I hope you do more about living in Wales. I’ve wanted to move there myself, but too old now, almost 80 and l just had a stroke and have to use a walker. I have gone to Wales back in the 80’s. Met a lot of family then. Now I can see how much it changed and how much I still love it.

I totally agree about the allotment, my allotment is more than just growing veg. It is my peace and quiet and nothing beats sitting round the firepit with a nice cup of tea 'beautiful'
I used to go to London regularly and always noticed that in London if I blew my nose [pardon me] it was blackish from the air and in the Cotswolds completely clean so your air quality should be much cleaner. Give my love to Wales x
Ask around, there are SO many little stables around, they're glad to get rid of the waste and they more than likely will have a horse trailer. If you offer to bag it, they may well deliver to wherever your new allotment may be.....just a thought.

I used to live in Brynmawr for24 Years i left 2 years ago im getting settled in my new house as well and doing all the same things your doing. Im back in my homeland scotland . I learned alot about wales , the valleys when i was there. I come back to visit to keep in touch .
Ive had the experience of growing veg as well , it can be time consuming but the rewards are great tasting vegetables .. Tomatoes were best grown in Greenhouse. Compared to lower lying locations expect to be a month behind , Abergavenny is an example same with the daffodils coming out sooner.
Sean, my mother was of Rhondda Valley heritage I asked her why she put so much salt in food she said that he brothers were coal miners and needed the salt because it was such hard physical work.
Spotted the Welsh slate coaster, Sean. I bought a set of those in the round shape and every one is different because they are hand napped. I love them!

Sean just a suggestion. Maybe bring back the victory garden. When you get a plot. We are in for tough times soon and I think that would be helpful to new gardeners like me. :)
My dad sung with another well known male voice choir. He had performed several times with the Treorchy Male Voice Choir. Its a beautiful sound but it is also a huge commitment

my boyfriend lives in a house share in London, it save a lot of money compared to having your own home and sometimes you have company, People tend to come and go. He has a large kitchen which helps a lot but some people in the house barely cook and only eat takeaways!

Dear Sean, that is a lovely idea that you gifted half your daffodil bulbs to the community project. Nice to film the daffs progress as they come up. For now, i personally would choose to plant up Each variety/bag of daffs into Separate Pots. To put them around your garden, enjoy them and then they can be enjoy them in then transfer them to new allotment in time.
Freecycle or Fbook marketplace may have free gardening pots available. can always easily be freshened up with a spray of paint or lick of Frenchic Al Fresco /lazy range of paint will work outdoors and create a colour theme, and fab display if that is to your liking.
Another suggestion: storytime with Sean, just listening to you reading a short chapter from a book would be relaxing & calming i feel. Have a Good day.
Oh, I think throwing all the bulbs together might be really nice. Almost like wild flowers...you don't know what you've got. And surprises are always so enjoyable. You look very relaxed and happy. I think the happiness arises from having so much contact there in Wales...as you say you've been really busy. Good for you! I've had several black cats. With the first one, shelter people warned me to watch around Halloween because weird people in the States might injure the cat in some way. All my cats were rescues (feral) and very, very afraid of other people. So, in a sense, I was very gratified because they would avoid people and not be hurt.
I live around 5 miles from Pontypridd and this is the first I knew that the Eisteddfod was coming. I agree the publicity could be better.
If a allotment takes ages a good idea is vertical gardening.That would ge excellent for anyone with bad back or knees

For many months I've been buying bottled water but after reading an article in the newspaper I decided to change and use some kind of filter. I don't have room in my fridge and limited space on the worktop for a large jug, so after looking online I came across Black + Blum active charcoal filters. I've been using it now for a couple of weeks and am very impressed with the quality of the water now. One stick lasts for 6 months and after that they can be used as plant fertiliser or odour remover. Love the videos by the way!
A distiller is the only way to get all impurities out of you’re water.

