  • Time for some more maintenance on the Jeep Liberty CRD. The serpentine belt was ready for a change and it gives me the chance to show you the fan shroud mod that I did that makes it way easier to change. It also helps with working on various other things too. A great tool for assisting in changing the serp belt will also be shown It was also time to change the fuel filter. I'll show how that's done as well as how to bleed the air out of the filter. Enjoy!

I use a long clear rubber line into a bottle to bleed the filter head. This way I can cycle the key solo with no mess. Or you can use a brake bleeder setup as well to utilize the rubber line and catchment system. Highly recommend the lift pump to an CRD owner! Smoother motor, added mpg, and in all honesty if you ever drove around with the MAF unplugged to bypass the egr, well that's what adding this pump makes the Jeep feel like but with the MAF still plugged in. Another great mod is the FF dynamic fan. These two combined gave me 4-6 mpg gain.

What is a FF dynamic fan?

I attached a clear hose too when I am bleeding my fuel filter to catch the diesel instead of letting it spill all over the engine which is messy and dangerous because it is flammable at high heat.

@@munchichi8 creates more cooling in my opinion, opens up the engine bay, and gives back some HP, as it's electric instead of belt driven.

That’s a neat idea for the fan cowl. I’m currently trying to replace mine and it’s torture 😵‍💫

Which of the two top connectors is the heater (?) connector?

Do you think you'd be able to do the timing belt without taking the entire front end off with this fan mod?

Funny enough, I had it apart fairly recently because the crank pulley failed and I was chasing the noise it was making. Thank goodness it wasn't under the timing cover, that was surely the next step. I'd say there is plenty of clearance to do the timing belt change with the fan shroud removed.

Yes, I concur also. Witnessed timing belt changed by a specialist traveler mechanic, with a similar fan mod (lower portion removal.)

Hi what size nut/bolt is the tensioner please

It would have been easier just to unbolt the whole filter head then visually see what to unplug.

Before the Mod, do you need to remove the fan in order to get the Shroud off? I need to replace the serpentine belt on mine. Also when its cut in half does it rattle around much?

Yes you will need to remove the fan to pull the shroud out. It doesn't rattle or make any noise. It still has a bolt holding in either side and with three zip ties on top it's solid.

I did mine without removing the shroud, though it looked like I tried to slit my wrists with a plastic knife for a few weeks.

Brutal. I will say, this Jeep has done that to me a few times. "Tight engine compartment" is an understatement

Please help me with mine 😵‍💫. I am in the same spot as you are and I’m not sure how to install it.
