- Battery Replacement on a 2019 Ram Big Horn 5.7L Hemi you need to keep the ECM/Computer on a 12 volt constant to keep the computer from loosing it’s memory. I used an old better from another car I am working on with jumper cables. The battery I used is an H7 Duralast Gold from AutoZone with a 3 year warranty you’ll need a 10 mm socket and extension for both battery terminals and the battery hold down. This job is actually very easy and anyone can do it just pay close attention and you’ll do just fine this message will self-destruct in 15 seconds.
hey brother its me again thanks on your tips on how to change that battery.especially that hold down bracket.i put my on the flip side...but it held😄😄👍.anyway me and the fella's on the "RamForum"were having trouble with the constant dead battery on our5th gen rams.when we went to replace them again we used"AGM H8"the battery that came stock was to small to run all those "Electronics"in the truck.they tray believe it or not fits perfect 😲!but we can no longer use the cover(To small)..just a little tip for the near future.got it at costco for just $10.00 more😉👍❗....P,s im a veteran to👍❗
I actually got a deal on a Ram 2500 I couldn’t pass up so I made the upgrade. I will keep that in mind if I have any more issues.
you do not have to do this. after connecting the batter it takes about 30-60 minutes for all your features and stuff to come back once the computer re reads everything.
I appreciate this. I watched another video and the guy never mentioned what size sockets 😅
The truck did reset all warning lights were off after about 30 min.
Thanks. I was trying to learn how the battery was held down and was puzzled by that stopper thing on the rear and missed the hold down under the felt cozy. I used one of those $6 "code saver OBD" things connected to an old motorcycle battery and it seemed to work OK, but the alligator clips are very, very weak so I suggest some tape or rubber bands to make sure they behave. My Ram is a '19 Longhorn eTorque, and the battery has been bad since the truck was new, so I had to carry a jumper box. Dealer said it was AOK. I also noticed that the dashboard battery gauge is set to never go under 12V.
Your controllers (ecm, bcm, etc) won’t lose anything crucial if you disconnect all power to a truck. That’s the whole point of memory chips, think of SD cards or USB drives. At worst you’d lose driver profiles for the seat or radio settings.
I'm terribly sorry bud but no, when the battery is removed the security system triggers and half the time the vehicle no longer starts, the other half the time everything that goes through the infotainment will stop working until everything is reprogrammed or the special code is put into the info system
Raider did you fix the problem
@@raiderjohn9407 We will have agree to disagree on this. I have 2019 Ram 2500 and that has not been my experience. I've also have used Ram for company trucks.
What size batter did it take? I'm told the RAm comes with an H7 size but some are H8 size. Just curious as I was not sure if the battery blanket would fit over the H8
It was the H7 which was recommended from the factory I honestly don’t know if the blanket would fit over an H8
TrekNit1 Wish i watch this before hand. 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. I discounnect my battery for installing th eMopar Cold air Intake as per the Instruction . Reconnected everything started truck no cameras. drove down the rad for 5 mins and then all of the sudden. Anti-brake, Cruise control, fwd/rear warning alerts, 4 wheel drive, All of these are indicated on my instrument cluster. after driving for 2 hours and i got home disconnect Neg. let it set for 30 Mins and tried it again. all lights off camera is back but after 30 min all the instrument cautions came back. stop at auto zone and use the basic scan tool no codes found. I saw some scan tool does a battery reset. could this fix my problem. what do you think?
If you still having issues you might have to go to the dealer or a shop that deals with trucks and have them reset the computer. The scan tool Autozone has won’t do that. Let me know how you make out. Good Luck
Wouldn't it have been easier to have the engine running which would feed power to the computer via the alternator which is what it runs off if during regular driving
I replace the batter and i did lose my satellite xm radio thing. But idc since i dont use it. My problem is that i replace the battery because it died on me when i took it for a trip and even after replacing it the volts keep going down even when the truck is running. Could it be for sure the alternator? Bc the volts slowly keep going down every time i use the truck.
That def sounds like the Alternator has gone bad if you can get the truck to a store like Auto Zone they can test it to let you know for sure.
@@TrekNit1 i actually did that and they said it was fine but i just dont think it is so i might just end up replacing the alternator bc the battery voltage keeps dropping every time like i mentioned, it never stays at a number where it wont go below.
There is a possibility of a bad ground or cells in the battery have gone bad. Good luck 🍀
hey guy what is that little tab that on top of the battery cable?🤔❓.i have it on my 2019.i thought it was to put your jumper cable clap to..anyone knows🤔❓
It’s just an extension piece for to assist with jump starting
You know you broke the circuit when you disconnect the ground jumper cable when connecting the positive terminal!!!
true that !!!
What’s the average voltage do you get after using the truck all day ?
If I remember correctly it was right around 14V
Funny comments lol😅 good stuff
First off it’s 2022 why do people record in horizontal mode ? Your cutting off your frame. Second you can just take the battery out and switch it . You don’t need life support at all I just did mine while stranded on the beach . Battery tray bolt is 10MM socket ….. enjoy
You should have bought a H8 AGM, I tossed the battery in my new Ram and put in the H8, All you need to do is take out the small plastic clip at the very right end. That clip is the sizer for H7 remove it and it becomes the H8 box.
So I have a 2019 limited ram 1500 and my battery is dead for the past week I been jumping it everyday for work. 2 years is that really all they last smh.
@@jorangel87 holy shit, I'm nearing my 3rd year in September and mine is dead and having to be jumped. I searched this vid to find the size of the nut
@@jorangel87 my 2019 just died today 😢
@@evo1video get an agm
@@jorangel87 funny thing is it just died here at Costco. Just bought a new battery over 200 for the agm battery.

It seems to be, I thought it was because I had an aftermarket remote starter installed. Since following the forums and some voltage tracing I did find it was the battery. Others have suggested the H8 battery as a replacement.
@@TrekNit1 I replaced it with an AGM interstate a few days ago no problems now. It’s sad it still under warranty and they told me it’s a consumeable product and unfortunately even though it only been 2 years they won’t replace it.
You do not need to keep power to the terminals, I replace my 2029 ram 1500 battery with no problems
Same here
Damn you have a 2029 RAM already????? Big baller!
Crazy thing happen today my battery took shit on me. Payed 300 for new battery and can someone tell me why it won’t charge its at 11.9 volt check engine light is on.
Sounds like the alternator isn’t charging the battery so good chance you alt is bad which caused you original battery drain.
Didn’t had to have the spare battery. Just swap out the old battery with the new and let the truck sleep through 3 circle and DONE..
What sort of tomfoolery is this? Just disconnect and replace. 🙄 you gain nothing but going through that mess with a charger. 🤦🏼♂️
Okay, if you have a rachet, why are you removing it like a wrench? rest of the video is good, but maybe learn how wrenches work. Just saying.