Hi Sean, I'm a new subscriber and am enjoying binge watching all available videos. I have a suggestion for your kitchen - a soup maker. They are brilliant, easy to use and cheap to run. Just pop prepared ingredients in of your choice and switch on - yummy, tasty soup in 20mins. I'm sure you won't regret getting one. Along with your new slow cooker they will save you hours enabling you to get out and about. You can even take a thermos flask of hot soup! Take care. Xx

The same used to happen to me in rural Norfolk regarding foxes removing markets where seeds were planted. I knocked in stout pegs and then threaded string through the hole in the top of the marker and tied them securely to the pegs. As a back up I also took photos with my smartphone.

I’d be interested in seeing that video if you do find it as I believe it was other halves Aunt and Uncle. Beryl and Dick Walters. I remember hearing that people used to take their Turkeys there to be cooked in the big ovens. He stills says he’s never had a corned beef pie as good as theirs.

I’ve been pleased with our Big Berkey very nice taste, can back flush the filters which last a very long time.

My black cat was the longest-stay in the rescue centre even tho the staff there loved him. Apparently black cats are the least wanted. He's been with me a few months now and I wouldn't swap him for anything! He was found as a stray so i waited a good few weeks before i let him out. I've had a couple of times when i've had to go out looking for him but mostly he'll come when i shout. I usually give him treats when he comes to my calling.
I found it you whistle a unique tune every time you feed the cats you get to a point where you can open the door and whistle then suddenly they reappear.
I think black cats are beautiful. I had one for years call Mika and he was the most beautiful creature ever ❤
I would wait as near to about 4 weeks before you let your cats explore outdoors. In the week before put some of their spent urine litter in the corners of your garden,( say under some pots on feet, under the shed, by any posts if te are in a prodominant position over looking anything.
This marks their scent, lets neighbouring cats know that that area belongs to your cats. 4 weeks also gives you a chance to settle, & observe any feline neighbours, their temperment and where they are likely to live.
Observing all local regular dog walkers and the temperments / behaviours of the dogs is also useful.
You might get to chat to your neighbours in that time to.
Then your cats explore whilst you are enjoying your garden / having a cuppa, and BEFORE a meal time. Also gives you a chance to update micrchip details, and if you choose to get, set and activate a microchip cat flap. ( in 2024 all cats & kittens over 12 weeks are required to be microchipped).
Another reason for putting spent urine litter in prodominant places around your boundries, is when the cats are out, it will smell of them (pre-scented) then if they do get spooked etc, they have a better chance of finding their way back quickly, As their scent would have already been drifting. A bit on a shed roof might be worth an idea, especially if you are in a terrace where all the houses are identical & gardens back onto each other.
If they will wear collars, I would definately recommend a reflective one for your black cat, even if it is just until the better weather comes, as if it gets spooked, or hides it is almost impossible to find them, literally looking for their eyes.
When I moved, mine door dashed, (at about 10 days, when I went to work) one came in when called the other I didn't realise had ninja'd out. She ended up getting locked out, and the panick of trying to find her, when I realised. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. After searching all night, the second evening I did a leaflet and did a door to door knock with all houses at least 5 doors in every direction, inc over gardens. Whilst I didn't find her on the door knock, I got to chat to all my neighbours, found out who had cats (all offered to keep theirs in - which was a lovely thing for them all to offer). She was able to make her way to under my shed, petrified, where I was able to eventually coax her out, while her food was half way between the shed & the door & I ate a tuna sarnie, just after dark. I did another leaflet drop thanking my neighbours and saying she was home safe & well :)
Depending on their temperments and back grounds, you could harness train them, and introduce then to your garden that way. Especially if they have only been indoor cats. Cats' Protection have loads of advice, as does Simon's cat - on CZcams.

