I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching!

¡Lista excepcional, especialmente Los Cronocrimenes!
Lots of stuff to check out thanks. Dead Man and Stalker both rock, as does the Cooler.
Eating Raloul sucks ass I honestly I don't get it
@@ValdezJu Bueno amigo, I loved that one as well. It rather covered most of the anomalies of time travel. So weird and wonderful!
@@randomreviews4278 That's because it's a bad movie recommendation. STILL it has some class stars in it.
For another classic in the military genre The Dirty Dozen is on HBOMAX now.
Stalker is listed as Extract at 20:41 lol
Though Jason Bateman and Tarkovsky is something I'd like to see
Love this Darren Van Dam. I've already watched so many movies I had never known of thanks to his channel.
I was so surprised by Lars and the Real Girl. I assumed it would be a one note joke, simply laughing at the main character, and I guess that's why I didn't watch it for many years. What I found instead was something sweet and uplifting. It's a great little movie!
We actually showed this during our movie night at church. We had seen it at TIFF and loved it. The crowd was very unsure as the movie started to unroll, but I think most came around by the end, so much heart.
You're so professional you always have a way of getting people well at least me psyched up to see these movies. You have a great screen presence I could see you doing this on a real professional level like on TV. But for CZcams you're definitely a pro
Your excitement is so infectious!!
Thank you! Btw..sometimes the movie titles aren't matching the movie you are reviewing..i.e., Stalker was showing "Extract"
I've seen Sorcerer but never The Wages of Fear and have been meaning to. Thanks for letting us know it's available.
I think 'The Losers' should be higher up on the list, I've seen some of the other ones you have higher, and i feel it should be higher because I find it more rewatchable.
Overall, good job though! 😊
"The Losers" is a terrific popcorn action movie. "Wages of Fear" stars Yves Montand is a first-rate classic and will have you at the edge of your seat throughout. By the way "Sorcerer" (1977) is the American remake starring Roy Scheider was fantastic but was released almost at the same time and inevitably over-shadowed by "Star Wars."
Spot on! 👍🏼
Totally. I used to drive 2 1/2 ton trucks in the army, including some very sketchy combat maneuver night moves. I will never forget the image of a deuce and a half crossing a rope-suspension bridge at night in a storm. Amazing.
The original ‘The Hitcher’ is such an awesome movie. It’s been one of my favorite movies. Rutger Hauer is so awesome in it. My only issue is that it is only available to stream on HBOmax, I would love to buy it and own a digital copy.
Buy the DVD or Bluray then you don't have to worry were it is streamed and you get a few extras. 😀
You can buy it here on CZcams for $14.99
@@timlorenz8003 - No way. A lot of people these days watch movies on their phone or tablet, especially when traveling, and they don't have a DVD or BluRay player.
@@CerealDust-nStuff welp, I never checked here. Thanks for the info. Yeah, I don’t have a set place to live, so I like to keep things digital. I would love to physically own all my favorite movies, but I don’t want the extra luggage.
I just watched the Hitcher today per this video. I'm 46 and watch a lot of movies. I can't explain why or how this movie and I haven't connected until now.
All I can say is that it wasn't worth the wait. For 1980's thrillers, it probably works. Rutger Hauer is great as always. I could have stood for closer dynamic between the antagonist and protagonist rather than the frame the innocent guy against the authorities dynamic. And the authorities were a joke on all levels. The highway police chase single handedly took me out of the movie. That was bonkers in a bad way.
It wasn't a terrible movie by any stretch. It just didn't live up to the 36 years of hype I've heard about it. Maybe I should have just watched it in 1986.
Thank you! Nice visual pun with "how it's shot" during your hitcher explanation haha
"I Am Number Four" should've gotten a much better audience response. It is a good movie and the potential with the other movies could've been epic.
Hey Darren! Loving the recommendations. I appreciate also you including the older films. I have been putting my new home theater through its paces with some of your picks. Definitely think Stalker looks interesting. Thank you again!
Timecrimes is genius - as well as the clever timywimy story it is charming and funny too. Lars and the Real Girl is also brilliant.
Yes....Timecrimes is the best in the genre....bought it 10 years ago
Los Cronocrimenes
Thank you for the video! You make some very good movies list and I always enjoy your videos to get an idea of what I may want to watch next. Stationed in Korea back in the late 80s I watched most all of Jackie Chan's Chinese films, and I loved them. Some of the best stunts and martial arts choreography I have ever witnessed. I believe he has broken almost every bone in his body doing these incredible stunts. Thanks again!
