  • Casey Stoner is a 2x MotoGP World Champion and one of the most incredible riders to ever grace two wheels. He had the perfect mix between next level commitment and clinical technicality that few have been able to match since. As a fan and student of all Motorsports, Casey is the perfect man to ask the maybe unanswerable question... What is talent?

True in most of the cases! But when it comes to sports you Will always need some kind of talent, i don’t think you can learn to play football or soccer or ride a bike if you don’t have some sort of talent for it.

We all miss Casey in GP as he is incredibly talented. I’ll never forget his honest reply to Vale at Jerez when he said “your ambition outweighed your talent.” Masterclass that!

    • @mlviale

The things he could do on a bike were just simply put, breathtaking. The way he’d slide a bike into and out of corners, just awesome. I’m glad we got to see him on a factory bike after all of his and the Stoner family have sacrificed to get to GP, similar to Chaz Davies. Casey if you read this brother, I absolutely loved your book mate!

Stoner is massively missed from racing. I like his outlook on life and racing. The only thing I will say is that it is easy to be a superstar when a bike is designed around you for your unique riding style as proven by how other riders pretty much ended their careers trying to ride that bike. Bit like HRC did with MM.

Despite the European press belittling you during your career (above all in 2009 and in 2010) you are probably so talented that it will never be there another in MotoGp. Ive been a coach for 26 years in olympic/paralympic sport and been a motoX fan all my life.
    Its easy.
Talent is what your born with. Skill is what you learn/work for. Skill wins more than talent in the long run.
The best explanation Ive ever heard is this.
"The best athletes have the ability to get their skill level above their talent level."
Think about this... Its very very difficult and very very rare.

Everyone knows Casey is extremely talented, he just isn’t one to hold back how he feels or speaking the truth. If I were a team owner/manager, that’s the exact kind of guy you want riding for you. And if you’re smart enough, you do whatever he needs to be competitive or to improve the bike. Unfortunately, Ducati and HRC then and still do today, think their engineers know more than the man risking his life to go over 200mph.

From first watching the likes of Hansford, Willing, Blake, the Sayle brothers etc on saturday afternoons on ABC back in the 70's, then grainy pictures on SBS when they began their coverage of the 500's in the 80's, through to the present day of being able to watch practically any motorcycle racing from just about anywhere. In all that time, IMHO, the best rider I've ever seen, at his peak, is CS 27. To my mind, even better than 'Mighty Mick' Doohan, Rainey, Rossi, Marquez et al. Great interview with the champ and his book, 'Pushing the Limits', is a brilliant read as well.

Back in the days I was racing, one guy I raced with at club championships his father used to get right up in my face, telling me how much his son was going to leave me in his dust etc and how his son had beaten me before (only beat me if I had fallen off) and it went on and on and just like Casey said, it just made me faster, so it always backfired on his father and he was too stupid to realise his threats and whatever else he was trying to do to get inside my mind was just making it harder and harder to beat me! And by the time his son and I had stopped racing… he never once came close to beating me! I used to love it when people tried mind games with me as I just rode better!

I think he was spot on about Kenny unfortunately. Out of this world talent but unless he does something soon, he'll be a talented gatekeeper the remainder of his career.
    Also spot on about Friese

    • @yamahakid450f
      @yamahakid450f Před 2 lety +3

Kenny was told he would be lucky to feed himself with that arm and hand again, let alone ride at that high of a level and win again... his body is destroyed from all the IV antibiotics he was on when his arm was sliced open to release the pressure. I think the way his body is these days he actually over trains for what his body is able to maintain, he looks his best after taking time off from riding and training. He won first round of outdoors unprepared and leading into supercross was off the bike for almost a month being sick and won, I think he needs more time to recover than what he used to so now it's easy to over train and it's hard to get through 17 rounds healthy, not just injury but sickness. The guy works his ass off, his body and immune system is trashed so how do you juggle that with training? I don't think they know. This guy as smart ad he is, he doesn't know what's going on with Kenny or what his Dr's tell him, neither do I of course, I've just seen a trend with him that leads me to believe what I said.
After coop left Aldon, he's gained weight and now he's been a top 10 guy so far... it's crazy the difference this year. The bike may not be as good as they had the old one yet, but he looks off and the rest of the guys have stepped their game up. A holeshot and a 8th place start is the difference between a potential win or just a podium or top 5. You can't start anywhere in the top 10 and come all the way to the front anymore... besides round 2 where Kenny got hurt in qualifying and had a bad night, the past 2 weekends he's been upfront but taken out by Anderson and it's insanely hard to charge to the front anymore, top 12-15 guys are gnarly and hard to pass. 1-15th in practice one weekend were within a second and the tracks haven't been passing tracks. Kenny can come back from this points deficit but Anderson has sure made it a lot more difficult for him unfortunately.
The guys who are aiming for the title, they need to really take a page from Dungeys Playbook, win when the opportunity is there but stay on the box each weekend and you'll get it done by the end of the year. No one is going on a win streak this year like RV, RC, JS, or Chad used to do, so need to push the limits to try and win every weekend, it's just not going to happen so run it in for a podium on those off nights. With this field even that's going to be very difficult to do but I think it is possible.

Dungey didn’t take his training to the next level when you went to Aldon’s he always trained hard. He said himself that he started trusting his equipment/setup and stopped making excuses. Love the Lawrence boys but fuck stop talking about them every supercross convo because they still haven’t done shit.

They were talking about talent…they’re 2 of the most talented riders out there, young up-and-comers.

@@GYPSYTALES of course I know that I also know you’re close to the Lawrence brothers and a huge supporter as am I. As I said he(Jett) doesn’t need to be spoken about during every supercross convo yes there’s a shit-load of potential but at the moment that’s all it is. Btw I do love your content.

Hunter hasn't won this year but he has in the past... Hunter was supposed to ride East, he didn't know he was going west until a week or two before A1, there's no way he was physically peaking and had the bike dialed...he still riding himself into shape and working on bike settings, he's only going to get better... its Craig's title to lose, but don't sleep on Hunter, he hasn't shown what he's truly capable of yet.

LOL - a little Catholic with the emphasis on benefits if suffering. Without the grace of talent, no amount of work will make you a great rider - a good one sure, a gritty one sure, but that last 10th of a second - no. Life isn't fair.
