I’ve dealt with chronic fatigue to varying degrees most of my adult life (53 years old, former mtb racer. Still run, bike, lift 5-6 days/week). Got to the point where I had to nap in my truck on lunch break and would pass out on the couch when I got home. Finally found a doctor that specializes in chronic fatigue. Blood work showed low hormones, adrenal fatigue, and active Epstien Barr virus. Started last May with a tailored 3x daily vitamin/ supplement regimen, TRT, and 2x daily anti-viral med. Reduced carb whole food diet, 11 hour time restricted eating ( trying to get this under 10 hours), and try to get 7 hours sleep per night (8-9 would be ideal but difficult with work and family). Feel better now than I have in years and improving every month. Hope this story might help someone. Hearing about Ken Roczen’s struggle with EBV and Nick Koumalatsos’ struggle with low hormones got me thinking about finding a new doctor and helped me ask the right questions. So glad I did!

I'm Brazilian and I've hardly ever followed MotoGP, but since I was a kid I've always considered this motorcycle category to be the most exciting of all motorsport categories. Knowing a little about this MotoGP world, I soon met (on TV, internet) some of the great figures, such as: Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa, Nick Hayden, Jorge Lorenzo, and almost everyone is a fan of the VR 46 and later of the MM 93 because they were competitive, they earned a lot, they were very bold...
I didn't have a rider that I was a fan of, so I got to know Casey Stoner's history and career and today I consider him my favorite rider for everything: for his talent, his unique achievements, his character, his story of fighting this disease overwhelming, for her determination and example. Your number 27 and the memory of your deeds will forever be in my heart!
    Thank you very much!

I admire Casey for the level he trained himself to reach and for how long but look where it's left him ! He achieved his ultimate goal, but at what a price !
I've been doing sports for my whole life with a truly demanding career besides and I just dropped two years ago while helping a friend on his boat.
My heart stopped, I looked at him with my hand on my heart and just had time to say "Something's wrong" before collapsing.
Long story short: 3 weeks Coma and a ventricular pump grafted to my heart I now walk around with a computer linked to a pump grafted to my heart while waiting for a transplant.
I'm extremely lucky, but I suffer from chronic fatigue now and feel that there is NO WAY I can let the people who saved my life down now.
Its been two years. This is the third.
I'm part of a rare blood group so it'll take time and not one day goes by without me HAVING to walk and do cardio exercises to stay alive; all mixed with fatigue because of a heart that isn't working properly anymore.
Kudo's to Casey for at least realising what's up and for dealing with it, but it seems that he unwittingly somehow brought it onto himself and now there is an enormous void without the pressure to go out and WIN another race, meaning perpetual training etc.
He wore himself out, top notch.
It's good that he believes the coach that told him he was an A grade cyclist. He's too small to ever be an A grade cyclist. He's the equivalent of an A grade cyclist for a guy his size more like.

@@il-conte I won't go into my personal case, BUT Casey stoner was trained and trained his body since the age of 4 to become world champion.
Just like in training; if you go out running once a week it'll do you little or no good.
A bucket of water thrown over a stone every day has NO effect apart from wetting the stone.
A drop of water every second for years will cut through that same stone.
In the same way Casey's body has reacted to him stopping his "ultra" training to stay at MotoGP N°1 level with TIME.

      Cheers.
Its a good yarn he has but it's like lietening to his doctors and psychiatrists when listening to him.

@@il-conte Casey says it himself sometimes and there is of course the famous time he ran up to someone "Rossi or Marquez" to tell them they'd 'run out of talent':
Casey doesn't work on talent. He's very good; the best, but it's through diesel training (that he refutes)....
He forced his body to do thingd he wouldn't normally do while racing with other pilots that were talented AND heving fun while riding.
Casey wasn't having fun. He was "At work" all the time..... Just like so many other athletes. It catches up with them sooner or later.
90% of top Athletes start because they are good, then train and train and train getting their body used to training very hard so their bodies (especially Casey who started at 4yrs old) that this is what life is and "adapts".
When they stop. The body takes on it's normal functions instead of being forced through training that it had got acclimated to.