Awesome. Perfect timing, keep up the great work sir. We appreciate you
Saw Stalker when I was 16 and it changed my life and the way I see movies forever. I go back to it every few years. Every still from any film of Tarkovsky is a work of art in itself .
And love this list completely!
#wrapmybrainintoapretzel
The Wave on Amazon Prime starting Justin Long was surprisingly good
Two films from 1981 I loved as a young man: Excalibur and Dragonslayer.
Hey Darren, it’d be interesting to see you do a top 25 best movies of all time for each platform. I love that you give credit to lesser known films but seeing you rank the best of the best, regardless of how known they are, would be a treat.
Enjoyed about half of these films, looking forward to enjoying the other's on the list. Thanks, man!
You know why I like your videos?
I will check some of these out for sure. Nice of you to give us some perspective in a market that’s really overstated AF 👍
I love your intro clips to this video! So awesome!
What a great list. Thank you for doing this!
I’ve been waiting for The Hitcher to come out on one of the streaming services. Such an awesome movie!
Thanks for this list Rob, was wondering what Max had to offer lately
LOTS of great suggestions.....as usual. There are a number I haven't seen. Can't wait to dig in tonight!
Typo, my dude. You have Stalker labeled as Extract in the video.
Another great list as usual. Again, a lot of movies that I love were included proving again, that you have GREAT TASTE! 😄😁
Just a little "typo". For the film "Stalker", your caption reads "Extract 1979". So the year was right. 🙂 But it's all good.
Keep up the great work. While often, many of your recommendations are already in my library, but I've found a TON of GREAT MOVIES thanks you you and Flick Connection...
Great list
What a great, Great, GREAT LIST!!! I'm looking forward to watching the movies from this list I have not seen before. Because the ones that I have already seen that are on list were all amazing!
Christopher Doyle was cinematographer for Made.
He's done a lot of work in movies of Wong Kar-Wai and, in his native Australia, Rabbit-Proof Fence.
I watch your recommendations all the time. I’m addicted to time travel movies. Timecrimes was great. Thanks for another great recommendation. Can you do a time travel top 20?
I love Dead Man, it got hammered by critics...the same guitar rift from Neil ALL through the movie, the dialog, scenery...loved it
The Hitcher is a must watch if you havent seen it...and if its been a while, well worth a rewatch. :)
Love these videos!
Thanks Darren !! 🥰🥰
Thank you for another great list of recommendations! If you do a Shudder list or hidden gem horror list in the near future I would like to recommend Blood Quantum for consideration. A zombie film produced by Native Americans and starring Native American actors, it has a neat premise and some Native American identity social commentary that is a throwback to George Romero style social commentary.
Cool! Checking that one out...
I watched that movie 🎥 and really Dug it !
I watched Freejack SO many times back in the 90s. First on HBO when it came out on that, then, I think it went to TBS and The Sci Fi Channel eventually with commercials. Loved it. Also, for some reason, I thought Bronson was the reason I subscribed to this channel since I saw a recommendation for it when it came to Netflix a long time ago and I loved it. But I see the first time Bronson was mentioned, at least in the search history of this channel, is just a couple years ago, and I'm pretty sure I've been subscribed since before then. Oh well, great list!! I'll have to set aside some time for Stalker.
Not that it matters much but title card for stalker has extract
Darren rules. Made, Freejack, and The Hitcher are all required viewing. They're all in a category of their own, but are classics. I look forward to the recommended gems I haven't seen.
Yet another great list !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*You don't know "Eating Raoul" was a huge hit and was like" "Clerks" for the Couple that made it...they are married in real life and this was their first movie*
I remember watching “Wages of Fear” back in the day. White knuckles!
*"Wages of fear" was re-did By the Amazing William Friedkin called the "Sorcerer"*
That scene in 'Made' at the Penguin exhibit is incredible. Vince Vaughn and John Favreau's characters get into an argument and the more they argue the louder the Penguins get in the background. I don't know why but something that simple can be such an effective piece of Cinematography. Awesome movie, not as good as Swingers, but def good!
You had Extract for the title of the Stalker segment of the video
I raved about Time Crimes when it came out on DVD...and I worked at Blockbuster! Excellent flick! Another super-interesting take on time travel: The History of Time Travel. Its on Amazon Prime, 72 minutes, made in 2014.
