    One thing people don't realize is that dog bites are often more or less dangerous based on the person who was bitten. Given Peggy's age, a bite related infection could be quite serious. A younger owner with a healthy immune system and a good knowledge of handling fear and pain based aggression in dogs is what Archie needs. This more than a case of bad temperamental compatibility, it is a case of an owner with a higher risk of revere reactions to a bite with a dog that is has aggression due to chronic pain and fear.

      @@dorothygostanian1292 The dog is quite clearly not afraid of being touched. He has a bad reaction to needing to leave the car, which makes it dangerous for him to have an elderly owner. Bulldogs are incredibly strong and have a very powerful jaw. He bit her out of fear and stress, but it could've been a lot worse, there are cases of people losing fingers and the use of their hand due to bulldogs and bully breeds. This is just a horrible situation where the owner has tried to protect someone else but got hurt herself from a scared dog. It's the car that he was scared of, unfortunately it was probably going to happen eventually, it's just awful that it happened to such a loving woman.

    I’ve seen CZcams videos where someone has seen a fawn in the grass, and mom no where to be seen. As you said people think they have to rescue the fawn. I try explaining to the people that mom has placed the fawn there so that she can go and eat, that it is difficult for mom to find enough with baby tagging along.
    I get reactions such as thanking me for the info, they didn’t know, to those who are very defiant.
    Our house backed up to a forest preserve and the deer became so used to us because we left them alone. Sometimes they would leave the fawn in the grass or under a tree while they went off to eat. That was wonderful to see.

      @mary-ruthflores4107 Před 4 lety +12

      You can tell is a fawn is in distress if the ear tips are curled back, a sign of dehydration, if the ears are pointed then Mom is still nursing. Pointed ears, leave alone/curled ears, call for help. Either way only a professional should pick up the fawn

    • @rentechpad
      @rentechpad Před 3 lety +9

      This is very true of a great deal of wildlife which will 'hide' a baby while they graze pr hunt in the immediate local and they know exactly where the baby is and will be coming back. For some that practice keeps them safer from predators than keeping them by their sides. The babies are often easy to catch as they have been trained by the mother to remain where she has settled them and basically not move. What they are not safe from is humans who think they are 'saving ' a baby and actually end up creating an orphan.
      When you do spy baby wildlife the best action is to avoid rushing in thinking that the baby, like a human one, needs immediate care and comfort, as most times they do not. Stand back and observe, from as far as possible or even leave and come back after you know the mother should have returned. If you do not see obvious wounds, or blood on the baby or a dead mother nearby the best think you can do is go home to Google the animal in question and its behavior and what would normally be the length of time a baby would be left alone and when mother should return. In deer, for example, most often the mother will leave them hidden all day and return at dusk when its much easier for the adult deer to remain hidden and will nurse and care for baby then as mother has been out grazing and has gotten her fill to produce milk while keeping the target on her and away from where she has hidden the baby. People that follow that advice have all ended up calling back to say that they returned to check on the baby and now its missing or been moved. We are then able to reassure them that baby is now reunited with mom, as is their normal practice and everything is fine.
      This does not mean, however that a human should take it upon themselves to go up and touch or fondle the animal and play 'protector' to aid the mother while she is off after having hidden the baby. That too is no help, as many species will reject a baby that acquires a human scent. Many of us are taught as children to not touch a baby bird that has fallen from a nest as the mother will reset it if that happens but then grow up learning there are safe ways to return it to the next so that will not happen. People then become comfortable with the idea that the bird is not rejected so other mothers will not, and that is far from the case.
      Unless you are exceptionally educated in a species needs and how they rear and care for young, such as babies that can go all day just nibbling leaves around where its hidden and only needs to nurse after mother returns in the evening vs a species where babies have to nurse or be fed every few hours every few hours not rushing in and backing off and either researching yourself or contacting the wildlife experts for advice is the best action to take. If your really concerned observing the young from a great enough distance to not spook a returning mother and waiting to see what happens while waiting for advice more often than not preserves a family instead of creating more wildlife orphans. There are even small mammals that remind us of our domesticated animals or are ones that can be domesticated that can go long stretches without a mother present and are left alone in a den as babies are safer from predators while the adult is away from a nest or den and is a much better target and will cause a predator to not even notice a nest/den full of babies silently waiting moms return.
      Of course there are exceptions such as a nest or den full of babies that are loudly calling for a mother because they are hungry and after observation, and protection form a distance, you can see they are calling and hungry for several hours and mother does not return or a nest has obviously been disturbed a predator or you find a dead mother, then intervention would be required, but again its better to protect the nest while leaving the babies untouched and get the professionals in to collect the babies as they know the correct way to do so to cause the least stress and will know immediately what care they need and hat to feed them and how much and how often as well as having access to teh right formula.

