- Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the 'Skye-Lifers' celebrate a cosy Christmas in the cottage - putting up decorations and making Christmas Dinner, with a few of Willie's extra special recipes!

did you consider how your beautiful dog feels before feeding him sprouts, a joke for you but maybe not for him later. ..... Disappointed
@ladyannadronsolti4299 sprouts are a perfectly healthy vegetable to feed to dogs. If anything, it would boost his vitamin intake for the day. You watched this whole video, with all of its positivity, and decided to leave a negative comment about feeding a dog something healthy… on Christmas Day? Seriously?!

This may be controversial, but I don’t feel that you were obligated to explain why you opted not to get a rescue dog. It’s a bit sad to me that people presenting content on the socials have to explain personal choices so as not to come under attack from those who take offence. Unless your content is hateful, you should be allowed to live your own lives without having to justify every decision. You guys are clearly very conscientious people who try to be climate aware, etc., and to make informed choices. I’m very happy for your new puppy!
Hi, you raise a good point.
Ultimately, we wanted to make a strong stand point that buying a dog (and particularly a puppy) is not something to be done as a Christmas gift, or on any sort of whim.
Also, if we don’t explain our actions, our comments section will light up with questions, which we don’t always have time to answer properly, so we like to include as much detail in our videos to properly explain things.
Finally, I guess there is a part of us that feels it’s best to attempt to quash any potential trolling by explaining our reasoning in a balanced way, but it really doesn’t make much difference anyway, as we always are hit by the trolls anyway in one way or another - week on week.
Most often in the form of aggressive virtue signalling.
I guess it’s just part of having an online presence these days.

Dear Willie and Sarah ☺. Last week I posted that my lovely husband Terry had passed, and how he loved your vlog. I'm here again to thank you for this christmas eve post, which sadly im watching without him, althouh its filling me with joy and laughter, hw would have loved it. You two are a great couple (just like me and Terry in our early days). Also I would like to say thank you to all those that posted comments to me personally. Me again! Forgot to say that Robins are messengers. Was so surprised to see one in the vlog. Terry loved feeding the birds and the robin was a bit special to him, as we always seemed to have one with us on our walks. Gave me comfort seeing it .... Thank you xx

I currently have a black spaniel like Jack and his name is Max. Years ago I bred black cocker spaniels and one of them looked just like the new pup. His nose was covered in freckles which later turned black on his white nose so I called him Freckles. He was my favorite!!!! Love to watch Jack so am looking forward to the new pup!
As they say a dog is not just for Christmas, by the way you treat Jack, it is obvious you know this. Our first dog we had from nine weeks old, we had her for 16 and half years, her favorite food was carrots.
I look forward to seeing Jacks play mate.

I'm making root roast for Christmas. Onion, garlic, beets, yellow potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, and parsnips are wonderful together sprayed with olive oil and seasoned with herbs. The left overs make a great roasted root soup. Has Jack ever cut his paws on the ice? Jack would make a great dogie daddy. It is Christmas Eve here. Merry Christmas.

I cannot agree with you more about having a second dog. My first springer Brodie was in the same situation as you are and I used to feel guilty that he needed more attention and companionship despite all the walks etc that he was given. Eventually I got a second Springer called Jenny as a pup and the difference it made to Brodie was tremendous. Initially it takes time for them to adjust simply because one is an adult dog and the other a puppy but in time they became the best of friends and spent the time entertaining each other. Jenny followed Brodie as he taught her all the doggie things they need and it was a great success. Dogs are naturally pack animals and I think that is the secret to a successful companionship. Having two dogs isn't really any more work than just having one. In fact, I think it makes it easier. Happy Christmas to the three/four of you and the very best wishes for 2024

I loved your Christmas vlog we recently lost our 15 year old springer Finn and for our 46 anniversary on the 23 rd of Dec. my husband surprised me with a 9 week old springer spaniel who is black and white. Merry Christmas! We will be celebrating the day with my parents and our youngest daughter. We got to see the 7 month old twin grandbabies open their gifts this past Friday. A super Merry Christmas frae Skye. I wis in Pinehurst NC Christmas day evening watching Skye life. I was sitting at the kitchen table while the family (all American) were in the living room and I'm roaring over Willie, Jack and the brussel sprouts. When I told the family "Grandpa you wouldn't do that to Hondo? Methinks next year and I'll blame Willie. Best wishes from South Carolina.

I love Brussel sprouts. When I trim them I cut an X in the stem end with a knife. It helps that dense portion cook more fully.

Christmas mince pies don't actually have meat in them, weirdly 😅 its raisins and apple and other chopped fruits with spices in pastry, that's why Willie had his the way I always have mine.....with cream I've whipped myself 😋😄

Happy Christmas to all at Skye Life Cottage. Looking forward to meeting Nori. I did exactly the same thing, getting another puppy for my dog before he got too old. No regrets at all.
Sprouts rule!! Especially in the air fryer with some sesame oil, cross the sprout bases helps them cook through too! Also parboiling in the microwave takes no time at all!

I like brussel sprouts fried in butter until they are slightly caramelized. Mmmm.
There is not a naughty bone in Jacks body. He is so sweet. Jack should not have to divide his affection with another dog.
So by your logic all humans should be only children so that the affection is not 'divided'? Sorry, but that's rubbish. Some dogs love the company of other dogs, and Jack is so social, as Willie said, for the times when he and Sarah are working, the new puppy would be a great companion for Jack, and have you seen Willie and Sarah with Jack? Do you really think for a moment that they wouldn't make sure Jack was happy first and foremost? You spread love, you don't need to cut it up and divide it.

Cut the sprouts into quarters or slice them, and add some maple syrup to the brussels sprouts and even Sarah will like them - amazing taste!

You have brought up some very important issues when buying a dog , the new dog has to be properly trained when you live in an area with wildlife and animals ( a young dog is easier to train) . Jack spaniels has to accept a new brother …again it’s better to have a younger dog . I’m all for a rescue dog in general but with all the requirements that are needed I agree a puppy is the best option . So looking forward to seeing your new. Friend in the new year !
