- It’s been ten years since Casey Stoner last raced at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, and nine years since he visited the region that made him an Australian legend.
You’d be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of Casey Stoner, the Queenslander’s name is synonymous with MotoGP™ and for good reason.
A two-time World Champion, Stoner’s first win on home soil in 2007 kick-started a run of six consecutive wins at Phillip Island, with 2012 marking the final time he’d stand atop the Australian podium.
Now, a decade later, he’s back.
To mark the occasion, Casey Stoner was joined by friend and fellow retired MotoGP™ race-winner, Chris Vermeulen for a very special return trip to Phillip Island where the these two icons share memories of a combined 13 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix starts and the secret to being quick at The Island.
During his career, Casey Stoner was described as a genius in the way he approached racing at Phillip Island. This is Casey Stoner like you've never heard him before, speaking candidly about the nuances of racing at the iconic circuit and the tactics that made him a legend and seemingly unbeatable around The Island.

Image sitting behind a road trail bike with 27 Stoner on it thinking "what a poser.." and then stopping in for a coffee and seeing the lid come off and seeing not only Casey, but Chris too... Legends 👍👍
😂😂😂
Haha I was thinking the same thing 😅 🤣
Couple of absolute legends. This is amazing.
❤️ Incredible to have Chris & Casey involved in this shoot.
In my opinion, CS27, was the most talented racer ever in modern era. Too bad the circus was not for him to stomach. And then his ability to explain things from technical standpoint is just something I have never heard anyone do. Just a brilliant guy. Thanks Casey for the thrill and entertainment over the years. I hope you are well and having fun living your quiet family life.
My thoughts exactly
Same,Casey my fav ever.
Talented enough but wasn't mentally tough enough. Too bad. It happens in sports all the time.
I remember Keith Huewen saying he went out the back of whichever circuit it was and Stoner was doing things in a particular corner which no one else could.
Could not agree more 👍
Great video. Nice seeing Casey and Chris at the Island and looks like the weather played nicely for them. Seeing an elated Marco Simoncelli at 8:18 chocked me up a bit knowing he would be dead just a week later - RIP Marco
Some of the best times of my life seeing Casey's 6 wins in person. The guy is a genius. Hope one day to meet my hero and thank him 🇦🇺❤️
A magician! His insight into Phillip Island was incredible.
Happy to see Casey up and about again after all his health issues, thanks for the video 👍
I get goosebumps watching this. I was there in 2012 watching from turn 3. The mastery was obvious. Back wheel hanging out. Dani fell off at 4, Jorge, Cal and Dovi were also-rans. Big fan of Chris too. Massive fan of Aussies in MotoGP. Go Jack!
Thank you to all involved in organising this day for two superstars.
Hope you enjoyed the insight into their secrets to being fast on The Island as much as we did
@@ausmotogp Brilliant, just brillant.
In 2018 I rode my Kawasaki ZX10R from Alice Springs NT down to Adelaide (1500km on a sportsbike) and met up with my best mate (who owns the same bike). Two days later we rode from Adelaide to the Island in one long day (750km). We then spent 4 days there watching the GP. Then did the return ride back. Best time of my life. Two good mates on the same machinary living a life long dream.
You just reminded me how absolute mental the distances are in Australia.
😂
Unreal! What a memory!
Hallo Casey i have seen a old picture from you you have a young sheep in your arms and a big happy smille in your face!! This was the moment, that i now, your a real hero!! Human must respect the animals!! And you do this,i hope your farm have much good times and all the rain you need, for a good harvest, very best wish from a Fan Reiner from Germany Sorry for my bad english best wish Reiner from Germany
We only know the riders from what we’re told basically from the media, I went along with the ‘Casey Moaner’ that changed when Ben Spies said ‘ I know I can’t do what Casey does , in and out of the corners” also his fight with the debilitating illness in such a pressure cooker and dangerous career. I now have the utmost respect for him and am so pleased he’s got a handle on his condition.