He left Wales in his late 20's, because of his very bad asthma... they told him he needed the sun and dry air in South Africa, so off he went. And then he met my mother and a while later I arrived. Your accent is not as broad as his was. Even so, it does my heart good to hear it! The friendliest man, he loved telling a good tale and sitting down at the piano, playing and singing his heart out. Bless you and thank you for the happy nemories and your fascinating channel.

My electric multi-function pressure cooker is probably my most used appliance. I have an Instant Pot.
Love your kettle Sean I use my slow cooker a lot especially for stew brown the steak pieces off in a frying pan I add seasoning then put potatoes,carrots,peas really anything you fancy then add about half pint off water don’t put much water in it because it will end up like soup,ham is lovely,and a whole chicken seasoned with butter and garlic salt I don’t add any water because it cooks in its own juices,also silverside is the best in a slow cooker with oxo cubes all the meat is so tender and tasty 😊
Rubbing Castor Oil into my right knee helps immediately with the pain, it’s very thick so you don’t need much but it’s a god send Sean, good moisturiser too
Spare food is brilliant for bartering/swapping!
When I took over my house the whole of the back garden was a vegetable plot. It was feeding 2 adults and 2 teenagers! I was working full time and had a DPC injected. A lot of decorating required. I made a grass area and used the beds for shrubs. Once the building works finished I formed a bed for veg, only 8ftx4ft. I enjoyed it so a year later I formed 3 more, more or less the same size. No space for potatoes but cut and come again type things give you a little fresh food without giving yourself the task of preparing and freezing a whole crop. A 30l pot with 8 dwarf beans will give you a portion of veg several times a week, each hand full is fresh rather than a bagful from a shop. Similarly, 1 celery plant can have a few stalks cut and it continues to grow, a courgette plant will give you plenty, don't wait until they are shop size, pick when they are a portion. Same with a few chard plants. Brussel sprouts don't have to be harvested all at once, unlike cabbages. CZcams channel 'Home Grown Veg', inspired me to grow things in pots and tubs. (See his 'square foot garden' in flower buckets). My major challenge is wind, so no outdoor tomatoes.
Even your small, vertical yard can provide something, perhaps seed swap with neighbours. 😉
Hi Sean, loving series. I have lived alone for 8 years now 65 and have a slow cooker and an air fryer. I get fed up of too much effort cooking, but the air fryer is incredible, economical and not much washing up. Fantastic for any meat, always juicy( not dried out) and so easy. I envy you living in Wales such a beautiful country. As a motorcyclist the places you can go are incredible. I use a Britain’s water filter as my water is disgusting but I buy cheaper filters off e bay as Brita - v expensive.

Been living in Wales for most of the last 44 years, the last four also with a rescue feral. A couple of previous cats I had were also sisters who had been in the shelter for 18 months after being rescued from the farm that was burned down after one of the John Cooper double murders. Coincidentally, I now live less than a mile from a house where a supposed murder-suicide with subsequent fire happened in the 70s, but it has all the hallmarks of a John Cooper murder, which is now suspected to be the case.
My grandmother was a district nurse and midwife in rural Pembrokeshire between the wars. One of her funny stories was her visiting a young mother who was preparing dinner and complained how long it took to pluck the rabbit. It is very important to keep the old stories alive, and what the real world really was like as they are trying to re-write history.
Lovely kettle with a touch of steampunk and a chrome bezel dial that does something. Reminiscent of classic motorbikes, the kind my grandmother actually rode on her round, later also my mother. And then, me, third generation female, bought my first bike at the same bike shop as they did - Bowens of Llawhaden.
I adore mixes of colours. And clumps of cottagey flowers. I'd love mixes of bulbs BUT you may find height differences say with snowdrops and tulips and the little ones may get drowned out.
I don't cook with salt either. I leave guests to add their own.

