- The RAM 1500 has a 48V starter motor and 48V lithium battery on board. It’s there to give additional 150Nm of torque. As a result there is NO 12V alternator on board…. BUT there is a 3,000W 48V to 12V converter. We estimate we can pull up to 2,700W from this if we tune Scotty up higher. That’s 210A at 12.8V. In this video you are seeing 2,100W at idle. For 1500 owners this is a game changer. For Tony of Melbourne, he has decked out the 1500 with a tonneau cover. Under this will be a full 48V system and Scotty. That will be in the next video! #howgoodsthat #traveltheworld #withoutconsumingtheearth #ram1500 #victronenergy #victronenergy #RAM2500 #bossaluminium #48v #scotty

What does "the voltages arn't quite right" mean in detail? Why can't you charge @ 48 volts? I'd like to make a generator from one of these 48V alternators. Great video!
The 48v in the RAM is 1.2v higher and we don’t want to mess with it.
Great video. Looked all over for this info. Will my 48v etorq generator power my trailers 2 100ah lithium batteries without stress to the generator?
Thanks for the info, thats great
so any word from RAM if they will warrant their 48V to 12V DCDC with such a high continuous auxiliary load?
No but We dont have any concerns as we know the spec of their 48-12 DC DC and we are within spec.
So does the RAM pump out amps via its DC to DC without knowing whether it is charging its own battery or your Lithiums.?
Power is driven by the demand side, which is this case is Scotty. We were unsure if the 48V generator in the Ram (on the ring housing under) PLUS the 48-12V DC DC could meet the stated load of 3,000W. Plus the voltages at the 12V side are unusual... a flat 13.4 spiking up when braking on regen mode... The only way to know was to test. This scotty was not wound up to the max, I had is set at 170A 12V side and the result shows we could wind up to nearly the full 3000W. This is the advantages of digital technology...
Need a video to replace this Generator. It's a pain
Tricky to give you a video....
The only pain on these is the hydraulic belt tensioner that needs a lot of steady force to collapse. You'll need a long breaker bar and slowly release it after removing the belt. If you slip and the tensioner slams it'll blow itself apart
Don’t make a video if you aren’t going to explain anything.
Noted.
