Everybody says she's a blank canvas. I like her the way she is.
All the better then, don't have to put any more $ into it! 😁
@Joseph Babica reminds me of the panheads.
You should definitely replace the seat...
@Joseph Babica Me too! That bike looks great to me, just as it is.
Reminds me a lot of my 95 FXDWG
I just bought a 2023 Softail Standard this year, and I will attest that this bike is one of the nicest softails Harley has ever made. The Milwaukee 8 107 has a ton of power and is nothing short of phenomenal.
I love how Block is CONSTANTLY improving on his video quality 👏 👌
if you're not moving forward you're falling back ✌🏼
Thanks everyone!
Shoot not me I watch this stuff at work, on a gov computer when I go to any higher quality it won't load lmfao. Stupid work computers.
Getting my bike licence in about 5 weeks. I'm super excited, I've never ridden a motorcycle before
Just be careful when you do. Too many crazies out there.
Find a big empty parking lot and have fun.
Welcome to the club. 👍
Precongrats! RSSV
Just like a bicycle that wants to kill you.
@@justinharned2016 Yes, so many motorists that don't look out for motorcycles
Here's my take as a guy approaching 60 years old.... the seat, yeah its not the best by no means..I traded my electraglide in for one of these. It was a 2004 88 inch 5 speed.. At my age, this bike needs no more performance..it very torquey. Its light ( why I traded, my back injury is catching up) and it has plenty of power to get around cars at the drop of a hat. My forward controls are perfect. Ill probably eventually replace the seat, but I found some Basani slip ons ill be putting on. With the daytripper tall back rest, a Bluetooth soundbar installed, and a detachable windshield, my bike is all but complete and trip ready.
I was cruising around yesterday and thought id get into the throttle more than normal....The bike jumped from 70 mph to 110 in no time with more throttle just waiting on me but I backed her down. The bike weighs like 50 or 60 pounds more than a sportster. Blockhead was right when he was talking about the weight difference. Ive only owned dressers and a Heritage before, the ability to move this bike around was a huge selling point for me.. in the next ten years, ill have to move to a tri glide. Its coming I know, but until then, ill be enjoying 2 wheels any way I can. Ride safe fellers!
Oh man I am so excited for this video. I have been considering this bike since the release and I wanted to hear your feedback since I trust it so much. Great job as always blockhead
I have this bike and changing out the seat to a saddleman explorer was a game changer. Old seat had me numb in 10 minutes of riding and feeling like I had to really hang on at freeway speeds. All kinds of plans as time and budget allow. Love this bike (upgraded from an 883)!
Love the Soft-Tails, and love the great videos! Always something new and improved in the content and quality. Keep up the great work BlockHead, love the channel.
Yes!!! Exactly the video I was waiting for!!! Please buy it and customize it. I love having morning coffee and checking your videos before I start work.
Just sat on this bike for like 30m, I'm in love! Definitely a no.1 contender for my first bike! 😁👌🏽
Man this standard has really grown on me. I really like the chrome! Which is surprising to me. Love mid controls too.
Bought one last month, traded in my 1200 SportyT for it, put the touring package and a Stage 1 on it!
Cool that you dropped this video my fiancée is looking to step up to a newer bike from her first bike and ive been wanting her to ride one of these. Definitely keeping her 2001 1200S around but I can see her on a Softail standard and your video came out with a lot of good info at a good time. Thanks block 👍🏻
So weird seeing you ride right past my house!
That would be the Harley for me based on the price, and the multitude of directions you could take it in customizing.
Good review brother.
Thanks for your review man! Glad to hear those comments from a Harley experienced guy like you! I'm waiting for mine to arrive at the dealership in a month or so here in Barcelona, my first Harley!
Getting this as my first Harley and I can't wait
Got a 2021 softail standard Wednesday and absolutely love it. It's got some pep with that 107 engine but super monuveraable and light. Definitely worth the price! The customization ability is insane with this bike as well.
Good'ol test-ride videos! It never gets tired!!!I've mentioned this before, but I'm not sure how many would enjoy but it would be great to see you test-riding a Diavel/Diavel X and/or a Rocket III!Stay safe!!