Re water filter jug, I can recommend the Amazon Basics one £21.50 2.3L and very sturdy - we just bought one and is great it's made in Germany so our guess is it's made by the same people who are well known for water filter jugs certainly the style of the Amazon Basics one is very very similar also we use Amazon Basics filters and they work perfectly!
I would throw the flower bulbs all in together which I think would be more fun or you could plant the Daffs between the Tulip bulbs as Daffs come up first then you have the colour of the Tulips after!
Morning Sean. I've got a lakeland glass water filter. It filters more chemicals than the Britta and to filters are around £16 for 3. Have you heard of Gaelic salt, its full of healthy minerals, you could add that to your meals and benefit from it at the same time.
I have heard that if cats get out just put their litter box outside and they will find home. Good noses! Thanks so much for all the updates. Just lovely.
A distiller might be better Sean. I use one every day. Of course you will have to factor in the cost of the electricity used but I find that rids the water of more impurities. You may have to supplement your electrolytes too as all the salts a re removed
For arthritic pain, I have found that Feverfew tea before bed works well, with Yumove supplement in the morning with breakfast, I also wear a bioflow bracelet, and in winter switch the electric blanket on before bed. I stear clear of foods that encourage inflammation, like potatoes and tomatoes, and especially sugar. I have found turmeric and ginger have also helped me, along with the above stuff.
I'm going to try those. My Dr said avoid anything with flour. I was sceptical, but I have to say he was right. I've noticed a real difference.
@@sarahholland2600 I don't eat gluten anyway. Hope all goes well. I have also found that Rosehip also helps. Turmeric as well. (Not together). Don't have the feverfew tea every day or for more than a couple of months, as it can cause anxiety & depression & thin the blood too much.
@@carolineowen7846 Thank youfir the advice . I've found the gentle exercises I got from a Physiotherapist with a YT channel amazing too. Far more effective than painkillers.

I found cod liver oil also helps, then nibble on some fresh parsley afterwards.
I call pain management, the pain onion, so many layers, so many tears ....
Some exercises do help, as does some of the yoga movements and stretches. Tara Stiles has alot of helpful content imho. Sadly no easy fix, and much is weather dependant.

I have a berkey water filter, quite pricy, but worth every penny, you will need another one, the filters last a long time (years) so no need to keep buying the small ones that end up costing a fortune :) I have had mine about 15 years :)
I use a Phox filter. It’s £££’s to buy but once you have the jug, a years filters are approx £50 . I’ve had my 5 years now and the water tastes fab, with minimum land fill!

The Treorchy excuse spelling choir are fantastic , bring tears to my eyes every time i listen. I think you need time to settle in befre joining anything that requires such huge commitment, wise decision. I put a pinch of iodised salt when boiling or steaming veg, to help with iodine level, big issue in the past These days they add it to bread and maybe other products but with a history of thyroid myself and family i continue adding. This is probably why your mum added it too. I dont use salt any other way and hate it on fish and chips. We might wonder things about you but id never ask or expect an answer in any personal info, some people disclose too much, your spot on in keeping personal things private. I love the kettle. Loved the chat.

I live in Tredegar less than a quarter of a mile from the water treatment works and the water here tastes horrendous.
We bought a brita filter, that you can change the carbon filter in every 3 months.
Best thing we have done , water tastes amazing , could never go back to regular tap water .

I stopped salt but after reading that natural sea salt provides many minerals. I bought some Celtic Grey Sea Salt..

After seeing him on television when I was injured, I purchased the book "Live Pain Free" by Lee Albert and have found it to be immensely helpful for pain in different parts of the body and injuries. He covers pain or injury in different areas of the body in each chapter and there a chapter on knee pain covering the different stretches, modifications, or strengthening, etc., that need to be done. There is also one on low back pain amongst others.
Also before and after your hikes I would always do a quick calf, quadricep, and hamstring stretch as I gave myself an injury in my early 50's moving to a new area that was very hilly and hiking without stretching thinking well it's only walking. Especially do not leave out the calves because they get very tight because of the hills.
I currently live in the US so might not have the same brands, but I use a water pitcher and filter like PUR or Brita and I find this very effective for removing chemicals and improving the taste of the water you drink or make tea with.
How nice that you donated bulbs and will be able to ramble around the village discovering them. I think you had said in an earlier video that you would look in the spring for plants you planted up on the mountain in your younger days so that will be interesting to see as well.
It will be lovely to have salad and spinach and maybe a few herbs that you use regularly right out your back door.
I think in no time you will have a lovely local social network in addition to being able to keep in contact with your London friends by phone. Fingers crossed for you that the stress reduction from being able to access nature more easily and the peace and quiet and the hill/mountain walking will improve your health and wellbeing. That is once the stress from moving calms down as it is major. You deserve some down time. Take care of yourself.

