Re: Cookie - so sorry he didn't make it but just wanted to reassure watchers that it's pretty rare for that to happen. I've run a sanctuary for little ones for more than 20 years - rabbits, guinea pigs, degus, chinchillas, mice, hamsters, rats etc. We've had many undergo anaesthetic (for neutering & other reasons) & we've NEVER lost one. Neutering rabbits is vital (unneutered female rabbits have a more than 60% chance of uterine cancer & pyometra is common in all unspeyed female mammals) so please don't let Cookie's passing put you off. Make sure you get an exotics specialist vet who regularly treats rabbits (RWAF website has a list) not a general vet. Sadly lionheads & other flat faced breeds usually require dental work at some point & will need anaesthetic so make sure you have a rabbit savvy vet near to you before you adopt a bun.
Please don't let little Cookie's passing put you off getting vital treatment for your little furry friends, cancer or pyometra is a way worse ending than poor Cookie had. We've had buns live to 13 & older partly because they were neutered. It's the best thing you can do for them.
I wish I knew this information when I rescued EB X I just had to get him out of the situation he was in, he was thin, filthy and had a body score of 2 so we worked really hard to get him where he is now X he couldn't be neutered because he struggled with the anaesthetic, but luckily he was bought out of it X
Never had any issues since though X
Yup, I have a lionhead who is going on 9 and as healthy as can be. He was neutered at 6 mo by our local humane society for both heath reasons and because he loved our chihuahua a bit too much. As a lovely bonus he no longer had a gross smell.
I am SO glad you added this. I adopted my little guy and I need to get him neutered. This came up in my recommended and is the second rabbit surgery vid Iâve seen today. Neither rabbit in either vid made it so I was starting to get VERY nervous. More than I already was.
Iâve had many bunnies over the years. Males can be very rambunctious. Since this little guy was just dropped off in a box he could have been any age and he was possibly just to old to handle the stress and the anesthesia.
@@torioakley6000 it's ok to be worried about your friend, shows you care :) Have a chat with your vet for reassurance - most exotics vets have done thousands of rabbit neuters & often many on even smaller/more fragile critters like chinchillas, guinea pigs & degus. That & dental operations are their bread & butter. Most haven't lost very many over the years. A successful neuter isn't as TV worthy as a heartbreaking loss so that's why you're seeing them. They don't show the thousands of routine cases. Your bun will be very sexually frustrated, possibly aggressive & will destructive if you don't neuter & it's very, very hard to bond an unneutered male with another rabbit & that's without thinking of the 168 babies a year they can churn out! It's really the best option - good luck with it :)