Im a fan of bobs and you could easily bob that sweet bike! But,its a blank canvas and you could take it anyway you want and it looks like an awesome platform for whatever you come up with! Thank you BlockHead for doing these videos! Been watching alot of them and learning alot!
HI Blockhead, Bought my Softail Standard yesterday, just today saw your video. Super review. Can hardly wait to maiden ride my bike. up here in Canada, it will be another month. Be well
Bought this bike a month ago and love it! Changed the seat out cause after about an hour it feels like you’re sitting on the frame.
Would you recommend an h-d softail standard for an older guy getting back into riding? Thanks!
Just brought one in NZ. My first Harley, just love it..
I own this bike and I love it! Customizing a little at a time right now all I have is tab performance slip ons with zombie baffles. Coming next is a saddlemen seat and forward controls. Love your videos man looking forward to upcoming videos!
Why forwards though?
I can’t wait until I own one of these. That’s beautiful simplicity
I took one for a ride last Sunday and it was awesome! I defiantly want to get one now.
I'm glad you made a video on this I've been considering this bike since it came out. Would love to see you put a BlockHead touch on that.
i own a 2020 softail standard and love it i live in nor cal on the coast.the road have alot of curves it handers great and for power it flat gets down the road..love the old school look easy to trick it out.
Thank you Blockhead for getting me excited for another Harley I wish we got in India. Happy riding.
Just bought a street Bob 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it. Other than the seat there's not much I want to change. 👍
Bought my Street Bob January 31st. Almost 12k miles on it. Saddleman Step Up was a must.
Saddlemen Renegade solo seat
I love mine. I bought a HD Sundowner seat. Very comfortable, less expensive, and it isn’t drastically stepped so I can slide back to stretch my legs on longer rides.
I was considering this bike, but I’d change to Mag wheels. I’d also change that seat to a Saddlemen Explorer.
Great review as always..appreciate you putting the time and effort in..I’m on the fence with either a street bob or roadster..6’ and 250lbs..can the roadster work for me? Not any vids showing larger guys on roadsters riding or even just sitting on one..thanks
Great review. I own a 2020 model. I put on a HD Sundowner seat, passenger foot pegs, and a detachable sissy bar. It handles great and has plenty of power. I left my motor stock to maintain my warranty. It is smooth and powerful. Low seat height. I’m 5’8” so Adventure tourers aren’t on my menu. 😄
Great review! I bought this bike a couple of months ago as my first Harley and love it. Definitely going to switch out the seat though.
Brian McElmeel yeah just bought my Softail after about 50 miles tailbone pain is getting uncomfortable!! New seat upgrade this winter definitely!!
I pick up my 2021 FXST on 2/27. Rode HD's for 30 years and have been away from the brand for 10 years now. Looking forward to re-engaging with HD again. The new M8 motor, frame, suspension and minimalist look drew me back once again. I'll be keeping my 2015 Indian Chieftain for trips.
I bought one today! Traded in my 04 electraglide. Asked if I could use my bike for some credit, they gave my 3,000.00 in credit for customizing. And I cant wait to start adding my personal touches. Picking it up Friday. So glad to get off the 88
This is what I'm planning to buy myself. Thank you for the review!
I just purchased this same bike Friday my first Harley I love it
Picked up a slightly used one today, just needs forwards and a seat. Good 1st street bike for me after having a few CRF450's! Thanks for the videos!
Iron 1200 - $9999. Softail standard - $13599. To me If I was getting into a Harley I’d elect for the standard. Fully upgradable to how you want it. Great job blockhead.
I love those bikes. Other than the seat, and maybe the exhaust, I wouldn't change anything. It looks tough already 👊🏼
What’s wrong with the seat?!
@@alextorkelson I just don't think it looks very good.
@@mikesatawake2277 what seat would you replace it with and what exhaust would you get
Maybe a La Pera Cherokee seat and probably a 2 into 1 exhaust. But having said that I'd take it just how it is since I can't afford it, lol
I have a 2019 Soft Tail Slim and I love it.
I have a 2021 iron 883. Loving it but looking hard at this one. Love the old school looks.
Great review. Currently on a XL1200C. My precursor to the Softail Standard. Keep doing what you’re doing. Love the channel.
