    Absolute gentleman and a sportsman for people to look up too. It was disgraceful the flak Casey copped during and after his racing career. Many of us have absolutely no idea how debilitating chronic fatigue and other mental illnesses can be.
    Mate you've earned everything thats good in your life. And thank you for showing the world again who Australia is and what we can deliver.

    • @CRFLAus
      @CRFLAus Před 5 měsíci +14

      Exactly. You'll find the people who gave him flak were fans of a certain rider (we all know who) and these people weren't motorcycle racing fans, they were fans of one rider.

      I agree with what you've said regarding to Casey, but I'd like to make it clear that chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is NOT a mental illness. It's a multi-system disease, often post-viral (like longcovid), with neurological, immunological, autonomic, and energy metabolism dysfunction causing symptoms far beyond extreme fatigue. In severe cases it will leave you bedridden for the rest of your life. Sadly, research into the disease has been highly underfunded and many psychologists have tried to label it as psychosomatic in order to 'treat' them with therapies such as CBT and GET. These therapies are now known to be harmful for ME/CFS patients and have been rejected by major medical research organizations such as the NIH and NHS.

  • @richiemcgowan1823
    @richiemcgowan1823 Před 21 dnem

    Firstly, thank you MCN for posting this interview. Casey Stoner is an extremely gifted motorcycle racer. A 'gifted' person is in a different league to a "talented" person, where there could be 1,000 talented people for every 1 gifted one. In my opinion, he took racing to the next level, with his elbow on the ground and spinning out the back wheel to defy the laws of science with his lean angles. As far as I'm aware, the last person before Casey to make that kind of impact through innovation, was Jarno Saarinen, the Finish rider from the early 1970's, being the first rider with his knee on the ground, (although this was made famous by the legendary Kenny Roberts). The respect I have for Casey's parents, who moved to the UK with little in the line of budget, due to their belief in their son, is remarkable, and a testimony to them as a family unit. Also, Casey was all about racing, and not comfortable with the circus that surrounds notoriety, which so many other riders with a lesser ability thrived on, they wanted to be famous more than anything, regardless of who they stab in the back along the journey. I strongly believe that if it weren't an ego and public popularity competition, with the likes of a few riders from Italy and Spain, and health issues, Stoner would have won 10 world titles. Also, if you think about it, Marc Marquez, whom btw, I think is the 2nd most "gifted' rider in history, quite literally was passed the baton by Casey. He took over the bike that Casey had set up, and took his unique riding style, and went on to be the genius that he is today. I'm not taking anything away from Marc, he fully deserves his success, but don't you think he owes a nod to Casey as his number one inspiration in terms of riding style? And lastly may I say, I'm a huge fan of Marc as well, but as a person, I think Casey is more of a legend than most given his level of achievement, he's got the "down to earth" level of a road racer from the Isle of Man or The Skerries 100. Thank you for reading this, and I hope you have enjoyed my humble point of view.
    Richie

    Casey is a _real_ racer. Up there with Gardner, Rayney, Doohan, Agostini, Hailwood, etc. Basically he's a "give him a bike, any bike, and he has the ability to win". He's not a "if it ain't perfect, I can't do anything with that" rider like Rossi, Lorenzo, etc. A true legend.