With some of the greatest riders coming from Australia, these greats should team up to share their knowledge and skills with the up-and-coming talent to produce more Australians for the MotoGp. Like the VR6 academy ... Stoner, Vermeulen, Daryl Beattie, Bayliss, Mick Doohan, Wayne Gardner, etc: what a pool of talent, Australia boasts.
We’ve been extremely browsed with Aussie talent
In Australien some very young kids (3 years) became a little cross Yamaha PW 50 that made only for kids,or a other bike like that, and there have very much place to make training, or there ride on the bike farms, from her parents, thats one of the risen that the Australien bike racers are so good, and the best from them are Casey Stoner!! Sorry for my bad english best wish Reiner from Germany
Lets not forget Jack Miller 🏆
This two are absolute super heroes , realy miss this era in motogp.
Nice to see them riding Triumphs, made just 20 miles up the road from where I live. Hinckley Triumph have done an outstanding job at the forefront of the rebirth of British bikes with some iconic machines.
Wow, just realized its 15 years since Casey won his first title on the Duke.
Watched every single race of Casey’s career. He is also a pretty handy golfer. Met him at Hope Island. He is a very approachable nice young guy.
Nice to see these two guys still enjoying there riding. Aussies rule legends of the sport we all love 😁
I hope you took your chance Chris and beat him to the line!! Thanks Legends! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks Chris n Casey for sharing your track and experiences at one of the BEST tracks in the world.
Met Casey a few times, great guy, but was always too busy, be nice to share a beer and time with him now.
Cheers and thanks.
Amazing insight into his approach on how to ride the island.
Dont we all miss Casey these days...
Won on a motorcycle nobody wanted (or knew how) to ride...
This was a great video. I was there to see Stoner as the new world champion on his first year with Ducati and I was there for his first season with Honda where he won the championship on his birthday. We jumped over the tyre barrier at Siberia and I fell knee first into the gravel. Even though I was in tremendous pain, I ran all the way to the main straight for the podium holding two open beers and a deck chair and I didn't spill a drop. I was the real champion that day!
Take a bow champ , that was seemingly.. pretty spectacular.
even Stoner would have given you a De Nero facial nod.
That’s all time!
Lol, the opening 14 seconds was enough for me! Never actually ridden to the island, just on it - that made me lmfao!!!
Great to see these 2 guys enjoying a leisurely motorcycle ride together, and talk a bit about their racing experiences, and do a few tourist laps of the Island circuit. And it's so good to see Casey looking healthier than he has for a long time, with energy in his voice etc.
Can’t wait for Phillip island 2022
Join the club 😜
I have big framed photos of Mick, Chris and Casey in my office, so it was great to hear from the boys.
I've enjoyed a dozen road trips to P.I. since the late nineties for MotoGP and these blokes never disappointed.
And let's not forget Garry McCoy, super sliding legend 😁.
This is a masterpiece!!!
You’re too kind ❤️❤️❤️
It is a beautiful track to ride around. So good to hear commentary from champions.
Amazing insight.
Loved watching these guys chat, always been a fan of both of them 👍👍
Such good insight. We're spoiled for racing talent in Australia.
Made my day. Stoner and CV together again, epic.
So great. Good to see Casey back down at the Island and hear some of his insights. There were none better.
Kudos to the team that organised this for these two legends, I’m pumped myself for Phillip Island riding down from Sydney, will be my first time seeing this iconic track and hope to see awesome people 👏🏻
Dress warm. Even on beautiful days the wind off the Bass Coast can be chilly
@@ausmotogp Thanks for the tip 👍🏻
Umm. More Please. You two should do a tv show together. I’d definitely watch it. Sponsors would definitely get onboard. Great Show!
Thanks for the kind words!
Loved it. Thank you for the effort in making this video!
Awesome! Great to see these legends out #ForTheRide on Triumphs
Brilliant video, so good to listen to what these champions have to say about riding the Island, well done all involved!!
Excellent. Always wanted to ride to Philip Island. The race memories and footage take me back.
