They missed a great opportunity with Jodi. She could have been a fun and quirky Doctor. Instead they surrounded her with the lamest set of companions in the history of the show. Oh, and the writing and storylines sucked too.

They know its going to be gay, anti male, racist, woke and everything inbetween and story will be an afterthought and a frame to hang all that on. Its the BBC. Its Disney. There is no more goodwill or trust for them. The proof will be ratings, and what it gets on catchup. Even Whitakers catchup figures dropped right off, compared to when she started. So the show was getting a few million live and a million more on catchup that was it. Gatwa will end up with that or less at the start. Where it goes from there will be the tell all....

Many episodes had a hidden message of things like how th wood were oppressed by the imperialistic nation much. The mutants episode somewhat a reflection of an American revolution or the fall of the Roman Empire. And also the Daleks being the alien Nazis. Doctor Who perminantly lost the right to talk about race when they made Isaac Newton black. Of course, it's ridiculous for it's own reasons, but it's also pretty offensive to imply that history went exactly the same for him with that in mind. Pretending a person of colour could have attended cambridge, acted as master of the mint and been an MP in the 1600's is beyond fucked in how rivisionist it is. In doing that, they've already pretty much revised history to claim that racism against black people wasn't really a thing in the UK.
Genuinely, they have no right to tackle race as a subject anymore.
It's especially strange that they believe the race swapping of historical figures is a BETTER version of history.

Yes, but the lead actor/Doctor hasn't really encountered this personally, and that means it will be much more of a focal point of the show from now on. This is a good thing imo, as it opens up more potential for stories that couldn't have previously been told with a white actor in the role. It's always best to address these historical attitudes, rather than pretend they didn't exist.

This all culminated in more mass-murders than the little German guy from WWII, so while people think this is all silly bickering over entertainment, it very well could be part of something much worse.

I will never watch anything Ncuti Gatwa is in. I gave Jodie a shot and didn't like her. Part of that turned out to be her purposely disrespecting what came before. I might even watch shows with her in it.

Ive been telling everyone that Ncutti Gatwa doesn't know how to act a character, except as himself. I watched him in Sex Education as Eric. It was a fine show in season 1-2. But got too horribly written & woke in season 3-4 so i stopped watching. This guy Gatwa plays a gay character (as he is in real life) whose main character development is exploring his sexuality and finding ways to express himself as a gay person.
Guess what so far, that's exactly the same vibe I'm getting in his Dr Who characterization. What a dishonor to the legacy of Dr.Who.
To be fair most actors are like this, theres only a handful of actors that can actually act different characters, the rest are just type cast versions of themselves.

The doctor ended for me at the 12th doctor... 13th on are, for the lack of better terms, a doppelganger that fails to act like the original on most levels and creates problems instead of solving them.

The story, 'Remembrance of the Daleks, had a section where Ace pulls a sign from behind a curtain in a house and it read: 'No Colours' on it. The year they were in was the 50's and it made a good point about how segregation was wrong.

It was the early 60s as was but yeah, along with how the Daleks have a racial hatred towards each other to be called imperial and renegades. Or in ace’s can, nothing but blobs fighting each other

One of my favorite shows of all time is Deep Space Nine. That show tackled all sorts of issues like racism but they did it with class and were intelligent about it. The Cardassians were basically space Nazis but the writers still managed to make you feel _some_ empathy for them. Some of these people should go watch episodes like "Duet" if they want to see how to do things, I still get goosebumps when watching the exchanges between Kira and Darhe'el.

“Doctor Who fans are racist!” They say as they actively ignore everyone who very much enjoyed Martha as a companion. 🙄 I wouldn’t give half a crap about the Doctor’s race or sexuality if they didn’t immediately tell me that I’m not going to like it because I’m racist and homophobic for having any reservations because the writing and directing looks awful. If they just put it out and asked me to enjoy their creation, I’d give it half a chance. But no, they can’t do that. They have to preemptively make me the bad guy because they KNOW I’ll critique it.

Ban press tours and bar all actors, directors, everyone involved in a production from using social media AT ALL until the movie finishes its theater run or the TV series is fully concluded. It's the only way Hollywood can manage any sort of damage control and start pulling themselves out of this nosedive.
