2019 Ram Big Problems After Disconnecting The Battery

  • So during the last video shoot I disconnected the battery on the 2019 Ram Rebel as part of the Mopar led bed light installation video and well after reconnecting the negative terminal the truck had defaulted to a setting that deleted the heated seats and steering wheel also deleted the back up camera and worse yet the A/c wouldn't work, I thought for sure my truck had to go to the dealer but I solved the problem and I let you know the whole story in this video, oh yeah we burn some rubber at the end. Enjoy.

    Just experienced this same issue on my 2020 Ram 1500 Limited when I disconnected my negative terminal. Just like everyone else, I was freaking out. I had the same issue with a 2019 RAM 1500. When I contacted Uconnect customer service, they mention that it is normal and that it takes 3 - 5 ignition cycles or a specific amount of time for the Uconnect to use the cellular radio to obtain the update needed to get the truck settings back. FYI for future viewers.

    gr8 vids---- I have had this problem on a couple of different costumers units. In both times the battery had ran down a bit before the ground cable { and I emphasize ground} was removed. When work was done the ground hooked up and all seemed OK. Next day the customer came back complaining some of the BCM controlled items were not working. We disconnected the ground and charged the battery to full 12volts , load tested it and reinstalled the ground . Started the vehicle , let it run for a half hour or so and everything was good. We believe to make sure the battery is fully charged before hooking the ground

    LOL, I just found your video - because the same thing happened to me recently! I went out to drive my truck and heard a click and a speaker pop and ... nothing. Battery was so dead that the electronics stopped about 1 minute later. No door locks, no power running boards, nothing on the dash. Dead. Jumped it after connecting to my wife's car and waiting 5-10 minutes, got it to the dealer: bad battery. Went to leave, no backup camera, no heated/cooled seat controls, like WTF? They used a wireless remote connection to reset the system, but it's good to know that you can just wait it out and it'll fix - thanks! That's an extra bit of "peace of mind". Drive safe & stay healthy!

    I have a '17 ram and replaced the radio with a newer version. All you have to do is turn on the key and let the radio start up and then shut the key off for 10 to 20 minutes and they usually will reset to all your options. there is also a key combo you can you when is gets messed up that does a factory reset and then turn it on, then back off for 10 to 20 minutes and it will reload your options. scared me the first time but did some research and it seem to be how they are set up.

    AS I was I saying every thing on my truck works but when I took the truck to get a smog check it was rejected because when the dealer replaced the defective battery they did not reset the computer. called the dealer they said I could drive the truck about 30 miles at 60mph four times and it would rest it self or pay them $175.00 to hook it up to there computer and they could wind the miles on it that way. SO I drove the truck. then had it tested rejected again.the guy at the test booth said need to run the truck 50 to55mph consistently. do you know any outer way???? or if this going to work. There battery went bad and I have a life time warranty you would think they would had made it right. Help if you can warning for outers.TRUCK IS 2017 HIMMI 5.7 WITH 15,000 i'm 73 when i was 50 I could though 90 lp begs of concrete in the back of a truck now maybe a 5 lp beg or I would be in jail for kicking some ones A## by now. @HammerdownMotorsportsUSA  Před 4 lety

      Yes unfortunately when you replace the battery the short term memory of the truck that sets the monitors in the computer saying they are within specification gets erased, it takes a few drive cycles like going up to operating temp and cooling down overnight and some highway driving to reset everything if you go to autozone or if you get yourself a cheap code reader it will show you when the monitors are set on mine they stop flashing on the display but if you drive it for a few days you should have them all set for smog, and it shouldn't fail just come up untestable and they should retest it for free as part of your initial cost.

    I've always changed my own batteries in my vehicles, but now I'm not sure I want to do this on my '17 Ram. I know I'll freak out if stuff isn't working after I hook it up. I'd hate to take it to a dealer and pay $200 or more for a battery, plus another $80 to have them install it. Good video. What type of camera are you using? Very clear video.

    This happened to me as well. I keep losing the entire screen. It just goes black. Usually comes back on after driving it and letting it sit. It did not this last time. Disco'ed negative terminal for 10 minutes and after reconnect half of my stuff was gone as you describe. I didn't wait and took it to the dealer. They were able to somehow reset it. I find it interesting that the service manager didn't know the data eventually comes back after time. How do you not know this? My screen has gone black again and I have disco'ed the neg terminal again. Waiting to see if everything comes back... Supposedly I'm getting a new radio. There is also another update coming at some point to fix my screen issue but who the hell knows. Very aggravated with this screen. Funny disconnecting the battery , worked well for me , my 2014 ram one morning used the command start only one beep from the truck , went inside says command start disabled , normally start to enable it I turned the key and one click is all I heard , thought it was the starter , but disconnecting the battery for a day , reconnected it today started right up ? must have killed something that was disabling the starting of the vehicle ? If we have to worry about removing the battery from the truck think we are in trouble .

    Steve, Need help Thursday i had Ram dealership add my Magnaflow catback system. no problems after driving after 100 miles . On Friday i decided to Install myself the Hellwig 7883 Rear sway Bar. Then I installed the New Mopar Ram Air flow cold air intake. I Disconnected the battery both Pos and Neg. the only electrical connection was the Maf sensor which plugs into the new exhaust. hook everything back up. First think no cameras at all blue screen for all.i then drove about 3 miles multi message on my dash. rear Stabilize. traction control off cruise off and both front and rear sensor off, and Anti locks brakes outs.. When you shut down the truck everything goes back to normal when starting up again. My sat radio was yesterday working. this morning no sat radio keeps searching , no other indication then drove it about 3 mil everything happen over again. so i was think weird but maybe it was the Hellwig rear sway bar so i put the oem back on. The only reason i was thinking about this is because this is the first indicator i get rear stab. and anti lock brakes. so nothing has change still the same warnings .

    • @HammerdownMotorsportsUSA
      @HammerdownMotorsportsUSA  Před 3 lety

      hmmm yeah that is odd, a sway bar should not affect anything, I think more so it was disconnecting the battery if it is still doing it I would disconnect the negative terminal then wait about 10 to 15 minutes then reconnect it and let the truck sit overnight this will give it time to reboot everything if it is still acting up you may need the dealer to manually reboot it I was able to do this myself with the z automotive tazer DT I have equipped on my truck, hope this helps