The nurse at 11:21 looks really devastated when cookie died.
Omg that just broke my heart
Yep. Vet nurses are amazing, same as human nurses. Losing a patient must be incredibly painful every single time, and yet they have to turn round, wipe their tears and do it again.
I know I want to hug him
After watching many of these episodes, I believe Nate is a very empathetic person. He seems to be extremely caring for these animals, and I know it's going to be devastating. You do everything you can, and still lose the battle sometimes... It's never easy.
That killed me!!! đ
It was so sad that Cookie passed away but he left beautiful little bunnies. One being so like him is very special.
I'm sorry but I just don't trust this guy this is the 2nd time I have seen him do a bunny surgery or care and the bunny has died and especially since this time it was a spay and neuter all the vets that i went to, to ask them questions about the spay and neuter had a anesthesia test to see if it would go good for the bunny or not but he did not do that he went straight into the procedure basically what im saying is hes not really specialized in exotic animals and should stay with the regular dogs and cats
@@ihave2channelsfollowmyothe578 Unfortunately, anaesthesia can kill some animals, even us humans. Why we have to sign a form acknowledging this before we have an op. Whenever I've had to get a cat neutered or spayed, I've had to sign an anaesthesia form for them and it states very clearly the risks. As for this sad episode, you do not know if an anaesthesia test was carried out prior or not. Remember, this is filmed and they have to convolute maybe several hours into a few minutes to keep within the programme time slot on TV. We don't see half of what really goes on.
You keep calling him a him so how did he have babies??
@@maryholt9805 He was the FATHER of the babies đ
@@ihave2channelsfollowmyothe578 you do realise that bunnies are especially high risk dying under anesthesia?smaller the animal, higher the risk.
I would have named Cookie's baby that looked like him Cookie Cutter.
the vet was Cookie cutter. ahaah
@@alaalpha9940 well that was never actually done
Or a type of cookie... heh they could do 9 types because who doesn't like cookies?
I was thinking of Cupcake as a name, actually...
That is a cute name.
@11:36 I like that Bondi Vet airs what really happens when an animal dies from anesthesia. While it is unpleasant it is what Vets face as apart of the great work they do
It is and they really do try everything in there power to get the patient back as well, and yes you are trained for that you are trained on what to do to get them back but you are not with the loss just told its ok to take a minute to recover but you will then need to put on a face and continue like nothing happened the saying is you cannot cry more over the patient then then owners, you need to be there for them. Sorry for the long post I was trained as a vetinary assistant and shows like this are pretty accurate with behind the scenes
I worked at a veterinary practice and one of my friends and colleague had booked my bunny in for an operation because she clearly had something wrong internally. My friend reckoned it would be a routine exploratory and I warned her that I didn't expect Shadow (my bunny) to pull through the aesthetic due to how weak she was. I did get a call a few hours later, it's surreal comforting a vet when you're the owner of the animal thats past.
I am also glad to see the truth, not just the feel good situations
It's really good to show not just for the accuracy and candidness, but also, while it might sound a little cold, it makes for a better program. If viewers already knew that everything would turn out perfect, there would be no suspense
RIP Cookie My heart is so broken. I feel so bad for Scott and the nurse.
they both looked terrible. Scott and the nurse both looked like they were about to cry :'(
Same đ
U can tell they really do care. They tried really hard.
Nathan is the name of the nurse
The nurse looked like wtf did you do?
11:20 Scotts face was bad enough, but Nathan's face right then broke my heart =CCC
I held it together until I saw Nathanâs face. Thatâs when the dam broke and I burst in to tears. Just so heartbreaking.
@@Annie_Annie__ Yeah tell me about it... his face just said it all... you could clearly see the devistation sadness and compassion. What a wonderful vet nurse and human being he must be =)

@@aprilgosa5779 Yeah totally. However, I suppose that the wins would help to balance out the failures. But yeah. Tough job...
I still can't stop crying. They care so much about their patients. I lost my bunny to a heart attack during a vet visit so this one hit hard. Their coloring was even similar.
"For a companion and to love" the things everyone should want a pet for.
That old lady is the sweetest! she definitely deserves to have a companion to love and be loved!
I just want to give her a big hug, I hope she gets all the love in the world and I'm so happy she found such a good dog for her
I get the reasoning behind it, but I felt sort of sad that she got matched with an older dog...sad to think she might lose her new friend as well. But that's life, so I wish them both happy!
I know right? I'm glad she has friends to hp walk her too, so she doesn't end up with a dog who's destructive due to lack of excersize that she can't give. Warms my.heart

Me too I love my bby
I need to get my little guy fixed. This came up in my recommended. đ yeaaaaa hmmmmmmm...... I hate it
@@torioakley6000 Before I got my rabbit spayed she was super aggressive and she grunted all the time. After she was fixed she was super nice she is very lovey now and does not pee on me! I know how scary it is to have your rabbit put under anesthesia but most of the time they will be fine having them fixed also gives them a lot of health benefits like lowering their chances of getting cancer!
Just by how Scott takes care of his fur patients tells you exactly what kind of Father he is to his kids & thatâs a wonderful one.
I 150% with you. Heâs not just an amazing vet but he truly loves what he does and genuinely loves these animals. I would totally let Scott and this practice care for my sons 8 years old beagle and my very active female 21 month old husky. Jakes my grandson just as well as my 4 human ones as Katie is my daughter and as important to me as my own 3 grown human children.
That's actually not logical at all. People who genuinly love animals can be terrible parents to their kids. Loving animals is no indicator for good parenting. Do realise that a truly dedicated vet (lots of hours on duty) can be a absent and irritable dad to their kids.
But we've seen in several episodes how Scott is around his kids and there he's just awesome.
He's clever that's for shore
The letter from the old lady was precious. Who could resist getting her another little pup?

