we just had this rodeo at my place. My dad has a 2017 with the CK engine light on the last 3 years he's paid what the law requires to the dealer!!!! The dealer where he bought the truck and it is under warranty but they say they cannot fix it because they don't know what it is so state law says he has to pay $500 and they will Waiver the vehicle... That is Pennsylvania. In March he buys another Dodge truck and the CK engine light is on on that one. Saturday afternoon he came here and I proved to him they are ripping him off. I put in 107 octane avo gas at the airport where I keep my plane.. He went home light was still on he said to me. Next morning light was out.... He is getting scammed by the dealer... SCAM SCAM SCAM... Its the ethenol in the gas and just recently here they have put stickers on most of the pumps in my area. Don't know about other places but You will see CONTAINS 15% ETHENOL... I am told now Super unleaded can contain up to 25% Ethenol. that can't be good for thee Evap..

I'm on my 3rd Ram. I've had a 2nd gen, 3rd gen, and 4th gen. They've all been really good trucks. The only issue I've ever had is with my 4th gen when the cab vents (2 of them, about 6x6 inches each, located between the back of the cab and the bed) disintegrated and let water stream right into the cab every time it rained. The dealer wanted over $1000 to fix it because they said the bed had to be removed to access the filters (which are literally $8 each, by the way). So, I spent $100 on a Milwaukee electric ratchet, pulled the rear seat, pulled the rear cab panel, and there were the 2 filters. Pulled the old ones, put the new ones in, and put everything back together. Took about 30 minutes total. Literally spent a tenth of what the dealer wanted (before tax, etc.) and didn't have to remove the bed.
I've owned trucks from each of the Big 3. They've each been really good in their own way, and none of them ever let me down. But every time I went to the dealer, regardless of the company, I got ripped off. It's what dealers do and that's why people hate them so much. They will lie, cheat, and steal, and then laugh at you for being foolish enough to come onto their lot. It's not just Chrysler. It's all of them. I'm not at all surprised they locked OBD2 access, since gaining access is means you have to go back to the dealer (or a certified mechanic) and give them more money. I'm just surprised more companies DON'T do that. You're right, it's shady business practice, but nobody is going to hold them accountable.
Now, you mentioned Honda and Toyota (I think) in this video as companies who don't do that sort of thing with the OBD2 access. My parents are lifelong Toyota fans. Literally won't drive anything else. And I've seen those cars fall apart right out from under them. I've also seen the Toyota dealer screw them so bad my father had to physically stop my mother from throwing a brick through the showroom window. So, to be fair, I think it's safe to say that ALL dealers are shady and should not be trusted, and ALL cars will have recalls and issues here and there, so it's best to just pick your flavor and be as happy as you can with it. We're all in the same boat.

There's defintely a market for small trucks as most people who own trucks never tow or haul anything. I see so many of these f250 or 2500 series trucks, lift kits, oversized off road tires, and i bet most of them have never left pavement. Or had more than set of golf clubs in the bed. Status symbol to own a truck now because of how overpriced they are. The only people buying them new , could just as easily buy a mercedes or bmw. People who actually need trucks just want a bare-bones 2 door , 8ft bed. that doesn't even appear to be an option anymore.

I had a 2019 ram fifth generation I just got rid of it in July. It had 169K on it. I’ve been a Mopar guy for a while, but it was time for something else. I constantly had to fix it I went through three radiators, three water pumps two starters, leaky back window exhaust manifold. Bolts are broken no heat on the driver side, and I kept up with the truck changing oil all the fluids and everything but it was time to say goodbye they just don’t make anything last anymore. It’s sad, it’s one thing if I didn’t take care of the truck but I own my own landscape business so I have to take care of it so I got a 2015 Nissan titan. I hope I have better luck.

