  • The Molt is an Important time in every birds life. Especially ones that are just turning a year old and are losing their immature plumage and graduating to firmer, sleeker and even more beautiful adult feathers. Carol is a Red Tailed Hawk who is just now earning her iconic red tail!

    Hi Maxx,
Started watching your stuff because of the first trapping video you put out of Carol. I myself just received my letter of sponsorship and got done building my Mew and weathering yard. Haven't trapped a bird yet, but will be this fall with a good old bal-chatri. Have enjoyed watching your videos on falconry immensely these past months. Definitely led to me checking out a bunch of your other stuff. You mentioned in this video installing a second door on your mew. I live in Rhode Island so i'm unfamiliar with the requirements where you live, but I'd love to share with you my sponsors thoughts on this same matter. He recommended to me simply hanging a thick tarp over the door. It creates that simple additional barrier when you open that inner door. AND it blocks light quite well, which as i'm sure you know can be a stimuli that agitates raptors. Anyway, it's a cheap, easy, effective solution to a question I recently had whilst building my future raptor's home. Hope this is helpful! -Sincerely-
    A Big Fan, Noah Croy

I was kinda gone for a little while and just now getting back - it's so good to see you and Carol again! The new place is *stunning*!!!
I have heard that molting is very very itchy for many birds, and that sometimes humidity can affect how easily their molt takes place. Now, that was in relation to "indoor" birds, specifically parrots, but I wonder if that's also part of her being a little bit grumpy.
As for the breaking off feathers - just a thought - maybe watch her while she's in her enclosure, a bit, and see which perches she's favoring most. Maybe you can figure out what it is about a spot that makes her like it better, and then set up more "Carol approved" spots.
One last thing, again because I'd seen this in relation to parrots... does she get bored, do you think? I mean, obviously parrots and hawks are not alike, but are they that much different? Is that something your sponsor might be able to tell you about? It seems like one of the reasons other birds have feather trouble is basically from boredom, they over-groom or they straight up damage themselves. Carol is clearly not having that specific problem! She looks really healthy and happy! But I'm just curious about it, whether it would help make her less stressed or not.

Nice Zibo bro and I learned a lot about falconry thanks for all the show all of the cool videos of everything when I was down the Grand Canyon back in the 80s there’s a red tailed hawk that was in danger sitting down by the water not moving so I wrapped my shirt around her and took her up to park service they took her and took care of her or him 😝 not sure but fixed it up and I was able to name it , rusty pretty cool it knew I was helping her so she let me hold her like I said thanks for the video

    @lancewoolen9343 Před 5 lety

Oh man, you're going to love flying! It's incredible. However there is a strong argument to be made for learning to paraglide first before adding the motor to the equation. Getting a good solid control and comfortness with the wing and it's limitations without the motor will pay off immeasurably if and more importantly when you do encounter some difficulty in the air. And you will have those moments, it's part and parcel of the sport. Often times we see people who go straight to paramotoring lack the basic skill set to get themselves out of trouble because they haven't learned to fly the wing.

I've taken her hunting a bunch of times but came up short every time. I'm hoping to build up the rabit population on my property so we have better odds this fall

No I cn keep her for life if I want to. I plan on doing at least one more season with her before graduating to a different species of bird. That will put Carol at around 3 years old and she will be ready to mate which will help the local Hawk population

The one thing I don't like is that you broke the law... The one where the two hawks fought. You could clearly see that you didn't swap our the ankle tethers for non-slitted ones when hunting. This could get her hung up and killed. You also hide an angry personality... in some videos it is quite clear.

So...you went through an entire hunting season without any footage of this bird catching game. Whats up with that!? I dont know where your from, but we get 6 months of hunting season. No excuse for you not posting a kill video in an entire season. Either your sponsor sucks, or you suck at being a legit falconer.
80% of your information on falconry is correct, but the other 20% is very misleading. When, if ever, you catch game with a trained raptor, then you can call yourself a falconer.

You know what. I was writing a whole explanation about the circumstances that occurred that prevented me from taking advantage of the hunting season and then I realised that I dont need to explain my self to some random douchbag online that thinks the title of "falconer" means anything more then just a hobbyist that hunts with birds. You're a joke.

Ben Hill, that is an inappropriate comment to make. I don't know Maxx but it seems like Maxx has alot going on, not just Carol's training.

Ben Hill, I get what you are saying!! I am a Raptor fan myself and know that I would never have the time to do this kind of thing. Maybe Maxx will figure out that he really doesn't have the time either. I DO think that Maxx has enough sense to give Carol back to the sponsor if she is not able to hunt for herself. Still think your comment could have been said differently. ✌🏻❤

@@diannenaworensky6698 I hope your right. I've posted questions, being nice, he would never answer, hoping to help the boy get his bird on game, but he would never respond until I pushed his button with my original comment on this video. Thus, is why I believe he does this for attention, not to hunt the bird as he should.
I trapped a bird on 8/17/19, and within 28 days she was trained and already has taken squirrels. If this boy can't do it in an entire season, he needs to find something else to occupy his time.
Falconry is a lifestyle, as any serious falconer will agree. It's not a hobby, or a passing fancy, as maxipad here calls it. I'm going into my 4th season with over 225 heads of game taken between 3 redtails and one tiercel Harris's.

@@ben4x4 I can see from your answers that you have a passion for Falconry. I commend you on your training and hunts. Not everyone moves at the same pace. I hope Carol gets trained and gets to hunt this season. Watching some other channels such as the guy in Utah (I think) , I have learned that these guys love to hunt. It would be a shame if she doesn't get to do what she loves. You have a great day Ben!! 🦅❤🦅