I clicked out of a video where a German Shepherd doesn't make it because I just couldn't with a sad one right now and I end up with a case that's too similar to what happened to my own bunny.
My son has bone cancer. He had his left leg amputated, and it spread to his lungs. Osteosarcoma is a beast of a cancer. Thankfully my boy is stable. So glad this sweet boy was spared from this deadly disease XO

I went to get my rabbit spayed and she died on the operating table, but they managed to bring her back. Sheâs not allowed to be spayed now, for obvious reasons, but this wouldnât stop me getting my next set of rabbits done as it does so much good for them, and itâs very rare that stuff like that will happen.
sadly allergies like this happen. Its the same with my cluster-migraine. I dont get a notification what sets it off or when it will happen it just happens. The sad thing is that the little hole-critters can die away as fast as they come cause they are so small :(
Cookie was such a handsome guy. So very sorry for him. He was happy and living well. How sad he passed away. He has beautiful babies !!!
I was sadden ed to see cookie pass away nbut it shows me how close to the very core of life vets are.
I'm really happy for that old lady and for her new dog. They clearly liked each other immediately. That dog will be spoiled rotten and that lady will have a loyal and adoring companion.
I'm just concerned how long that partnership will last, to be honest. We say to people in their 50, they are irresponsible to have babies. And kinda goes for getting pets when you are so old that they might outlive you. I don't mean to be mean here. It's a fucking fair thing to get old. Or deep depression or whatever. But if you find it hard to keep yourself tiptop, having additional responsibility is probably not the best. I do think that home visits to the elderly could REALLY benefit from having a dog come along. My grandma was in an old persons home and they had people come with their dogs quite often. ALWAYS a hit. This was a place for alzheimers and dementia. They would take pictures of the people living there with the dogs and so they could relive it and remember. So I understand what good a dog can do. I love dogs. At that age though, I feel having someone offer a service to come visit people with a dog is a better option. Cos realistically this dog can end up homeless yet again is a year or two. Same goes with people with disability or depression or something. The joy of dog is so real, but I think we should also think of the dog. It takes a very strong person to repeatedly adopt old dying dogs. But we are kinda forcing that on a dog.
@@jenat82 considering how many dogs die alone and unadopted in shelters, even a couple of years in the home of a person who will adore it will make a huge difference in the life of that dog. And it's unfair to say an older person can't have the full-time company of that dog just because they might die before the dog. You can't know that; she might live ten or more years yet, and in fact she might live longer just for having that pupper in her life. Depression and loneliness are huge issues for elderly people that can effectively shorten their lives, because it may cause them to neglect their own care or actively work against it.
@@anyjen that's a problem too. But i hope you do realise there are many dogs that don't get a home cos of dog aggression. Not really the dogs fault. Nor can you blame people for not taking that on. Especially if they have children.
@@jenat82 well she has many people that are willing to help out Iâm sure they would be willing to adopt if something happens but babs seems in good health and the dog is old as well
@@jenat82 I think babies and dogs are a little different. Adult dogs that are low maintenance are much easier than children. Plus the older lady has help. And many people live way older than 50 my family itâs quite common to live up to 90 and above
Well this was the wrong episode to watch after losing my rabbit... Poor bun. They're so fragile.
I cried when Cookie died, but seeing how upset Scott & Nathan were just shows how much it isn't just a job - it's a genuine love & passion for animals & it's silly but it's reassuring that it shows it affects them too. I love all animals (well except spiders & giant wetas lol) but I just couldn't do what they do, it would emotionally wreck me, so kudos to anyone who can đ
If the cameras weren't there, they might not have been That upset. And you are right, he isn't just a vet, he has a TV show. He needs his "animals survive his surgeries" reputation for Both his vet practice as well as his TV show.
@@billbauer9795you do realise if it was all about the show and everyone surviving they could just leave the âbadâ cases out? The fact that they are leaving them in there shows that they want to show all aspect of being a vet.
I lost 2 rabbits to indigestion. They went so fast. When they start feeling bad they just give up and die. RIP cookie and my 2 best friends. You guys did your best. I'm sorry for the lose
It's not so much that they give up but because they're prey animals they are extremely good at hiding symptoms even if they're safe and happy living indoors. But digestive system problems do get really scary, really quickly with bunnies.
Cookie was a handsome father. Due to a short visit this awesome male produced his legacy in the form of a mirror image son and lovely daughters. Rabbits are highly sensitive beings and vulnerable. So sorry Cookie passed. His legacy lives on. You were loved baby boy! Bless you and your babies...

