Something Strange Just Happened: Rangeman vs Mudman

  • I was not expecting this to happen so quickly. The GW-9400 Rangeman has been in my ownership for a week now and it has become my go-to watch out of the office for these 3 reasons.... Don't get me wrong the G-9300 Mudman is still superb.
    People may ask what is better, the G-Shock Mudman or Rangeman? I say they are both amazing watches. They are built for subtly different environments. The fact the Rangeman isn't made for mud protection specifically means the buttons are slightly easier to press. But I've owned the Mudman for 10 years and it's indestructible. I simply love them both.

    Rageman is better equipped, but it is very uncomfortable to wear for me. I had to sell the watch after a week because of it 😭 I ordered GW-9300 (version with radio sync.) from Japan and I am satisfied. GW-9300 hugs my wrist much better and it will stay in my collection 😁

    I just bought this 9400 and got it yesterday. The light is fantastic, I do notice I use it a lot more than the standard 9400. I definitely will wear the 9400, at work over my GWG-1000’s due to heavy tools, grease, hyd fluid etc.

    One of the nice things about the 9400 Rangeman is that it is easy to buy different colour parts and fit them to customise yours. In the UK you can buy from Tiktox. I have red (carbon fibre), navy blue, olive drab and translucent bezels and straps.

    • @stormrider1119
      @stormrider1119  Před 4 lety

      Oh really? I was not aware of Tiktox I'm going to check it out now. Ive been tempted to buy a cheaper positive face black Rangeman and put on after market different colour bezels and straps but have had a hard time tracking them down. Thanks for the tip! I'm after some of the translucent colours just for something different....

    • @ianmaw66
      @ianmaw66 Před 4 lety

      @@stormrider1119 You can get the translucent ones on eBay. I just bought an official yellow bezel and carbon fibre strap from Tiktox for £77. One thing that tripped me up previously is that they don't normally come with the little screws on the bezel so you may have to swap them over. I would not recommend trying the same thing on the larger Rangeman.

    I owned the mudman. But sold it because I found the buttons a bit too sturdy to press. Another reason is that I dislike the asymmetrical shape of the bezel. The protective bezel wraps the all the way to the back casing, which makes me worry it will traps dust and form sweat cakes. All being said, it is a light and comfortable watch.
    Then I bought the gw-9400 because the quick stopwatch button you can press direct from the timekeeping mode. I also prefer the symmetrical bezel design coupled with some metal touches to make it look more premium.

    • @stormrider1119
      @stormrider1119  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes I would say the Rangeman sounds like the right option for you. The buttons on the Mudman are unquestionably more rigid, as they have been designed for a specific reason; to cope with grueling conditions like thick muddy assault courses etc. That being said I know the Rangeman can also cope with those environments. If you don't need the extra level of protection the Rangeman makes sense to me. Also also agree the Mudman is so comfortable and light. Cheers for the experience and insight.

Like the Rangeman’s triple sensor, quick access stop watch too much. Living in Florida the weather can change to a tropical deluge rather quickly and having the barometer in display can really help avoid a bad situation. I had a blacked out Mudman. The negative display was way too hard to read, it had moisture intrusion, and the buttons were so hard to get a good response from that I got rid of it. I have a Rangeman now, and the quality is 10x the Mudman, imo.

      @stormrider1119  Před 3 lety +1

      Interesting information thanks for the comment. So was it the black with negative with the gold detail? Yes the buttons are harder to press I agree, partly because of the huge amount of protection it has to stop mud/ sand/ water getting into the buttons. Strange you had water intrusion, so you saw leakage inside the glass? I never experienced that with mine after many years of use. Thanks for the comment. The Rangeman is a great watch...

      @@WatchUP69MrRangeman I used to think so too, but i was wrong. It´s right that the GW 9400 was advertised as being mud resistant, but not in the entire watch, only in the sensor button. That´s why Casio took the information out. Not because of the release of the first Mudmaster, but because it made customers believe that the Rangeman had an entire mud resistant structure when it didn´t. If you watch (no pun intended) the first promotional videos on the Rangeman, you can clearly see that it is only mud resistant in one place. Only the sensor button has a metal tube and gaskets inside, the other buttons don´t, comparing it to other Casio mud resistant structures like the Mudmasters and the GPRB 1000. This doesn´t mean that you can´t take it to mud, but it will never be as resistant as a Mudman, a Mudmaster or a GPR B1000 Rangeman.

      @@bigg1779 You are very correct about the size and the amount of damage a watch takes based on that factor alone. I have found the DW5600E to be the best watch for me. It is smaller, lighter, more comfortable, can withstand colder/hotter temperatures (the CR2016 batteries have a wider temperature operation range than the solar models), and best of all super easy to replace given the price (I've yet to have mine die).
      I have the GWF-D1000, GWF-A1000, GF-8250, GW-9400, G-9300, GX-56, and many more Gs, but the DW5600 just works best for harsh work environments hands down. People claim the GX-56 is the "toughest G", but that just isn't true. That goes to the GWF-D1000. DLC case, sapphire crystal, special gaskets on all pushers, floating module, and more make this the true beast. But none of that matters anyways because no one is going to wear that ginormous watch like that at a job where tight clearances are an issue. So, I totally understand your choice with going Mudman.

    Once you try to put GW-9400 on your wrist, there is no way out..... First, Rangeman GW-9400 has super comfortable strap, no compare with the other series (equal & below price range)..... You will not believe me until you try it.... I also have a Casio Protrek PRW-3500 triple sensor (very cool watch with super legible dial) but it comes with more brittle strap not as comfortable as my Rangeman..... Second, still about the straps comfortable is without add wings underneath the straps to filling the gap, the lug is just fit on my wrist, 'cause it's annoying to have a couple wings..... Number 3, the size is just awesome. Yes it is big, chunky, thick, and enermous, but it is not too big, it doesn't look weird when worn by small-wristed guy..... Number 4, off course it is a goodlooking tactical face, with all practicality (big & easy access button), just perfect.... I know what you mean. I still use the Mudman when I'm doing something that is very hard on the surfaces like very physical workouts, mechanics etc. that would definitely knock the Rangeman about. I feel like the surface of the Rangeman is slightly more prone to scratching as the Mudman feels a bit more 'rubbery' if you know what I mean. Maybe I'm imaging it. Cheers...

      @@stormrider1119 You're right. I feel like they both can take the same amount of damage but the Mudman will look prettier at the end of it.

    Seems like you're feeling important! Sorry if famous but no idea who you are and it's expensive watch and prefer real smart watch or [Breitling] .