I see it as the most natural upgrade. I would do the same.
William H Macy rode one in Wild Hogs...
Very good review, also in 2023. I'm a big fan of the laced wheels too and thanks to your review I made the decision for the softail std and not a Sportster 1200.
This reminds me of the Night Trains from 15 or so years ago. Love the bike!
I wonder if it feels as good as the Night Train. I had a 08. It was the best bike i've ever owned.
Thanks man, great review! Best wishes from the Netherlands.
Those are slick starter bikes or a bike that you really want to build up the way you want. Nice video keep up the good work.
I have this bike. You are spot on with the seat comfort. There are a few options, but you almost have to look for street bob seats to actually find them. Options are getting better though. I also fully agree with buying this bike to build, which is what I did.
Yes the stock seat sucks so bad looks good but that's it and anything that fits a new street bob fits this one i always just look for street bob parts when I want something for it
Yes, please pick this for a giveaway bike. Love it.
Hey block do you think a Street Bob or a Standard would be a significant upgrade compare to an Iron 1200 or I'm just better to get a used Dyna? The softtail model I really like are the Fat Bob or the Low Rider S but I can't really justify the price.
I prefer the streetbob cuz it's all blacked out probably be my next bike after my irons paid off 🤞🏽 awesome job as usual Block 🤘🏽
I’d absolutely buy that bike. I’ve seen them in person a few times but haven’t had a chance to ride it myself.
Going to see one Saturday in Biloxi, MS. Hopefully I can get to the Harley dealership early enough to take a test ride.
I loved my street bob and I am going to get one as soon as I pay off the street glide special
I just got my Softail Standard 2 weeks ago and only thing I didn’t like was exhaust (sounds like it’s from the jetsons) and the seat! I’m saving up for those can’t wait to build mine (club style bike)
Fist bump sound effects best part of the video.
Love This bike. ✌🏼 from 🇨🇵
Hey commander blockhead, what would you say about the softail in regards to a beginner rider? I know this is an older video but I’m in the process of getting a softail standard as my first bike. Also your vids are dope
Legit Block. Thanks for the great content!
I PICK MINE UP JANUARY 28th I’m EXCITED ❗️❗️
It's definitely a good option to start a modded build
Nice video! Does it have a gear indicator on that digital dash?
Okay so I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now after my father in law was gifted a tri glide. I have a soft spot for sportsters especially the 48 but I went to a dealership to sit on a few different bikes and I think the most comfortable feeling to me was the softail standard. Would that be an okay bike for a beginner?
My question is how do you opt between the Low Rider and the Standard? Which do you think is the better bike of the two?
If I had new bike money in hand, I would definitely be looking at the standard as a second bike (my current is a 2000 XL1200 custom). I’ll be honest though. I kinda want to see you ride the flagship bikes from BMW: the RnineT pure, 1250GS, and S1000RR. Some of my favorite videos of yours are always when you go “off the reservation” as it were. Awesome video!!
Excellent review. To me it looks like the 72 model hit the gym and got bigger.
Great info Blockhead, the gas tank is a 3.5. Do you have the option to switch to a 5 gal tank?
This is definitely on my list of bikes to consider. Price is a limiting factor.
That handlebar clamp speedo is so cool. Wish my Sport Glide had it. 😕
Would this be a good first bike for an older big guy? Just getting back into riding…thanks!
great bike with a good lean angle, get a upholsterer to pad out the seat, and change the bars , and get a tuner to let the motor breath more ..
Blockhead , just wondering if you are able to do a comparison between the Softail Standard & the Street Bob , which would be the better choice .
Taking my msf class soon. Is the softail standerd a good first bike?
one of the most interesting harleys at current
Would the forward controls be enough to make this bike rideable for me? I'm 6'3".
Finally, yes! I believe & trust yours review
I have only one question. Harley did an amazing job on this, but is there a way to eliminate the computer screen on the handle bars? Hopefully there is an analog guage. Thanks for any help.
Have you made a video yet about 2018 Classic Heritage Softail with a 114 M8 that has fuel leak issues from the vent tube with less than a quarter of a tank of gas in the tank?