Never thought I'd see Eating Raoul since the days of USA UP ALL NIGHT! I saw this movie tons of times because it was on TV every weekend for my prime teen years. Is there an episode anywhere covering all those weird movies?
I love "Eating Raoul", and Mary Waranov's backstory is really, really interesting 🙂 Also like "Dead Man" & love Neil Young's soundtrack. "Copland" is great!
That was another great FLICK CONNECTION, Darren. THE HITCHER, BRONSON, & DEFIANCE are quality recommendations. Many thanks for sharing with us and catch you on your next presentation 👌👌👌
Great video! Anytime I’m stumped on what to watch, I come here
Timecrimes is a great one!
Btw you titled Stalker as Extract.
This older version of the Hitcher is EXCELLENT! The remake is lame compared to it.
I’ve loved Bronson since it released! Such an amazing cult classic. Something worth mentioning about it is that it has the feel of a clockwork orange🤘
yep! Kubrick all over the place.
new TH fan!
For some reason, "Stalker" reminded me of "Night Watch"
& "Day Watch" that are two Russian Sci-Fi films that deserve a lot of credit. Two really cool films! If they ever pop-up on streaming service, then definitely check those out.
I Love Night Watch, and Day Watch. Amazing movies!! But was that not supposed to be a trilogy? At least from what I originally saw as it advertised. It was the first sci-fi horror trilogy to come out of Russia??!!
@@MrDJaftershock "A third movie, titled Twilight Watch, was announced as the first English film in the series, but director Timur Bekmambetov left Russia to make Wanted (2008) first. He later said that Wanted had become how he had envisioned Twilight Watch, so he had no immediate plans to start working on the film." - IMDB

Bullseye!
Takeaways from today. Freejack is a cool flick I haven't seen in years, Maria Bello is phenomenally hot, Copland is one of the best films ever, a definite must see. Time Crimes deserves number one. Highly recommended. Thanks DVD!
Your very charismatic on video, well Done.
Saw Time Crimes years ago and thought it was one of the best movies I’d ever seen. So complicated but made so well as to be able to follow what was happening.
So happy, or concerned, but I’ve already seen a bunch of these and yes I liked them! Great list!
Lars and the Real Girl was FANTASTIC!
Emily Rose is amazing, I haven't watched it since it first came out but seeing those clips again gave me chills, that movie really stayed with me! Jennifer Carpenter does such an amazing job, that girl went through so much and I'll never forget it because of the fantastic acting job she did in it, she deserved an Oscar for it as far as I'm concerned, definitely check it out if you haven't seen it. Will definitely watch EXTRACT & MADE again, completely forgot they existed! Thanks for the great suggestions, man you're so money you don't even know it! 😉
Have you done any list of sci-fi short film like the Dust YT channel?
Timecrimes deserves the #1 spot for sure. I'd say it's one of my ATF time travel movies. You have to stick with it but the payoff is well worth it (one of those movies you want to immediately rewatch to see it now that you know what's going on). "Primer" is another good low budget time travel movie but this one is better written and at least makes sense in the end (Primer takes some serious head scratching even after it's over).
Ravenous- total sleeper film. Win/win was a subtle indie number that got me too. Lastly, the Apostle with Robert Duvall - not for everyone but raw third act
Could you do a video on deep water with ben aflek on hulu? I'd really like to hear your opinion on it
I Am Number Four started me on the whole book series. It's a real shame they didn't make the rest of the movies. I remember Wage of War, it's a really excellent movie. Birth was definitely really creepy and interesting. Due to your recommendations I thoroughly enjoyed Sputnik and Time Crimes. Thanks for that.
The book series that i am number four comes from is actually extremely good. Its a pretty original concept. And theres a lot of them.
Can not say enough good things about Dead Man. One of my favorite movies ever. I don't like that it is called an "art film" but I also can not argue with it. So happy to see this movie recommended.
Time Crimes is amazing. I’d also recommend Triangle, similar mind bender movie.
Stalker has the Extract heading, fyi. Just heads up.
Time Crimes is one of my all time favorites!
A great vince vaughn movie is "Brawl in Cell Block 99" from 2017, I have no idea where I saw it, it was on Australian netflix or Australia prime video years ago I'm pretty sure, but it is a freaking fantastic movie and I have no idea if you've talked about it.