I've struggled with CFS since 2018.. lost my work career, motorsport dreams.. everything I'd worked for. It's f'ing devastating.
Anyone who is suffering you are not alone. I spent 3 years in bed but now feel completely fine- i run my own business & lift weights 5x a week with no issues.
These are the things that helped me, I hope they can help you too:
    1. Cut out animal products
    2. No sugar, salt, vegetable oils or processed food
    3. Fast for 20+ hours per day & periodically do 3 or 7 day fasts
    4. Take cold showers daily and do Wim Hoff breathing exercise.
Since doing these things, I don't just feel good. I feel amazing, which is crazy because 12 months ago I couldn't get out of bed & was suicidal.

So his problems started after his shoulder surgery. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some sort of infection in his shoulder. Even the best surgeons make mistakes. There are videos of surgeons accidentally leaving scissors inside their patients and sewing them back up.

Pretty much sounds like Casey’s HPA is messed up. If his anxiety and stress and physicality was maxed out for long periods of time as in his career, the effect on the HPA can be significant. Essentially burning out the body’s ability to produced regenerative hormones leading to his conditions. If the pituitary is messed and doesn’t produce ACTH hormone properly, the adrenal gland does not activate to produce cortisol, and without cortisol, well bad enough, can be fatal. Basically an adrenal crisis at some level. This does correspond to obsessive compulsive related tendencies forced on conscientious type folks, in other words, a decent kid trying to do his best to win and please a whole whack of people oh and a nation, to the detriment of his health and no one was selfless enough to notice it was killing him slowly.
No longer having those specific, hyper exciting goals/races always scheduled and worked toward that create purpose and parameters for function is also a major factor. Lost in the nothing is almost more devastating given that anything less than 200 with his hair on fire won’t trigger “desire” motivation component and corresponding adrenal action even if it weren’t messed up is something to consider.
If I could suggest, if he hasn’t already looked at it, get the pituitary/adrenal/cortisol levels checked asap and also book a golf match against someone, to re-focus his goal/purpose spark fired and the gas burnin situation. He will likely not have a desire, but something significant should be booked for the jump start. Heck I will challenge him. We’ll play for charity to keep the stress low the competition strong and the experience fun.
I too have eerily similar issues from stress burnout, physical damage, correct levels of expectation destroyed and decades of constant disappointment, some of which was my own fault from expectations simply set to high. Avoiding the trap of paralyzing pointlessness is paramount. Sometimes shear grit and determination of the mind over the body then becomes the major factor knowing and creating real importance in your actions.
Despite the challenges that we face, we forge ahead. I am

Casey needs to be sat down and told straight up, What causes CFS, Why he has it and How to reverse it. Also He most likely has a form of PTSD from his shoulder Operation (Yes that's a real thing) That is making the whole thing worse. It is so easy to explain and to fiX. I have worked with the top Urologist in the country along with over a dozen Emergency Medical Physicians at the Gold Coast ICU In an educational capacity, Most of them would not know the fist thing about how the body actually functions on a cellular level. Once you know that, most physical conditions like CFS are simple to cure!

@@GYPSYTALES Malnutrition and high levels of stress hormones have destroyed his ability to absorb nutrients properly. But the biggest problem is understanding how to get all the nutrients and minerals you need in the right form. When they are in the right form, they contain Live Enzymes that help your body to know what it is so the body can absorb it. Apple Cider Vinegar with "Mother" enzyme will restore your gut to optimal health so it can uptake nutrients properly and then Organic Beef Bone Broth to replace all of the Nutrients your body needs in the right form (alive) and in one go.Vitamin pills and Pharma drugs are a scam and do nothing!
It will take 3 months to top up all your nutrient stores to functional level.
6 months and you will have topped up all your nutrient reserves as well.
After 2 years your body has replaced every single cell with ones made from optimal nutrients.
I also believe Casey has a Form of PTSD which basically is just an unbalanced Endocrine System. That needs to be addressed also!

@@GYPSYTALES If you deplete your body of nutrients for too long, Your body actually loses the ability to Absorb nutrients. So now your body can't absorb nutrients, how do you put them back? That's the million dollar question and that is what CFS is in a nutshell!