The part with Babs was so heart-warming. What a wonderful woman - I just love her !! She loved her little fur-baby before they even met. Such a sweet lady!!
I almost couldnât watch about Cookie. Thatâs why the vet refused to castrate my rabbit, Loafer. Itâs been 20 years since I had him, and I still teared up.
Would really like to see Cookieâs babies when they are older! Hopefully there will be one who looked just like him!

Be a good boy and he would not have been in that position. Another one that followed hormones to utter ruin. So sad. History just keeps repeating. I wish he was not in the situation and I feel bad for Scott and Nathan. Such a sad outcome. Another testimony to keep under control.
Who else is nervous about that little dog chewing up that red ball. He's gonna be back at Scott's to get pieces of that ball out from his stomach.

Watching Cookie go through that reminded me too much of my baby girl Freya. She passed because she stopped breathing during anesthesia before getting spayed. Our other bunnies came out fine, but her it just didn't work. It makes me so sad watching it. Poor Cookie... :( :( :(
My bunny passed of a heart attack because he just got too stressed during a vet visit. I'm so sorry about your little Freya.
Cookies surgery really hit me. I own a rabbit who is also named Cookie, and this was my exact fear when I had her spayed. I can't explain the relief I had when I was called by the vet and was told that my rabbit was doing good.
My bun is getting neutered soon and watching this is making me soooo nervous
@@nightblitz0203 did your rabbit pull through?
This is very rare to happen. I have a friend who rescues them and sugar gliders as well and none of them have passed under anesthesia.
@@DeadpanVT I lost one, and she was sick so it wasn't a routine spay. If I didn't take her in then she'd die anyway, if I took her in then she'd at least have a chance. Dr Scott has a fantastic personality and is exactly the vet I would love to have attending to my dogs and cats. His patients are very fortunate and their owners too.
I wish we had someone like him where I live. But the vet I ended up rushing my cat into was pretty great, he called a few days after the visit to make sure she was doing better.
For some reason she vomits pretty regular, but usually only once in a 24 hour period. The day I rushed her to the vet she'd been vomiting all day and started bringing up blood. I was terrified, but the vet was so wonderful. The shots and tablets helped, and we haven't had an episode like that since. Phew!!

Scott sure did. Bless his heart. I'm glad I found this channel. Such wonderful people.
Now these guys are absolutely great vets! When the rabbit passed, both the doctor and and his assistant were fighting back tears. The vet only met him once for a few minutes and it absolutely crushed him when he didn't make it! Had that been a vet here in the states, most of them wouldn't have batted an eye! These vets are exactly the way vets should be, I really hate the the way vets can seem so cold and I know they trained that way but still. Pets for most people are as important as a child to them and the coldness can make a bad diagnosis that much worse!

I know right?? Elderly could use a pet more than most of us..It gives them company and something to care for.
But the thing is, you need to be able to provide for them and also have the proper documents and so on for that. Unless they have an ally that would be ready to sign a contract for the shelter that theyre willing to take the dog on 3x-5x a walk a day its gonna be hard to provide for them.

I lost my fur baby back in 2017 and I miss her so much! She had bad arthritis in both of her hips and I made the heartbreaking decision to put her down. It was so sad when cookie didnât survive the neutering operation. R.I.P. cookie đ„
Babs story makes me love this show even more.
I appreciate Dr. Scott's care and love for the animals he treats. I wish I could find a vet like that where I live. Most are pretty blah.
The dog with the security jacket on when he found all the toys he acted like a child and it was so cute
34:50 Bless her,. I hope they spend many years together.
RIP cookie đ hope you find peace in bunny heaven

I am so sad about Cookie. I have worked with a rabbit rescue and this does happen. They do make very sweet pets.
Cookie gave 9 furry blessings, sometimes that's all we are required to do. God bless you Dr. Scott and staff.
