    Hi Rick, I'm a cognitive behavioural therapist from the UK. Exercise is an excellent technique to help overcome depression, so I have been recommending you to all my clients. It's lovely to see a trainer talking about the effects exercise has on the body, and how to use exercise to overcome depression, anxiety, eating disorders etc. Rick keep the sessions coming they are achievable for every fitness level. :) we love them.

      I dont understand how exercise helps overcome eating disorders?? That's the one thing thats not recommended to people with eds?

    • @MJ-264
      @MJ-264 Před 4 měsíci

      @@psychoticdolphin4461 That's a very good question, let me try and explain. Firstly, I am a recovering ( recovering because it's with you everyday, you just learn how to control it) anorexic, I was diagnosed at 14 years old, I'm now 48 . By the age of 25 I had a complete mental breakdown, I weighed under 6 stone ( I'm over 6ft) and I was dangerously ill. I was a mother of two small boys and I was desperate to get better. All the counsellors and psychologists I spoke with only had text book knowledge, which was no good to me, they didn't understand what I was saying, I needed someone with real first hand experience with eds, so I decided to do it myself. I qualified as a nutritional and diet advisor,( so I could understand the bodies nutritional needs and food in general) a personal trainer( so I could understand how to strengthen my muscles to protect my bones as I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, I also lost all my teeth except my front two , this all happened because I robbed my body of all its vital vitamins & minerals )and cognitive behavioural therapy ( so I could learn to control, but also understand all the automatic voices in my head, telling me not to eat because I will feel fat, for me it wasn't about look, it was about feeling fat) Through knowledge and understanding I learnt that to over come my ED I had to implement 3 different forms of attack, nutrition to help protect my body and try and repair the damage I had done, exercise to strengthen my bones, work of the early days of anxiety that eating caused, plus burning the calories that I had put in that day,( i always stayed in maintenance calorie intake ,this made eating food a good thing rather than a bad thing, Cognitive behaviour therapy, so I could control and over ride my thoughts , feelings and emotions. I have had my ED under control for nearly 20 years, don't get me wrong some days are harder than others and there is a very thin line between exercising for health reasons and falling into the trap of excessive exercising to lose weight, that's a whole other trap that I fell into very early on , which by putting in the correct frame work I never fell into again. Exercise on its own should never be used as a sole strategy for overcoming any EDS, it simply amplifies the situation making it a million times worse, but by using a framework using multiple different disciplines it works wonders. Education is key to learning how to control EDS. I hope this helps.

      @@psychoticdolphin4461 Great question , Firstly I'm a recovering anorexic ( diagnosed at 14, I'm now 48, and recovering because it never leaves you, you just learn how to control it) After a complete mental breakdown at 25, I quickly discovered nobody could help me in the way I needed, they were all text book knowledge and they just didn't understand what I was saying( in today's world it's a lot better) so I decided to get better by learning, so I qualified as a nutritional and diet advisor ( this was so I could understand how the body works and what it needs to repair the damage I had caused by robbing my body of the vital vitamins and minerals it needs) then I qualified as a personal trainer ( so I could understand how nutrition and exercise worked together to repair by bones plus build muscle to protect my bones) then I qualified as a cognitive behaviour therapist ( so I could understand our thought process and how to override the negative thoughts, feelings and emotions) I quickly discovered i needed all three disciplines to be able to control my ED. One element on its own is not enough, you have to have a strong frame work in place to help break the ED cycle and truly control it. So you are correct exercise on its own should never be used by someone with an ED, it is so easy to fall into the trap of over exercising to lose weight, you turn a positive reinforcement into a negative and dangerous strategy, but used alongside nutrition and CBT it works wonders, the feel good factor that you get after you have exercised and used good nutrition to refuel is addictive, it's this feeling that helps you control your ED, because you feel even better than you did and for me my anorexia was about feel not look. Education is key. I hope this helps. I did reply before but it vanished ☺️

    • @Welcometotherox
      @Welcometotherox Před 3 měsíci

      @@psychoticdolphin4461It really depends on the ED. Not everyone has orthorexia or exercise related anorexia. For things like BED, ARFID or people with disorders that aren't exacerbated by building gentle fitness into routines, it's a very sensible suggestion.

I have arthritis in all my joints and fibromyalgia so I can’t do zumba anymore or intense exercising. I love to dance in the privacy of my own home to my favorite music and your videos are just what I needed to help me get started once again in getting in shape. I did 1500 steps for 2 weeks 5x a week then next 2 weeks -3000 for 3-5x a week now I just did your 5000 step and I’m proud I made it all the way to the end. I just want to say to all the plus size middle aged ladies out there who like to dance but hate to exercise try this work out- you’ll love it and you won’t even realize you exercised; you just danced for 10-35 minutes! Watching from Fife, Scotland. Just did this for the first time. My wee boy will be 2 in March and until now I haven't been able to find any motivation to get healthy and lose some weight. I decided to raise money for charity (CHAS) by doing 280,000 steps in the month of February and these videos are certainly getting me through this and having fun doing it too!! Thank you so much for this! I wish you all the success in the world x

    Hey! I LOVED this workout! I'm in Eastern NC in the USA near the beach. I just turned 59 and I've been fighting binge eating disorder and morbid obesity (and the depression and anxiety that goes with it) all my life. I am working on having a healthy relationship with food using Intuitive Eating (it makes so much sense) and learning to take good care of me. I did the whole video! So proud of myself and grateful to you for posting it. My goal is to be at a healthy weight by my 60th birthday. Thank you for helping me get there! I posted this video on on Facebook and I'm joining your group, too. Congratulations on your new baby!

    I enjoy working out to your videos very much. I have DVT and PE and I am obese. I had abdominal surgery ( umbilical hernia repair with abdominal plasti/ tummy tuck) in November and was diagnosed with the DVT/PE in December. I’m happy to be alive.

Eager to regain lost ground, and to feel better mentally, I unfortunately jumped back into a routine that was too rigorous, so I have now aggravated the injury. I have been feeling so discouraged because every routine I tried was too much, that is until I discovered your videos! I cannot describe how encouraged I am, and already see some progress. Your routines are awesome! They are adaptable to any condition or any desired level. Thank you so much!
