      This is honestly something I've thought about for years. And in truth the only real benefit for being famous (as a man) is unlimited access to beautiful and sexy women. But if you get married that benefit becomes a detriment because having so many gorgeous women throwing themselves at you and the temptation to cheat will destroy your marriage.

    Great discussion about celebrity versus the responsibility of making payroll. In my twenties, during an intense argument with my immensely successful uncle about the value of wealth creation versus spending one's efforts to create a just society, I glibly asked him to name one socially redeeming thing he had ever done. His response was quick and confident. He said, "I create jobs." I did not appreciate it then, but by the end of my career I knew exactly what he meant.

    • @EMFObserver
      @EMFObserver Před 4 měsíci

      I appreciated his answer but really only went into depths of what a CEO has to do. A super famous person isn't just getting rich by being famous (even Kim K has to do some type of work), they need to constantly sell themselves and remain relevant and popular to keep the bag coming in, sometimes they are performing monkeys travelling around the globe with performances night after night while trying to remain cool in public and in interviews or spend half the year away from family filming for roles etc etc... If anything he's comparing a famous person who's already made it and doesn't have to worry again to a CEO still in his role? I think the battle between which is harder would be better if there was a 'Drake' type there as well as Steven. Then we could really compare.

    I knew a guy in college who would get escorted out of a house party to his dad's shindigs with a police escort. Sometimes, he'd also be accompanied by a driver/bodyguard when going to "dangerous" places.
    His family halfway hid things. Hidden enough for the masses to not notice but out in the open enough for other rich people to notice.
    Wealth after a certain point adds danger. It's just that celebrity people have a worse danger to wealth ratio.

    Dan Ariely wrote in his book Misbelief about trying to clear his name against conspiracy theorists. It's a losing battle. You can't logic your way out of their beliefs. He had to rely on someone he trusted to manage what people were saying about him as it was soul-crushing to read. You can't win, and like Steven says, it's best not to even enter that arena.

    I'm actually looking forward to listening to the whole episode. I do feel it's a shame that everyone now seems to have resorted to these click bait titles and thumbnails on CZcams. At NO POINT in this video was the conclusion that "Being Famous Sucks" there was a 5 second mention of Steven being in public with his girlfriend. I have started to lose respect for channels that resort to these types of tactics in order to increase views and clicks. Especially Chris Williamson as he doesn't need to do it. He is a great interviewer and has awesome guests. Let the content do the talking and use a bit more creativity to build titles and thumbnails that actually represent the content.
    This video could have easily been titled "What's the real cost of being famous?" or something similar.

    Worth considering too, in business once you have the money you can leave and lead a normal life. But once you're famous, you can't take that genie out of the bottle, your image is already known by everyone. Fame isn't something you can go back on. There are plenty of retired CEOs out there living on a beach but Justin Bieber will be mobbed for life even if he stops all performing and social media.
