- Steven Bartlett is the Founder of Social Chain, an entrepreneur, a podcaster and an author.
How to become a functioning human is a difficult skill to work out. Should I focus on achieving goals or inner peace? Can I become confident without being arrogant? Thankfully Steven has spent the last 2 years distilling a ton of lessons into his new book, and today we get to go through my favourites.
Expect to learn Steven’s equation for unbreakable discipline, the biggest lesson from dealing with mainstream media pile-ons, why there are so few actual practitioners in the world, how to stop being your biggest critic, why your weirdness is the ultimate competitive advantage, how Steven discovered he was riddled with fake ambition and much more…

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤😊😊
Thank you so much for having me brother 👊🏾 hope people got value from our chat x
6:24 it would be worth trialing UHD, UltraHD, 2160p and others to see how they compare for click through rates. 4K is recognisable but also common.
YEW !!! Thank you BOTH for INSPIRING my EVOLUTION 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I am enjoying this episode, I watch DOAC a lot, and I wanted Steven to be interviewed 🙌🏻🙌🏻
absolute banger , like a Fred again show!
Fantastic, helpful content, and the production quality of the video is epic. Thanks for creating this, Chris, and for sharing your wisdom, Steven.
"The magic you are looking for is the work your avoiding" that is the best quote I have ever heard, resonating hard on that.
Sameee! This was one of the best bits of the episode for me
Where was this quote?
That is exactly that resonated with me and I know it is 💯 true
@@trevorlei 29:50
I felt exactly the same way. It's echoing in my head and trying to pinpoint all the things I'm avoiding and scared of, so I know exactly where to start.
These guys operate on a whole different level when they are together. Need more.
1000%
facts . both of them are locked in .
Its feels like a change in ones own brainwaves 1 min after they started talking.
Yes.
absolutely :)
I think the quote Steven was referring to at 28:28 is “If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it.”
The road to sustained failure is the inability to fulfill commitments to yourself. Brilliant.
0:07: 🔑 The frame and context of a story or product is more important than the actual content.
10:15: 💡 To change our beliefs, we need to expose ourselves to new evidence and experiences that counteract our existing beliefs.
19:23: ✨ Keeping small commitments to ourselves can lead to positive changes in our lives.
39:13: 💡 The speaker discusses the concept of discipline and the factors that contribute to it.

stacking evidence is so important.
I now only need to spend minutes understanding the content of this video. You're a time-saver Tammy AI!
Thank you for the summary
56:30 The Lonely Chapter. I listened to this bit twice because it is exactly what I am going through right now and it was such a relief to hear that this is something normal and something a lot of others go through when they decide that they need to break out of their comfort zone. Thank you Chris, invaluable episode!
Aka the dark night of the soul… interesting to think some high achievers never leave it….
I agree with this I’m currently expanding into looking for new friends as I just graduated from school and there’s an unsaid thing about wanting to leaving and knowing well I’ve always had a loneliness chapter
I went through this in 2008.
Followed by a dark night of the soul.
It is a threshold.
If you don't back out and survive it, you will really have something.
I'm going through this right now. Super focused on crypto and building my portfolio. None of my friends are into it but they're happy with their 9 to 5 lifes, but Im trying to get out of it.
Steven is such a great listener - that could be the reason that he is so insightful and fastly grasps the meaning of a topic. Loved to see him get interviewed. Even more impressive that he is one of the podcasters that will give his guests the space, holds it and only adds to the person he is interviewing without interrupting or trying to hard to lead the way of the conversation.
Also added few questions in return. Totally enjoyable!
I wish
I could be so patient
for an answer 🙌🙌
Steven is just what we need to listen to!! Awesome
He still wants to learn 😍amazing attitude
Marvellous topics & so inspiring
Steven is one of the smartest people on CZcams and his interviews are mind-blowing. Whoever he's interviewing seems to be on the same intellectual level and he's interviewing the elite of mankind.
17:35 if you're struggling with low self confidence, low self esteem, feel stuck or that you're going nowhere , THIS part is a must listen. It's about making and keeping your own commitments to yourself.
Incredible episode, absolutely love both of you ❤️
Love you too
This was a 12/10 level conversation
These guys are wise beyond their years. It’s taken me three decades of adulthood to piece together just fractions of all these insights. Young people today don’t appreciate the ease of access to this wealth of insight
Bartlett is great both as interviewer AND interviewee!
Bartlett is right about us being ruled by our beliefs, but dead wrong about our being unable to change our beliefs.
