  • This was the first time I've done a fuel filter change on my Jeep Liberty CRD. I've owned my CRD for only 11,000 miles but was starting to notice a loss in power at highway passing speeds.

    Pull the fuse for the fuel pump and start your jeep. It'll die off shortly after starting as the fuel is used up and then the filter will be empty.

    I've been changing my fuel filter maybe 4-5 times and just remove sensor, fill filter with Fuel(I've been using sea foam) replace and usually works without bleeding/pumping). No need to remove housing.

      @@Str8sixfan I’m serious, if your other videos are this detailed and clear, your channel is going to be a big hit. The confidence this gave me was a real boost. I did my fuel filter today for the first time, never did I know there was a primer for bleeding the air. Amazing. So you’ve saved me..::.hmmm about a hundred bucks I think. I appreciate that. All the best to you.

    • @Str8sixfan
      @Str8sixfan  Před 2 lety

      Funniest part about this video is this. 1) it's pretty old, and I don't know that my channel has turned out to be a big hit since (though this is probably my #2 or #3 all time video). 2) at that time CZcams had thresholds you had to be at in order to upload past a 15min video. This video warranted needing to be longer than 15min so I could show the actual bleeder working. Now that I'm bigger (and think CZcams lifted the rule anyway) I try so hard to make videos not be any longer than 15min, unless they need to be. This one just needed to be born a few months later, when I could make it longer!

    9:50 crack open purge with 7/16. CLOSE. Pump manual pressure valve. Stop pumping. Open purge, release air. Repeat till fuel flows easy when opening (not spits or sputters out). I like to lay a shop towel on motel where fuel will spit and use rag in hand to catch fuel when cracking bleeder. And another tip, when you pull filter out have a two liter with top 1/4 cut off and just unscrew and tip into catch cup. Then remove sensor. Over 200 doing every 20k never an issue for me. Great video. I watched cause I forgot wrench size, thought was metric lol, go figure. Thanks for help.

    Nice pointers! Thanks for taking the time and effort to show us. Only tip I would add is to oil the seal surfaces first, attach the water sensor to the bottom of the filter, then fill the filter with diesel fuel before attaching it to the housing. One thing I might add is that the water sensor is pigtailed too the other two sensors and you can pull the wires up and out of the hood to negate the fuel spilling in the engine area. good vid... fuel spill is a minor point, diesel is not that flammable like gasoline.. I would recommend removing the NEGATIVE terminal, that way if you accidentally hit a wrench on the car while loosening, you won't get arc and spark... as long as any terminal is disconnected (and not touching the terminal) the battery is fully removed from the electrical system.

    • @Str8sixfan
      @Str8sixfan  Před 6 lety +1

      I always make sure that the removed terminal is touching the plastic base of the battery. I've gotten this reply a few times. I guess this is the direction I will head in the future, but I figured you could also ground out the circuit by touching anything to metal too. I suppose removing the battery in its entirety ends all of that discussion. Thanks for dropping by.

    I recommend removing the water in fuel sensor and not twisting the wire then you can remove filter over a bucket etc and not spill Fuel. Fill the new filter with clean diesel before replacing it. All the original nuts etc are metric so to remove the fuel filter head its a 13mm size but 1/2 inch will also work.
    To make it much easier in future you can buy a 3/8 brass splicer at lowes etc for around $7 and add a couple of feet more fuel hose from tank hose that way you can pull whole filter head up further to easily get the sensor off and install the new filter in vertical position then reattach the filter head to firewall.
