Why are TV's so disposable? Hisense WiFi / storage full bootloop

- This isn't a sympathy video, I'm just opening up to share my personal experience of how cost cutting and poor manufacturing in today's tech impacts vulnerable groups the most, especially the poor and disabled. From a PC to a laptop, releasing a subpar device and ignoring the QC issues is a common practice. Hisense isn't alone in this, it's a known secret that Smart TV's use the cheapest IC's available, and if you want your TV to last, you should never use the built-in apps. The fact this is acceptable on thousand dollar devices is disgusting. TV's are now essentially a computer, so why don't they treat it like one?
- Věda a technologie
Making this was tough as it involved dropping the memes and opening up a bit of my personal life to a million people. But I feel a responsibility to use my voice to show the real-world impact this shit has on people. I also have no faith Hisense will ever make this right, so I would love to hear from someone in the industry whether it's possible to swap the NAND and reprogram it. The firmware is available on their website, and thousands of people require this service. Please email me.

Hello, I’ve been watching your videos for awhile now and we also own this TV but it’s the European model with its own software instead of android and this never happened to us even after a few years of owning it so I really don’t know anything in this but I hope you or someone else find a way to fix it so that your dad and the other countless people suffering from this can finally relax.

My mom got a dumb TV, but it works. So I agree with the above comment. It's a shit TV 😌
Probably all TV manufacturers cheap out on the CPU so theyre all slow, a 20€ streaming device beats them with ease.
Man you broke my heart, you’re kindest technician the world ever had❤
And here my almost 15 year old 50" LG that gets left on constantly by my kids as well as my 10 year old 55" vizio which again my kids never turn off even when not using it, both work flawlessly with an amazing picture still 😂
The vizio did develop a couple dark "splotches" a few years back but it's only noticeable when it's displaying a solid bright color across the screen and hardly noticeable at that. Hasn't gotten in worse since I noticed it tho.
Quality was different back then. I have my father's old LG 50" plasma from 2012 did cost like 1400euros i think on sale back then. 5 years ago, he bought a 75" TCL google tv he will replace this summer just because the smart functions are not working. I am taking that tv because he will throw it to the recycling center Inatead of selling it cheap. And it wasn't a cheap tv either with its soundbar. Over 2000 euros without sale and he always use the smart functions.

This one really spoke to me. My grandfather developed dementia before passing away from cancer in April of 2018. Watching someone you've known for years slowly forget you is heartbreaking. Since then my grandmother really got into K-Dramas and she is always calling, asking me tech related questions. It really helped her take her mind off of my grandfather's passing. You have an amazing family and I'm glad you can still have a sense of humor about things!! We're always here to support THE GREATEST TECHNICIAN WHOEVER LIVED!! 😎

Andy, I can really feel you, my grandma (who I live with) also has dementia and she's always bugging me or my parents to fix her tv when she messed up the input or the receiver turned off. She's always talking about how much she misses my grandpa, and how much I should visit her grave, etc. I'm really sorry and can't imagine just how hard it is for your dad. Man, I had a Samsung TV that the audio on it started to get all wonky, and even muted, as the brightness of the screen changed, it would make weird hissing sounds and pops and clicks. Then the display died, but the audio started to work. So, me being me, I took it apart! (On my bed, wife was NOT happy!)
I decided to take the good ol rework station to it after inspecting the boards. The tv was like 4 years old, and had tin whiskers like you would not believe! So, I resoldered the boards, and good as new! Gave it to my dad when I upgraded to a 70" TV like 5 years ago, and he is still screaming at it today while he watches college basketball and football.

It's literally a few dollars to fix and it's now running for 6 years after the repair.
I have a Hisense too. If you can find a newer model main board with the same pin connections for the ribbons, you might be able to jury-rig it by cutting the plastic around the inputs and mounting it manually. It doesn't matter if it's android or google OS, also. Screen size is mostly irrelevant since it's the same board size. Same gen H9E and H9O boards are available online. Newer U6G or U6H models could also work, but without the RCA inputs.

The Wii U Also has a really similar problem with hynix chips. They just die due to data corruption all of the sudden. Not all consoles has this same issue, but its possible to just fully replace the chip via soldering with something called a "NAND-AID"
My grandfather used the same television for 40 years. These "defects" are actually features. Make us replace everything every 3 years.
the way to fix this one is find a working one, flash the firmware from the chip to copy it, solder on a new chip, flash said firmware back
@@escapetherace1943 Yeah, I don't even have this t.v. just making a point. I did have to open up my computers and game systems a couple times to clean them out but most people are electronically illiterate and can barely change a batter let alone solder something.
@@makokx7063 I'm down to do it and am pretty familiar with firmware flashing but for me it's just hobby stuff. It is utterly ridiculous how these things break so fast though. They may not last 40 years like some old CRTs but they should be lasting 15-20 minimum based on part longevity

Thanks for telling me about this. I don't know if it's the same model, but my Hisense TV had trouble connecting to my wifi recently. Fingers crossed it isn't the same problem, because I can't afford a new one right now.
Mini pc and a big monitor or a projector is what I recommend. F those “smart” TVs. They steal all your date, inject ads directly into whatever you soon and easily break while being near impossible to be repaired for a reasonable price.
Amen brother. I'm such a proponent of Mini PC's because it's EXACTLY what I think they should be used for. It's just so much easier for non-tech oriented people to use Smart TV's.
Hey tiny raccoon hands; I too am an Electronic Technician and had the same thing happened to me with an Insignia TV, and after 3 year's the Main I.C., that does almost all functions - slowly died.
First, odd things from time to time, then 6 month's ago the screen slowly went black - from left to right, like if a curtain was pulled over the picture...though I was able to hear the broadcast in the background. Tried other functions, nothing...not even O.S.D.
I tried to source the board through Best Buys, turd party parts depot - 0 luck. And this is only one small board (8" sq'd) that runs the whole thing.
I could get the I.C. from Ebay ( for the cost of a new/refurbished tv), but then have to program it!
Next T.V., I am going to put heatsinks on these S.O.C IC's and may place a laptop P.C. fan on the top side to draw the heat out faster!
Best of luck 😊
The reprogramming is the hardest part because if your chip failed it probably means EVERYONE ELSE had the same problem! Next TV we're disconnecting internet and attaching a Mini PC to it!
I'm a cable cutter, I like O.T.A., I like do things the old fashioned way...in fact I wish the brought back Analog TV...regardless, you would get a channel.
And if I need Net flix, or Tubi, etc.; I'll do what you do, the P.C.
But, seriously that, S.O.C. (RX'es, decodes HDTV, and hand of sound to the Amp) gets frigging HOT, along with the other components.
Man you're awesome. Your dad reminds me of my own dad a lot, but in my case he's the one dying of dementia (prionic disease). Hug your old man a lot, he's a cool guy.
