mounted on your bike and have the app open, you can access 3 assigned contacts...

      When you hit play through the app, I believe you're limited to your phone's native player and Spotify (you can access your Spotify directly through the Cardo app). BUT, for me personally, if I know i want to use Pandora or something else I just open the app itself. Even for apple music, I just open apple music. That way i can access whatever I want without going through the Cardo app. Hope that makes sense and helps out a bit!

Can you help please?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 4 lety

      This is tough because I don't have a Freecom 4 to play with, but do try these things and maybe it will help:
      - Make sure both of your Freecom's have the latest firmware-- they just released one recently that added Parallel Audio Streaming when connected to iOS phones (previously could only do it when paired to an Android phone). This should allow you to talk to each other while listening to music in the background.
      - If not doing background music, you should be able to force the Intercom to close down/stop by clicking the Intercom button once (either one of you) once you're ready to return to music, instead of waiting for it to time-out. Once the intercom is closed I believe the music SHOULD come back automatically. Then, when you want to talk again, just click the Intercom button to open it back up again. Hope that helps!

If it's still not pairing to your phone, I would do a Master Reset on your Packtalk (see video on that as well) then try again. If STILL not pairing to your phone, do the latest firmware that just came out (v5.6). Something is wrong with the headset if none of this works. Doesn't matter that it's not a Bold model, and doesn't matter that you have an iphone/iOS, it's 100% compatible with those and should be pairing.

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 4 lety

      Ah good question and No. For example, if you set the Music volume to 50% on the app, then it will be at 50%. But if you then put the helmet it on and turn the music up to 100%, then the app would then show 100%. Basically the app is showing the "current status" of the volume levels on the headset. They can be changed by either the app or the headset itself. The only ones that I really lean on the app to control (and the headset may not be able to control at all) are the System Announcements and the Back Music Level sliders. Hope that makes sense and helps out a bit!

      If you're using a Packtalk in DMC Intercom Mode, you can use the app whenever you want regardless of situation. If using it in Bluetooth Intercom Mode that changes things...if your Packtalk is connected to 2 other headsets and actively talking to them, you won't be able to use the app until you drop one of those conversations. Again, this is only the case if using a Packtalk in Bluetooth Intercom Mode (not ideal). Hope that helps!

    Looked at current reviews and Cardo Connect only gets 2.3 (iPhone), 3.0 stars (Google Play). Can you do everything Packtalk Bold features offer without the app?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 5 lety +3

      You can do MOST things without the app (setting changes can be done on computer if no app). Operation-wise, it's 95% not-reliant on the app for anything. Personally i think the app is awesome.... i think it gets beat-up on reviews because if someone has an older unit (like 3 years of more) or hasn't done their software update on the headset itself then that app won't work at all!!

      I know the app takes a second to load...are you leaving that screen open for at least a few seconds (like up to 5-6 seconds)? Based on what you wrote your phone and Packtalk are definitely connected...perhaps force-close the app and try again!

    what happens if one group member makes a phone call? Are they unreachable?

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 3 lety

      Yeah a phone call takes the top priority so that member would be "away from the group" while on a call. If you had to, you could call that member via a phone call to force your way in (at least that way they'd know you're trying to get ahold of them). As another option, the person on a phone call could use the "DMC Bridge" feature to bridge the whole group onto the call for a moment and check in. Hope that helps!

    When using the app to connect to non Cardo it always disconnects my Packtalk from the app. I then have to close app and try to reconnect app to my unit. Why?? Thx for any help

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 4 lety

      @Alex Trajano yeah, it's kind of annoying too I totally get it. It does it because when the Packtalk goes into pairing mode for anything, it temporarily drops the ongoing connections it has to make that new pairing. So, it puts the pairing to your phone on hold, which makes the app think it's not connected to anything. Most of the time I'll just do what you do...close the app and wait a min to reopen it once the dust settles. But if you just leave the app open while the Packtalk pairs to the non-cardo, then automatically re-connects to your phone, the app will come back to life. Hope that helps man!

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 5 lety +1

      Xavier León When you hit “Play” through the Cardo Connect app, it’s just going to start wherever you last left-off. If you want to listen to something specific, just use the music player of choice/folder instead. No need to use the Cardo Connect app for that in my opinion.

    I have a new Cardo Bold updated to5.7 yet my voice control , Hey Cardo is not working. 🤔🤨

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 3 lety

      Not sure what the issue is, but some tips: Make sure you are saying "Hey Cardo" followed directly by the command (don't wait for a beep or a pause or anything). Make sure the voice command is EXACTLY as written in the instruction, for example if you say "Hey Cardo what's my battery level" nothing is going to happen, but if you say "Hey Cardo, Battery Status" it should tell you. Other tips, don't shout (even at highway speed), just talk in a normal voice. And make sure the mic is in front of you mouth. I hope that helps!!

    Hold up, how does one name their packtalk? When I create a group and am admin, the other packtalks say 'PACKTALK'.

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 2 lety

      Oh definitely name your Packtalk, it makes life WAY easier when it comes to knowing who's in a group with you. To do it, open the Cardo Connect app then select the little settings gear icon in the top left. At the very top it will say "PACKTALK BOLD" or whatever unit you have...select it. Next menu you'll see "Unit name" - select that then change it to whatever you want. Keep in mind when you do this you're only changing YOUR unit's name - it's up to the others to do the same. Assuming everyone has named their unit, next time you go to open the app and see your group, it will show all the members names instead of just "PACKTALK, PACKTALK, PACKTALK BOLD," etc. Hope that makes sense and helps out!

If that doesn't work, do a master reset on the Packtalk. If THAT doesn't work, something is likely wrong with the Cardo. I hope that helps and good luck!!!

    What if your riding with both mesh and Bluetooth

    • @MotoGeekFreak
      @MotoGeekFreak  Před 5 lety +2

      It kinda depends: Ideally you want to utilize the "DMC-Brige" ability as much as possible because this lets you (the DMC mesh users) stay in mesh and bring Bluetooth guys into the conversation. Each DMC mesh user can bring ONE Bluetooth headset in, and It's just a lot more stable than everyone switching over to Bluetooth. BUT, say there's 2 of you with DMC mesh, and 3 Bluetooth-only folks, then more than likely you WILL have to hop down to Bluetooth Intercom Mode because you're outnumbered....if you will. Hope that makes sense!
