  • We got some news from head coach Jared Bednar on some injuries surrounding some Colorado Avalanche players.
    First was Gabriel Landeskog. The Avs have a timeline on when they even want to consider Landy returning, and that is minimally a year from when he had his recent surgery which was May of 2023. So a round 1, game 1 return will not happen. Round 2? Maybe. But is it even worth it?
    Second was Logan O'Connor. LOC has been out recently with a lower body injury. We know now that it was hip related and he will have surgery to fix the issue. It will also keep him out of the rest of the season and playoffs.
    Finally, while we didn't get an update on Avs prospect Nikolai Kovalenko we know he finished his KHL career being helped off the ice after taking a hit with only minutes left in his season. Now we wait to see how severe it is.

      I agree I would rather give landy time to fully recover and not rush him and end his career for real. If kovalenko gets healthy our line up will be pretty deep even without landy and LOC
      lehky - mack - mikko
      drouin - mits - nichuskin
      wood - colton - kovalenko (parise)
      duhaime,cogliano, kiviranta, trenin, wagner, olofsson
      that's pretty deep line up with a lot of options.
      now it makes so much more sense they got duhaime and trenin

    Important topic well-covered today but hey now a little surprised you boys didn't talk much about Friday's win, squeaker or not. Val returns after two months, gets the winning goal from his office (wow welcome back!), and Georgie had a slew of great saves, including a penalty shot - and let us note that he's now in the Avs top 10 in SV% and wins, and sixth in shutouts.

    31:46 I fully expected that to be an odd game with four guys that hadn’t played a game with this team and another who had been out over two months. Add in that one of those four guys was playing a team that 24 hours ago, he was a part of and it was just weird. When they interviewed Duhaime at one of the intermissions, he looked and sounded like he wanted to be anywhere else but in that arena. Great getting guys at the deadline but it takes a bit for them to build chemistry as it’s not like NHL on the PlayStation where you just plug and play. First road trip I’ve been excited for as it gives the guys a chance to really get to know each other and bond a little and it’s not east, LOL

    Really stinks about LOC. He was having such a stellar year and has made himself really important to this team. I'm glad the Avs loaded up on forwards to absorb the blow, but it'll be hard to find anyone to match his work ethic.
    Much as I'd love to see it and it would be the feel-good story of the year, I cringe a little at the thought of Landy coming back for playoffs. Every time he gets hit you'll hear the entire fan base hold its breath. Maybe he can get a shift in the last minute of the last game of the Finals when it's all wrapped up with the victory in hand. Hehehe.

    The Avs have used LTIR like it is intended to be used. Landy has been out for two seasons and the league wants to provide cap relief for a team that has somebody out like that. They don’t want a team to have $7mil of cap space eaten up for a guy that is out multiple years.

  • @giacintomatera9345
    @giacintomatera9345 Před měsícem +1

    I believe if Landy comes back in the playoffs,, he will be back in the bottom 6 ,,, if he can just do that and play 10 to 12 mins , imagine the boost you’ll get from that? PS I’m absolutely convinced that the Avs won’t bring him back if he’s not ready

  • @182mattyboy
    @182mattyboy Před měsícem +3

    We would all love the fairy tale story of Landy scoring the GWG in Game 7 of the finals!!! But I want to see Landy play for years not weeks. He’s got 5 years on a contract, if he’s still playing I put money on he’ll stay in Colorado. He COULD have another 8-9 years of hockey in him.
    If he comes back in the playoffs I’m going to panic anytime he gets hit etc.
    Few more months rest for plenty of years of hockey that’s a good trade.
    I’m sure Landy will make the right decision either way

  • @TheRabidfan

    The easiest way to answer the Landy in the playoffs question: who on the current roster could he possibly outperform to replace?

  • @chemguy5468
    @chemguy5468 Před měsícem

    I've considered Landy all but retired since they shut down his return last year. I said it before and I'll day it again, two years off for anyone is hard to come back from and at 31 it's going to be really hard. Even if he does make it back for the playoffs, is he going to be a liability or is he going to play macdermid minutes?

  • @ericksonjustinAK
    @ericksonjustinAK Před měsícem

    I think it is very valid to be skeptical that Gabe will ever play again and that has nothing to do with what Bednar said recently. Backs and knees are bad things to injure so bad it requires multiple surgeries. Those injuries end careers for roofers, plumbers, mechanics, etc, not just for top level pro athletes that have to have the highest levels of physical ability and condition on planet Earth.

  • @Lesverts
    @Lesverts Před měsícem

    Forsberg came back after a year off and one hell of an injury recovery one year for the playoffs. 3/4 of Landeskog is better than any of the bottom 6 options. Using him in a return in sheltered minutes and PP would be enough of a difference maker to make Colorado an even horse to emerge from the Central.

    • @LockedOnAvalanche
      @LockedOnAvalanche  Před měsícem +1

      For me it's beyond using him in a limited role. It's are you doing more damage to a guy who's nursed an injury for two years with the timing being he's only been 100% for a short period before he plays again. Let him be 100% for a long stretch and see what the start of a new season brings for him

    • @onyxstark9223
      @onyxstark9223 Před měsícem

      He’s had the injury since 2020. It’s the skate blade cut he got from Makar, so he’s been nursing this injury for going what will be four years.

    I mean, everything Bednar says right now about Landeskog is completely meaningless in my opinion.
    No matter what the actual timeline gor Landeskog is, I doubt Bednar would disclose it to the media at this point.
    I don't think Landeskog will return in a later round because that would mean he just got back to be able to play, but I would also not be shocked if he's already further ahead in his recovery as the Avs want us to know and is ready to suit up for round 1 game 1.

  • @TJDavidson87
    @TJDavidson87 Před měsícem +3

    On Landy - I don't disagree, I think he gives it more time, but nobody is forcing him to do anything. We keep saying "give him" and "let him" as if someone is forcing his decisions. He knows his body best, he can make that call.

    I'm not a doctor, and I'm not landy...and if they think he is ready, and he feels ready, then he should jump in. If we don't see him this year I'm good with that, but the risk is going to be there no matter when he returns

    Why do fans think any human being would be prepared for playoff physicality after 2 years. My opinion but his career will end as a quiet ember, similar to forsbergs career. Still a lot to be proud of! Not being mean about it I love landy - but we gotta accept that his return is a long ways out if anything.

  • @ryanjacob3338
    @ryanjacob3338 Před měsícem

    No way, way off base. If Landy comes back, the question will be why not instead of why. No one expects him to waltz in and play elite playoff hockey. He'd come in early second round or whatever, and play a handful of minutes, play a handful of minutes a couple games later, and then you go from there. I don't think they bring him back if health is an issue, and I don't think we expect much. Maybe hoping by mid CF into the SCF that he can do like 12 minutes a game in the top 6 and on the PP. But even bottom 6 is fine. You don't not play anyone because of fear for their health. Nevermind Landy. He'd hit you. He should hit you. :P