CaseyStoner27, an absolute joy it was to watch him twist that throttle ✊🏻🔥❤️
🐐
Goosebumps, one of the nicest videos I have ever watched, thank you guys 🎉😅
I always enjoy Casey's interviews and this was another great one
One of the best. His insight into riding is something truly special.
I can listen to motorcycle racers talk about racing all day. Great analogies by these two legends
Unreal insights from two of the best.
Legends! 🏆
Couldn’t have said it better ourselves ;)
Amazing shots, edit, music ! Absolutely top top production and content of course ! We love Casey and Chris here in Hungary ! True legends !!!!!!
Wow that was great to hear these guys explain the best track in the world .I also agree Casey was the best in the modern era and most talented by miles . How he was so fast yet so cautious is very backwards to us normal humans . 👍🏼👍🏼
Stoner the Moaner was a good pilot but weak minded.
amazing, thank you. ❤️
Casey's technical breakdown of every part of this track is so enlightening. Things like outside tyre temperature, slope of the curve, weather etc. He hardly mention's the bike itself.
He’s a genius in two wheels.
Awesome video gents, cool to see 2 Aussie legends having fun after racing. Also cool to learn how you boys rode the track. Job well done.
Thanks for the kind words.
Unreal experience for the crew and to get that insight was priceless.
Great video, It'll be good to watch (on TV, as in the UK) the races both in MGP & WSK. 2 really awesome Racers of their generation.!. 👍👍
Couple of legends. Hearing them talk about the way they get around Phillip Island was amazing
The Legend of Phillip Island continues, a racers track. Fast, flowing and safe. Cheeers to all the riders past, present and future.
The best on CZcams, 2 absolute legends 😁
Thanks Dave, we agree
That was a really cool vid. Insights from Casey giving a glimpse as to why he was so good!
So good!
Wow this was goosebumps all the way 👏👏👏
Awesome!
This is a special video -great insights.
Thanks Graham, we were absolutely stoked with the way it’s turned out.
It just makes you smile
Love Chris and love that Casey acknowledged the unfair comparison.
Brilliant to have them together
Great video and insight thx awesome
Thanks for the kind words
Class nice lads….. thanks for the excitement Casey cris was handy in the wet.
2 legends
Absolutely
Love it, cant wait for phillip island
That makes two of us!
@@ausmotogp jacks on a roll
Chris Vermeulen The Rain Wizard i see you on track.
You are the best when moment.
I watched Casey dominate there. My first race I'd ever watched its a Great time! Casey had the talent to be the greatest ever I feel.
Rossi will always be my favourite
But after re-watching some of the old races, Casey was up with the greats in terms of talent and ability.
Especially with Honda - he was virtually untouchable then.
Retired on top with nothing else left to prove. Just amazing
Quite a career!
Chris wasn't just a race winner, he was a WSS champion 🏆!
Aussie pride X2 right there 🏍 😎 🇦🇺
This year will be the last time we have two Aussies on track at the same time for a long, long time.
@@jackiechan5626 Yeah, pretty sad really. Feel so bad for Remy when he outrode his team mate all year but ends up without a ride, whereas Raul gets a pretty decent ride.
@@waynemitchell1076 That’s Motogp political machinations right there , it’s probably why Casey came home to Fish.
miss casey on the track , miss him sliding
Brilliant idea to get these heroes back to the PI track.
Quite an emotional day for all involved. Incredibly spoilt with how generous Chris and Casey were with their time.
Absolute pleasure to watch this amazing legends, have to watch several times because tears in my eyes 💞
Still remember the best days of my life hanging on the fence of the race tracks when Casey won the races.
Went almost all over to cheer for Casey, but not the King's Island.... And I'm so sorry for that.
Now? To see this generation of bikes, sounds the same and looks like......?
Anyway, give Chris a Suzuki and Casey a Ducati to do a few honour laps ❤️❤️❤️❤️
And, maybe an old -93 500 Honda for Sir Mick Doohan 💞👍🏻
So miss these guys just real talent no bullshit also gotta mention Troy Baylis and Troy corser in wsb they made great viewing
How lucky are we when it comes to Australian talent?
