Just change the battery on my 2020 ram. Finally went out after 4 years. Thank you for the help
Thanks for the video - I really appreciate you citing the socket sizes! Had to swap mine outside in -10 degree temps, so having tools and steps well in hand before going out was a time and frustration saver!
From a safety standpoint the positive cable should be connected first. That way if you should accidentally short the wrench to ground nothing will happen. With the negative cable connected first if you accidentally short the wrench to ground, you could potentially get burned and possibly blow up the battery.
My battery died in 2 years on my 2020. Heated seats, dash cam , aftermarket security system and power running boards.
Now I have a noco Gen 5x on board charger. I plug the truck up once a month and keep the new AGM battery fully charged to extend the life.
Thank you for posting a great video!! Recently, I changed the battery in my 2017 Ram. It took about 2 or 3 weeks for the bugs to work out. Sometimes the radio would just come on. Sometimes, the fan for the heater/AC would just randomly increase or decrease. Also, the remote start wouldn't always work. Now after about 2 months, everything seems to work just fine. I didn't think it would take a few weeks for the bugs to work out after the computer booted back up, but it did. So if anyone else has this problem, relax. It'll fix itself over time.
Ya, my radio hasn’t came on yet. Says ‘Update failed, reconnect usb device.’ What did yours say?
@@johnduvall3432 Mine didn't say anything. Give it some time. The computer has to reboot and it could take a couple weeks for everything to work itself out.
@@johnduvall3432 It may have lost the Bluetooth ability, you could try to reconnect it yourself.
I just had the battery on my 2019 finally die. After shopping around, I found the Everstart Platinum H8 AGM battery at Walmart for $180. Everyone else is around $250 by me. Hopefully that helps!
Same truck here. Same issues. I just bought it 2 1/2 years ago. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning. Battery should be covered under warranty. Save myself a couple hundred dollars. Thankfully, I had bought the Noco gbx155 jump box on Black Friday a couple weeks back. Very thankful to have that. But I am very surprised to see a battery with bad cells so quickly. I also have a check engine light on.
It’s safer to just check running alternator voltage directly across battery terminals. 😊
Great video. About to head to the store to get a new battery for my 2020... I really appreciate the tip about the socket size!
Thanks. For the tutorial.
Thank you! My 2019 big horn is giving me the same issue and same code, I’ll change the battery and delete the code
My 2019 limited just did the same thing, starter was replaced a year ago. Too many electronics on cars these days so the 5 year life span is no more lol
Mine died this morning..
@@Bagel_Biscuit its frustrating, no warning signs at all, just dead. not to mention the past year i would get random warnings like power steering, trailer brake, collision sensors, stabilitrak and then my engine light would be on for a day or two then be off. also my remote start works when it wants. ill start it then it shuts off after 60 seconds and has a error message saying remote start disabled. im selling it and going back to GM lol
I haven't had one problem with mine with this being its first. My remote starter works great. I have 38k on it now. 2019 Ram. Got it June 29th 2019.
Great Video.. I just wanted to mention AWSOME c8.. I have a C8 and a ram 1500 Laramie!!! Great choices buddy. Side question.. Would you change the hoses on the ram at a radiator flush?? mine is a 2019 and the hoses just have dirt on them (kinda caked in) but im at 98k miles so I was pondering just changing it all .
Awesome video, I seen a video where a guy had a 2019 ram rebel 1500. He said dropped a H8 in and said it fits perfect. I was curious do you think a 2020 ram 1500 bighorn has the same battery compartment as the 2019 ram rebel? Jus thought I'd get little bigger battery if it works. Thanks
I have a 2022 ram trx and my battery had the same issue, 9 months and 5k miles. Odd to get a defective battery so soon. Was on a trip and needed a jump every time to start. Dealer didn't want me to buy an after market battery and diy for some reason. I know it's covered under warranty but when on a trip, it's tough. It also gave me a check engine light, limited the performance and gave me an eobd / injection system failure code as well. Sitting at the dealer now.
My TRX is a little over 2 years old now (May 2021) and recently I tried to leave somewhere after the truck has been sitting for 9-ish hours and I noticed it started really slow, but it did start. It started fine after that but I noticed the voltage meter on the infotainment screen was always reading 11.9 or 12.0, which is pretty much dead for a car battery. I'm not sure how accurate it is, though. It would always start fine, though.