He passed three weeks later. Yes, he was old. But I will never get over the thought that he might still be alive if I hadn't done that, even though he would have had to be on antibiotics over and over again due to the rot causing repeated throat infections. I think most dogs have the capability to lashing out to bite when they feel trapped or controlled or hurting some how. It’s certainly a communication measure. I had a dog bite me when I set it down in the kennel at the shelter because he was afraid of being left there. He was happy to have me hold him and take him out, but putting him back in the large pen made him bite me and bark angrily because he didn’t want to be left there. He was a mini pincher. Size of the dog doesn’t always matter whether they will bite or not. Abandonment fear can also cause aggressive behavior. One dog bit me because I tried to get him off my bed. The same dog went under my bed and wouldn’t come out. What he seemed to fear was being put in the crate I had to use when I wasn’t home. He hated being alone and barked when I wasn’t there and hated the crate if I shut the doors. He was fine sleeping in the crate with the doors open and I was there with him. He wasn’t stupid. He could read the signs when I needed to leave. He was also raised with his sister and I think he felt abandoned when he was alone. In the beginning he followed me everywhere until he realized he could relax and not worry.

      PewPewCat Cats can also randomly turn on their owners. Though it’s not random. An animal is never aggressive for no reason, they have triggers even if you don’t know what they are. It’s your job as their owner to keep them away from those triggers to keep them, you, and others safe!
      Most dogs are quite sweet when raised right. Bipolar isn’t that common in humans, dogs lashing out even when raised right isn’t common either. Most that do their owners figure out the triggers and either desensitize them to it or keep them from them.

    Chipping a pet is not expensive. In my neighborhood, there's a clinic that will do it for $25 ($35.08 in Australian pounds). It's not painful. The local humane society website says "To your pets, the procedure feels a lot like a shot. Most animals show little to no reaction to the chip, while it’s being implanted and afterward." It can save your pet's life.

      I feel really bad for that beautiful German Shepard and the selfish decision that woman made. I know all about the medical costs, but she should already have known the issues these purebred dogs have. She's had enough of them from her own statement. These dogs are very expensive and if she has dished out a large sum for the dog, why not dish out the money to keep that beautiful dog from being in pain. She is going to wait until it is too late and the dog cannot be fixed. Those braces are ridiculous and is only a bandaid.

    A dog prone to biting is a tricky situation - we inherited a shih tzu with A LOT of pervious homes - she was with my Great Auntie Anne for 5 years - she adored her and we promised we'd look after her after she died so she's with us for life - she's so anxious, especially with strangers, that we've had to get a warning on her lead for people not to treat her like a teddy bear - even tried to bite us a few times but I won't hold it against her - I'd be similar at the dentist without dutch courage 😆 - she's a funny girl most of the time (genuinely gives us a lot of laughs) who looks to all of us in our small family for confidence and safety - she would never recover from yet another home so nothing could make us give her up - she's difficult but she's family - if she was a large dog it would be more complicated but I'm glad we can give her a small sense of security - the point here is that dogs have complex personalities and, sometimes, complex problems - so do humans, and it's important not to expect perfection - if you have vulnerable in-house family members that's important to consider but, otherwise, be prepared to accept problems when you take on a dog as family - really not blaming anyone - it's important to have the right fit but going from an adoring Jack Russell to a very anxious shih tzu was a major transition which was not easy but she's family and we love her for all her strangeness 😅.

    45:06. Nope! Ed's not the only cat I've seen do this. Oscar does it too, and it's funny cause he's also a tux. Ed's just an *extremely* friendly cat, and him laying like that with his belly up is just a sign that he's super content.
    People often think of cats as fairly aloof, and while some cats definitely seem to prefer their space, some are very social and expressive, which might be why Ed is getting compared to a dog.
    As a cat person, there's just as much variety in cats as there are in dogs. Each and every cat is different.