@@ausmotogp you had at that time the best riders in the sport i feel very privileged to watch these guys
Still a couple of places on our WSBK ride, Chris and Casey. 4000km of the best twisties there and back. You'll have to share a room though.
so awesome to see Casey doing better. Loved watching him race! Great video
His insight into how to ride the circuit was fascinating. A genius on two-wheels!
Chris was also an incredably talented rider. Should have won the world superbike championship as well as supersport.
loving this.. living legends..
❤❤ stoner
Very cool video, maybe you could camp track side with us and get the experience of a bike fan? 😂so where is everyone camping this year?
Two of the truly greats. I've had the pleasure of talking to Chris on a couple of occasions and he really is a good guy. Imagine getting to ride with these guys. it would be a thrill.
Can confirm. A ripping bloke.
Epic reel, well done all ❤
That was Brill!
Thanks Michael
That was sensational to watch thank you
Thanks Shane
Main straight blind first corner ocean views...where else but Oz.?
Great to see Casey and Chris enjoying a ride for the ride but still a real shame that we didn't see a few more years of them back in the day. I still want a Suzuki Chris bucket hat. I went to Philip Island once as a backpacker but got there to late to see anything and ended up in the local Mexican restaurant.
Le fasi della vita dovrebbero essere: nasci, cresci, vedi un giro di Stoner a Phillip Island, ti riproduci e poi muori" .
- Danilo Petrucci
English is not my first language and I am dissapointed that this has no closed caption. Yeah, it's made for locals, but MotoGP fans are worldwide
Phillip Island and Bathurst.
Say no more.
That was brilliant guys. 🇦🇺🤙✊✊
Thanks for the kind words Matthew. Glad you enjoyed :)
Casey you are an absolute Legend and I apologise for booing you at Donnington as a Brit. Chris I was also a big fan. Thanks for doing this, a pleasure to watch.
Wished Casey was still in Moto GP, he would give Márquez a run for his money!!
One of the alltime greats
Don't want to sound to disrespectful, but Marquez should retire. I think the sport has passed him by now. Look at the chaos he caused in Aragon on the weekend. Even though they were deemed "racing incidents", it was nearly like he was in panic mode. But he can still prove me wrong.
Casey was a different level, his ability and talent was unmatched in his riding era.
I would have loved to have seen Marc and Casey have fought together on track.
The two most naturally talented races of the modern era.
I hope Casey is doing well health wise as I know what he's been going through, as I have the same illness.
Thanks for that
Geez I miss Casey. Absolute top genuine say it how it is bloke. Bloody awesome.
Amazing to be able to bring him back - if only for a short while
MotoGP world champion with italian bike and japanese bike.
Who's stacey?
اسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته تحياتي لك مرحبا بك شكراً
Really miss watching you both racing. 27 vrs 93..... What a race that would be. My money would be safe on number 27. Good health to everyone
Absolutely that’s GOAT-World , be the race between the fastest guys ever .. with maybe Mick getting a look in as well.
Why are they both riding the new Tiger?
Why not?! Beautiful ride.
So they don't offend the Japanese factories they both represent
Because they offered the most money.
Awesome 😢sad to see Casey retire so early. He didn’t like the electronic intervention he’s a genius rider via his exceptional feel and dirt track rear wheel orient d riding style. Long live the King of Phillip Island !
Casey is The Man!!
🐐
10 years? Time flies by.
I know right! Crazy!
I could barely hear them when talking in the helmet. Thick accent that's why. 🗿
We don’t think Australians have an accent…. It’s everyone else that has an accent 😜
@@ausmotogp Hahaha make sense, bro. 😂
I m a rossi fan and friend but I conferm.. Hat down for Casey stoner 27 a pure talent 👍
El Maestro Stoner.
It seems odd that they are riding adventure bikes. Sponsored ride?
The greatest head of hair on sport.