Darren, I'd watch the wheels off "The Losers". lol Great list as always!
"Norbit" is one of my guilty pleasures. I think it's hilarious!
When I was a kid, my brother made our parents rent "The Hitcher". We watched it as a family during a weekend in our vacation home in the middle of the woods. Let's say I didn't sleep too well after watching it.
Anyway, great picks! Planning on watching some of your recommendations starting with "Lars and the Girl". 😊✌🏽
Bro i watched all u videos multiple times, ur the pro describing movies, thank u for world class movies, support from India, keep it up Mr.Vandam....!! 🤘👍
Copland and The Hitcher. Two fantastic movies.
Cult Classic HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Currently, you can catch hidden gem, Yellowbeard, on Tubi and PlutoTV.
Yellowbeard is incredible and stars members of Monty Python, most of the cast of Young Frankenstein, and Cheech and Chong. I will warn that it does have dated humor and sensitivie subject material. It was released in 1983 and is Marty Feldman's last film.
Time Crimes is absolutely one of my favorite films.
Loved Losers I do think its re-watchable. Bronson is phenomenal and crazy part is the reality of his story is even crazier than in the movie!
Deadman was my favorite movie senior year of high school. Saw it in the theater. Soundtrack is life changing. DOPE!
I like the score more than any of Neil's other music, by a lot.
@@DarrenVanDam I have to agree. It’s inspired. I went searching through his catalog after that and couldn’t find anything comparable. Even with Crazy Horse. Jim Jarmusch did a great documentary about their reunion and tour around that time.
Also, Iggy Pop explaining to Billy Bob Thornton what a Philistine is… magic
I still quote “stupid fucking white man” all the time. Usually about myself.
THANKS
BTW --- That's a great Tee Shirt!!!!!
I have seen 80% of these and the four I wanted to see I could only find one on my HBO+. 😞 It was Bronson. Your description reminded me of Eric Bana in Chopper. Seriously almost an identical story because Bana went on after playing Chopper to being The Hulk.
Norbit is seriously underrated.
the number 4 movie "Stalker" has the wrong title on the screen. the cg says "Extract"
Hi Darren I find so many great movies through your channel love your recommendations and there happen to be a movie I came across today that I think you might like if you haven't caught it yet and it stars Tom hardy called Child 44 it's based on a true story of a soviet war but turns into this crime thriller in a satisfying way think you will especially like it because you like true crime stuff
Eating raoul!! 2 main characters were in quite a few in those days. Terror vision....rock and roll high school. Epic choice!
I got a movie for ya...The Warriors Way. It came out in 2010. It has Geoffrey Rush, Kate Bosworth, Jang Dong Gun, Danny Houston, Tony Cox. If u havent seen it I suggest u do soon. It's about a Saumuri, a baby, the wild west, bad ass swordsmanship, revenge...its crazy awesome. And I feel I've been a fan of yours long enough to have a decent idea of what movies u really like, and I 100% believe u would really like this movie...again, if u haven't seen it already
DVD dude you are the ONLY person on the internet not afraid to admit that Norbit was HILARIOUS! And in my neck of the woods it's considered a classic 🤣🤣🤣.
Dude, you design your own thumbnails? Nice “subliminal” imaging there, great photo!😀
Los crono crímenes (time crimes) was a stunner...a must see movie which simply amazed me..
The Losers was a great watch. It's the second best comic book movie that Chris Evans has done, right under Snowpiercer.
I am Number Four would have been better as a series....in my (not so) humble opinion.
just too much to it.
Wow, Vince Vaughn looks so young in that 2001 movie, "Made". Looks like the first one I'll check out from this list.
Darren....I can't thank you enough for recommending Stalker.....The first time I watched it, I was pretty confused (and I must admit, bored at times). But the themes stuck with me, and I watched again...and again...and again....and then I fell in love with this film. I am ashamed to admit that I never knew who Andrei Tarkovsky was, but now I realize the utter brilliance of the man. I've watched Solaris too and love it just as much.....
Right on, man
10:29 whoa! this is exactly what
I was just thinking
At 4:17am Philippine Time
Anyway, Darren's the man
Your epic movie connect 😁🤙
Great list. My favorite movie on your list was “Birth”. Then “Freejack”. Thank you for your blood, sweat and tears. Goodnight 😴💤🌙