It's maybe the only new softail that I could afford. And I also like it a lot.
im wanting to get a different bike then the 883 i had for a little bit lol i want something that would be with a charging port, better seat options cuz of some spine damage that ive had since 2013-14 i loved my sportster yet to me it feels to slow now lol its all stock so im 5ft6in tall and im not into the big bulky kinda bikes lol i like the slimmer style of bikes lol any ideas on personal preference that you might recommend for me to check out?
Absolutely love it. Do you think 23000 with everything except gap is a good price cash. Thanks
Totally agree that stock seat is junk! Switched to a Saddleman StepUp and then a Saddleman Explorer (better passenger comfort) on the Softail Slim I had. A set of Rinehart SlipOns make that Milwaukee-Eight sing a beautiful song.
I ❤ the look of the standard 👍👍
Great entry level bike! Friend of mine just bought one and I am helping her modify it! Thanks for the review!
I would not consider it an entry level bike. Too heavy and "powerful" for a real beginner.
@@thtigmif Sure, understand. My friend went this route instead of a Sportster for the little difference in price and wanted new. She took private lessons for 6 weeks and is riding good. I agree it has a lot of power and torque for some but she thankfully was able to handle it.
@@thtigmif Powerful LOL. My electric mountain bike might be quicker.
@@Lex-Rex Powerful in quotes. I'm not talking about horse power or top speed, but you can't deny that it's pretty torquey. Obviously it's not an hayabusa.
@@thtigmif They are torquey, but compared to a Rocket 3, VMax, Valkyrie, and the Diavel, they are pretty weak. If you ride any of the ones listed above, you understand.
That's the one I like. Kind of weird if I had all the money to spend, I'd have something like a Honda Monkey, Tenere 700, MT-09, and that one.
Would you consider this a good first bike in general
The local Harley dealer has persuaded me to come and test ride one this weekend, although I have been looking at the 1200 Iron. As he hasn't got a 1200 Iron in stock, I suspect he may be trying to sell me what he has got. But I do like the minimalist look of this bike.
Me and a friend went to Buddy Stubbs HD in phoenix AZ where we are staying now for school went to look at a cheap softail but it was sold by the time we got there. We ended up at Arrowhead HD another dealership not to far away and they pointed me to the softail standard just waiting to get financing on it. I'm coming from a 2003 Honda shadow 750 ace.
Nice bike, a few changes I would make and that's just me. (#1) I never liked turn signals clamped on the handle bars, drop them down to the forks along side the headlight. That also frees up the clean look to the front. (#2) I would change the handle bar size to Chubby for a thick look and feel. (#3) Nice looking pipes but you have to hear them..... Nice Bike!
How about the Softail Sport Glide? Yeah, it’s more $$$ but it’s got so much more to offer. The best part are those gorgeous mantis wheels! Or maybe the best part is the quick detach bags. Or that cool looking mini fairing, also quick detach. Or that cruise control comes standard.
As always, good video!
Love this bike would definetly buy this bike.
Its a great bike as a starter project to make it your own
Damn. I was good right up to single disc ip front. I tow a motorcycle camper. Dual discs up front is the minimum standard for stopping safely.
If I could afford to give up my sporty right now, I would definitely be sitting on one of these! I do wish they offered different wheels, that being said I do love the wheels on my 2017 Iron 883! So for me the stock wheels from my sporty on this bike = the baseline look to start moding from!
What exhaust system would you suggest?
For an affordable bare bones bike I really love the look of it just the way it sits as is. Not big into chrome but I dig this set up.
13,500 is affordable? I like you universe.
@@Lex-Rex let's be honest, if you want a good bike you need to spend at least $12k usd.
EDIT: that is $12k usd on any brand of motorcycle, including the Japanese brands just to clarify.
@@stephen5665 There are tons of good bikes that are cheaper. However, if you want a mid-size cruiser then the options are very limited, especially if you want a six-speed transmission.
I know this is kinda meant as a blank canvas (as others have stated), but wish it came with options to purchase "the blank canvas" with the 114 or the 117, and a 5gal tank would be a nice option. And yes I know you can get those after market.
What single seat would you suggest?
would the soft standard be a good start bike?