Then I had it on for a sec and I saw the voltage drop from 11.9 to 9.7 in a split second. I let it sit for the night and came back and surprisingly enough it started, but barely (which is why I'm not sure if the gauge is accurate or if this starter just works really well on such a low voltage).
Then a few days ago, I tried to start it after sitting for 7 hours and it cranked briefly but then stopped. I tried again, same thing. I thought it would've been the first time it wouldn't start, and checked the voltage meter and it said 9.6V. I turned off the radio (it's been in accessory or RUN for a minute now) and I tried to start again, and it turned over super slowly but did fire up! I was extremely impressed and happy I didn't need my portable jumper, even though I did have it in the truck because I expected I'd need it one of these days.
I almost never run anything off the battery and always have the engine on so the fact it's dead after 2 years is crazy. Idk if it's the same battery as in the States as I'm in Europe but I read a lot of people's TRX battery died within 6 months to a year on the TRX forum. I'm gonna go downstairs now to try and install a new battery and hope that solves it, and not that I have a drain or something.
Thx sir
Hey thanks for your detailed video . My question is should I get an agm battery or regular? Someone from Walmart said that the ram do not recommend agm. Any response will be appreciated
The AGM battery, from my non-mechanic mind, was designed with the idea that it would not release gasses into the cab...for those vehicles that store the battery inside the cab. Since the ram 1500 has a battery in the engine compartment, one would not need to worry about that. But... If you want a Corvette, like this person does, you would definitely want an AGM battery. I don't really know of any significant advantage to have an AGM over the other. Again, I'm not a mechanic and I'm not an expert. But I do read Google! 😅😂😅
Thanks. I wonder what the blanket is for..........😂😂😂
allways tighten positive cable before installing neg cable
Why is there no like button? Only dislike... I liked the video
Could have cleaned connections while battery was out and should have checked voltage and charged new battery before install just so you know the new battery is a good one…
hey how the battery doing is it still good. next time use the ecu memory saver it will save your codes when you remove your battery.
I've heard there is another behind the back seat is that true?
No battery there
Any word on the the battery? I have a 2020 dt and a dead battery. 15k miles. Don’t drive it much, sometimes don’t start it for 7-9 days at a time. Curious if you are in similar situation and if new battery was a fix. Also with the scan tool, did you reset the codes with the old batt installed or the new one? Thanks for your time…..to anyone that responds..
Yes I reset the codes with the old battery installed. I didn’t start it again tho. Waited til I put the new battery in. No new codes came up. The battery was definitely the culprit and and haven’t had any issues since. Hope that helps! Thx for watching
Just had another thought too. You probably don’t even have to reset the codes. If you put the new battery in and run the truck for a while I bet the computer would reset them automatically
Thx , I appreciate the feedback
I bought a battery at advantage battery for $95 if you have one in your area. I buy all my batteries there.
Do these trucks take AGM batteries
Yes.
Thank you for your answer
Battery just died on me. After replacing the battery the check engine light came on. The truck seems to be running ok but I will read the codes and reset.
I have the same issue. Did it run fine after resetting? I can’t find anything else wrong and was thinking the same thing. Reset and see if it comes back on after reading codes
Same thing but the light went off after driving for a few miles. Had it checked, no codes.
I have a P0027 code for an exhaust valve control should I just reset? It only came on after the battery swap
Do we need to do anything else after replacing battery? It should be a simple plug and play and everything should work as normal. Don’t need to recalibrate anything?
You must take your 5 Gen ram to the dealer to be reprogrammed after every battery change. Or you will get hard shifts and error codes on the ecu
My 2019 5th gen Ram I just replaced (my second!) the totally dead Mopar battery with an AGM. Had a check engine light for a while but after driving it for a few miles it went away. Had it checked for codes and there were none. Everything seems to be working well. Battery change was very simple except for the weight of the new battery and the fact that I could not lower my 2019 Limited with no power...
Did you have to reset the battery charging system? AGM batteries charge at a lower voltage and the system must be told what battery is installed is what I heard. Also, Costco prices on batteries are expensive right now. Lead Acid Kirkland brand is 199.99 and AGM is 299.99. That is a massive price increase in short time since you recorded this video.
Thx for watching. I didn’t have. reset anything after the battery was installed. The computer took care of everything. Had the scanner handy just in case. Yeah the prices of everything is crazy right now. Just shop around, maybe you could find a deal somewhere