I saw the one where you were saying goodbye to Rusty. When you were videoing Rusty walking away and he stopped and turned to look at you, I believe he knew he would never see you again. The look of sadness on his face broke my heart. So, I was thrilled to find out in this video he has a actual home and family he lives with!! You are a kind hearted person in sending special treats for Rusty! Quick question: I plant daffodils every autumn in November but failed to do so this. Is it too late to plant them now? Watched your video on utilities and couldn't figure who or what you were about so I am glad to see this and I will subscribe. I love gardening, cooking and I am addicted to books. I imagine I have 500 books by now. I do not like to read online. I want to hold a book and carry it with me. Lots of gardening, cookbooks, history and biographies. Love researching ancestry. My Appalachian people were wild, like reading something from the Wild Wild West. I will have to check out your books. Diet is important for fibromyalgia if you are plagued with that. You said you don't use salt but giving that up would be out of the question for me. A Berkey is a very good choice for filtered water but rather pricey.

You can get a wireless front door bell, that you stick on the front door, and you put the plug in a socket, and it will ring so you can hear it. They do not cost a lot of money, and work really well. Hope this will help, as you could leave your kitchen door open, whilst you are in your garden, and put the plug in the kitchen, so you will hear the door bell outside. xxx
Hi! Sean! I've just bought us an electric kettle. It is the best one we have had. Breville Bold. Light. I chose it because the lid comes off. I had found that the kettles with spring-lids would break and I don't like them for my arthritis fingers but I found 1 kettle that has a lid that comes off properly: fewer parts to go faulty!

PS I got it for £21 all in Amazon Prime because it is classed as used as in someone had spoilt the cardboard box. It boils water for one mug in 30 seconds!

Talking about cooking gear as you have just mentioned a slow cooker which is great but a air fryer is also very healthy way to cook and can cook so many different foods in them.
When the other week you mentioned the TV license which was so surprising as I thought that was not a thing anymore. Is it in Wales or other parts of the UK. I think the last time we paid for a license was in the mid seventies.

What you need is an RO water filter with a mineral replacement cartridge. They are not cheap but you need the reverse osmosis to remove fluoride, chloride, pharmaceuticals and bacteria and viruses.

Thought about people’s suggestion that you get slow cooker, but I think an air fryer is more practical for a single person. It cooks quickly, doesn’t have to be preheated and uses very little of that expensive cooking oil. I’m enjoying your Utube videos immensely.
There's only 3 of us in our house and I love my air fryer. Have a slow cooker but have never really used it.
I think it depends on the kind of meals you like to eat. A slow-cooked meal is not the same as an air-fried meal
My tuppence worth; Just get a tiny slow cooker, it’s great for stews/ casseroles. They use very little energy, equivalent of a couple of old light bulbs. And a small air fryer, also saves you heating up the space in a normal sized oven. I use both of mine often.

I’ve found that if you delete your payment details from the app and then add your payment details back in you can then amend your billing and delivery address.
I stopped using salt many years ago, I find there is enough salt in stock cubes and other food flavours, Marmite, Worcestershire sauce and so forth.
I too am interested in installing a water filter, so I am interested in which filter you choose and how it is installed. My son purchased a water testing kit, we were so surprised by the result.