Scotty, don't forget one of the biggest problems with Dodge. All 3rd gen rams have the fuel pump relay integrated into the fuse box. If the relay goes bad, and it will (my 2012 2500 went bad and I'm in Fl), you got to replace the entire fuse box. Which is very expensive. But there is a work around for that using verticalvisions tipm plug in relay that uses a spare relay and wiring in the box to restore it without changing the fuse box. Great solution.
Then there is the cam shaft and lifter problem with all the Hemi's with the active fuel management requiring the heads to be rebuilt due to worn out lifters, camshaft, and valves. Luckily, I don't have that on my Hemi.

Had '05 Ram 2500 Cummins diesel. Truck had under 30K on it when the A/C compressor clutch went down. You had to buy a whole new compressor to repair/replace a stupid comp clutch. Had the 6 disk radio go bad. Radio put out nothing but a strange hum noise on AM/FM bands, yet played perfect sound for the CD player. Had a factory radiator lower hose clamp snap and caused a major coolant leak in the Winter. It was never touched for any reason. Just as it came upon 30K, it was on a road with a few bumps. Suddenly the fuel gauge went crazy bouncing around. The fuel gauge float just malfunctioned without any warning. Also had several recalls for defects from the factory that had to be done at the dealer. Truck was treated like a baby, had 30K miles and started with strange expensive issues that should never had happened. The engine ran strong and had fairly decent MPG. It had a very good reliable 6 spd heavy duty manual trans that was flawless! I believe a manual trans is no longer available in any pickups or vans, unless it is a heavy duty truck used in commercial business. The vehicle manufacturers are all greedy and work to take every penny possible from the buyers while the makers provide low quality "disposable" vehicles that are in constant need of repairs. The governments have mandated complex emission control systems on every vehicle. The politicians are sold gimmick ideas for use on vehicles then these parts are made to substandard quality, then leaving buyers responsible for expensive replacement parts! The airbag fiasco is another prime example of government mandates that cost consumers billions of dollars and/or the lives of vehicle owner/ occupants!

Scammy company. Stellantis should go out of business.
All automakers know VERY well how to make a car that lasts. They’ve been made for over 100 years now.
There is a reason why certain carmakers’ cars break more often than others….

My question is what year? I'm finding conflicting info on that. Hoping my '17 isn't included if this is true because I was thinking about buying a decent scan tool as I approach 100,000 miles. The good thing is I haven't needed one yet, so the truck has been good to me.

I'm able to get the codes with Tazer DT. Also you can get your pin code from the dealer and there are after market tools to retrieve it.

My neighbors 2023 Toyota Tundra was nothing but problems...Dealer has it still,3 weeks and no news when it will be ready! It left him stranded 3 times in 5,500 miles..
He needs a truck for work and the dealer gave him a Corolla loaner,go figure they said they dont have loaner trucks!!
I own a small used car dealer and he is driving a 2014 Dodge RAM 1500 5.7 Hemi with 170,000 miles, for 3 weeks he drove it and he says the truck is really good! He called a Chrysler dealer and is getting a new 2023 RAM 1500 Classic Night CrewCab Hemi (he wanted a silver one and they needed to locate one,3 days its here).
He called the Toyota dealer telling them he wants to pick up his Toyota,Toyota said it isnt running lol..He has enough money to purchase(as he did) the 2023 RAM outright and wait for his Tundra to be back home,to sell it.
I loaned him the RAM free of charge and it was my only truck I had.I specialize in classic cars and do internet sales and appointment only,I also buy newer cars usually 10 or so in my secured lot, most of them are stored in the warehouse with the classic cars..
Toyota's are oil burners their cars 4 cyl 2012-up usually have bad piston rings and need rebuilds after 1,000 miles on up! Yes new ones have issues even today!

My brother had a new '18 Ram 1,500. He takes care of his stuff and still spent thousands keeping it going. Four wheel drive went out, during the winter, exhaust manifolds cracked, wiring issues. When it worked it was a nice truck. Hus new truck is a Chevy, we'll see.

I'm on my second RAM & most of my family drive Mopar products and they've been great vehicles. I think most of the car manufactures are limiting how much you can work on your vehicle.

I’m happy with my 2017 Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 and my 2021 Ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 Laramie. Zero problems. I get 21 MPG highway in my 2021…going 75-80 MPH.
