  • Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny has been plagued by leaks and rumours of time travel, multiple Indy's and strong female characters taking up the whip and fedora. And after the release of the first trailer, it looks like they just might be true.

      My man.. I don't think its that bad.
      Those leaks don't sound too reliable imo.
      Mangold seemed to confirm that deaged Indy is the opening scene set in 1940s and that they wanted to start it off feeling like the old days before moving forward to the 1960s, and other set pics point towards NASA nazi scientists (bases off Operation Paperclip) and the moon landing as the main story.
      All the deaged scenes were set at night, and were either indy in nazi uniform or in his normal gear, but both could be in an extended opening sequence.
      All those leaks also claimed Mads is playing a younger version of Toht, but that's clearly not true. Just the original promotional pic they released of him with round glasses looked similar.
      KotCS was rumoured to have Shia take over in almost every single leak, and they all turned out to be not true.
      I don't believe they have the balls to kill indy off AND replace him with a younger female version.. he probably will die as its one of the only good endings for a character of his age and history, but mangold doesn't have the balls to put Waller Bridge in.
      She's just gonna be a sidekick, as he always has

      I read the premise for the film on Wikipedia, which sounds like it has nothing to do with time-travel whatsoever. The digital de-aging on Harrison Ford is for the prologue that's set in 1944, while the rest of the film is set in 1969.
      The premise is that " Indiana Jones lives against the backdrop of the Space Race. Jones is uneasy over the fact that the U.S. Government has recruited former Nazis to help beat the Soviet Union in the competition to make it to space. His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey. Meanwhile, Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit."
      From Wikipedia. Even if it sounds like it has nothing to do with time-travel, I don't have interest in seeing it. Not after what Disney did to Star Wars.

      Harrison Ford is a huge liberal. He has no problems shitting on the legacy of his own characters. He's always hated Han Solo and the fans of Star Wars. There's an interview where he discusses Han Solo, and how the character has "exhausted his utility" and he was willing to kill the character off for the "cause". There's a lot to say about the first three movies... how the first one is absolutely great and how the second one (Temple of Doom) is a little weird - Indiana doesn't exactly have the same personality (he's portrayed almost as a mercenary); we have to put up with a half-wit kid knocking 100-kilo men to the ground; the girl is annoying as hell; in the end, the little kids are saved and that's it, Indy learns a lesson and becomes a better man. A slightly strange narrative that is a significant departure from the first film, hence the enormous importance of the third film - which properly explores the protagonist; introduces the father character; bets on a much more sophisticated humor; and, miraculously, manages to show us a convincing young Indy (River Phoenix), in one of the best flashbacks ever. It's a very sophisticated film, with absolutely brilliant directing by Spielberg.

When I was a kid I loved Laurel & Hardy, Flash Gordon (with Larry ‘Buster’ Crabbe) and 60s stuff like Batman, The Monkees, The Addams Family etc. We all did. It was all before our time but we didn’t throw it away like trash because manners, heroes and humour are universal and timeless. We could inherit the best bits of the old as well as embrace the new. I could watch and enjoy Gone With The Wind while still understanding slavery was wrong. I don’t get that feeling of continuity or nuance today and I think it’s deliberate.

    I'm almost certain the reason they thought this was a somewhat feasible idea was that Ford could still somewhat shuffle around in Blade Runner 2049 so could demonstrate a reasonable capability of some light action scenes. However I reckon its gonna be compensated heavily by de-aging effects and stunt doubles. Still I am curious to see the finished product, I'm just not expecting anything great.
    May be slightly controversial, but it's also think it's , a shame that they dropped Mutt's character. It would be nice to see the roles reversed form the Last crusade with Indy being the curmudgeonly old father figure trying to bond with his son that he hasn't been present for, for the majority of his life.

You could even do callbacks to Last Crusade Connery and the current film's Ford, a knowing smile shared with the audience. For the diversity points, Mutt's sidekick is his girlfriend who helps him a lot or whatever. All the while avoiding Cold War intrigues mixed with indigenous populations dealing with the rapidly changing borders, governments and zietgiests of the post-war era. i think you can forgive the scene where Indy ducks behind the table with the people shooting at him. the original films had a fair amount of that type of stuff in them...like when indy was in the water after running from the Hovitos (i think i am close on that) and the plane is going like 5 MPH and a hundred Hovitos couldn't manage to hit Indy. or even before that when the boulder starts rolling and all Indy had to do was stand still and let it go over him..then just crawl out one of the many windows that was right behind him...Or when indy was on the ridge threatening to shoot the Ark and not one soldier just shot him... and that is just a couple of the many similar situations in Raiders alone....the films have always been tongue in cheek like that, and it is actually a decent part of why they are so fun to watch and hold up over time.

    I loved in indiana jones growing up. The first i ever saw was the last crusade. I was 5 years old and it became my favorite movie. Ever since then I always wanted to be like indiana. I even wanted to write my own story too. One trademark of indy was that to him, archaeology was an obsession rather than a quest for spiritual enlightenment. He always got caught up in the search for something of divine origin, but was never into the entire belief behind it. He didn't believe in the power of the artifacts he found until he saw it; its a "seeing is believing" theme with him. While everyone else around him believed in the power of the things he was looking for, he never cared for its spiritual significance. They should've kept him looking for divine origins as opposed to aliens and magic.

    Terminator...well it worked great for the first two anyway.
    End Game - although that was featured just in that one movie.
    Star Trek- has used it to great effect in different series and even movies.

    The "I was a child, I was in love, It was wrong and you knew it" controversy is totally fabricated. I've had the novelization of the screenplay for nearly 40 years. In the novelization, Marion was in her freshman year and Indy was in his last year when they start dating.This happened in the mid 1920s, which means legal age is 21 years old. But taking into account that Marion was most likely 18 at the time, she was old enough to know what she was doing.

    • @revpembroke3082

    • @Gearparadummies
      @Gearparadummies Před rokem +64

      @@revpembroke3082 Definitely not. The novelization says she's in her fresh(wo)man year when she gets involved with Indy. Indiana is working as Abner Ravenwood assistant at the time. So, she was underaged for her time, but definitely not a child.

    • @Gearparadummies
      @Gearparadummies Před rokem

      Another thing that is mentioned in the novelization which didn't make it to the movie was the fact that when Marcus Brody arrives to Indy's house to take him to the airport, he notices a student leaving his house. As a teacher, dating your students is highly unethical IMO, no matter if they're consenting adults. Indy is definitely a womanizer, but not necessarily a child molester.