After decades of conscious, intentional struggle, one thought at a time, I can honestly say that the contents of my mind are completely different from what they were when I started, to the extent that the 25 year old version of myself would not be able to in any way believe that he would grow into the person I am today, and would have absolutely no grid for understanding my motivations.
Not only that, but I'm able to drop my entire thought and feeling process at will, and simply be with what is.
So, don't believe that you can't change your beliefs.
BTW, The hardest part by far is choosing what to believe.
Your conscious intentional struggle presented you with new evidence about yourself which is what Steven was actually talking about. He never said that it's impossible to change beliefs. Interesting how we can hear the same thing differently...:) Your journey sounds amazing and expansive.... more power to you ❤
“Game recognizes game.” Dude, excellent way to wrap that up. Love you both, keep it up
What's really refreshing is to hear two young men being honest and transparent about the dichotomy of success and suffering.
WOW two of my favorite podcasters together. This conversation was amazing, one of the best I’ve ever heard.
So much GOLD from this conversation. I took so much notes and gave me new ideas on the bigger picture of my life and what steps to take next. Especially about the part about driven by principle and curiosity, loneliness - the real stuff! These guys know what they’re talking about and have been through it all.
I agree, this talk was bloody excellent!
Would you be willing to share your notes 🙏
I’m time stamping the story of Chris Eubanks Jr at 23:00 because it’s so powerful. I have a habit of starting off strong, but have a tendency to slow down towards the end. I need to get better and I will. Thanks for this bit.
Subscribed 6 months ago. The worst part of my day is driving to work. This has become my favourite part of the day. Love listening to Chris and his guests.
What a priviledge to be listening to this conversation. It’s like listening to a dance. Impossible yet it exists.
This feels like watching a really pro tennis match. You both return the ball so swiftly, intensely, deep & sharp. I stop to check if it’s in normal speed or I accidentally roll it in 1.25 speed. As this is so so good. LOL. Originally listen to this before bed to sleep but it wakes me up instead. MORE PLEASE!
when you're talking about production quality and then it cut to the wide view of you guys sitting so close to eachother it made me smile. Wasn't expecting it. Love you guys thank you for what you're doing
Shoutout to Chris for highlighting Steven’s traps with lighting 💪🏽
There is some magic made with these two guys being together! Nicely done!
2 of my FAVOURITE PODCASTERS in the ONE EPISODE 🔥🔥 LES GOH !
I hardly ever leave comments these days, but wanted to say how great this episode was, natural and truly insightful conversation. If this was the only one, I'd be content. Another one would be a privilege 🙏🏽
Two people whom influenced my life like no-one did! Thank you!
I’ve bought both of Steven’s books and I can listen to this man talk for hours. So much knowledge and a simple way to convey it 😊
Lol best buy self Stevens books very inspirational man intriguing
29:50 The magic you are looking for is the work you're avoiding
Chris never listened to one of your podcast before but listens to Steven’s - you two together are dynamic so interesting it felt like you were having a conversation in your living room about what each of you have learned and we were just there in the background catching pieces of wisdom from two masters.
Is a bit special - so much wisdom.
This chat was great gents. Two great orators of todays podcast world simply chatting and letting us in the room 🙏🏼
If this episode was 34hrs long I'd get hospitalised in 2 days.
Man what a episode! 🤯 been waiting and wanting another pod with Steven as a guest and especially on the modern wisdom podcast! You two have climbed to the top 2 spots in my favorite list of podcasts to listen to and it will be because of you 2 guys that I start my own podcast with the goal of eventually turning into a full time position, and one day willingly and hopefully meet you both and manifesting you both as a guest on my podcast!
There’s so much complex valuable information in these podcasts I have to watch them like 5 times before I feel like I’m doing them justice.
Good evening Chris and Steven
No words without sounding like a Granny and a Mum. In this wee moment.
Just to say, my wonderful young adult kids should be paying attention to both your work, more than their Mum. I do continue to recommend though!
But admittedly I have gained so much from your shared work and associated guests you converse with, whom share their experience and knowledge.
Has been a lot of everything nearly, I have required over passing couple of years. Tough times!
So wow, loving this.
Grateful.
Truly.
💜
This episode was so content dense with the back and fourth conversations being so eloquently put that I had to keep rewinding to just grasp a concept that seemed to be delivered so effortlessly. I absolutely love watching two people who are genuinely passionate about the pursuit of knowledge discuss ideas and concepts in such a professional manner, but what else can you expect from two of the best podcasters out there!
Much love from South Africa mate! ♥️💪🇿🇦
One of the best podcasts for self improvement out there, so much value between these two modern gems. Thank you for blessing us all with your wisdom! 🙏
FAV episode thus far. The banter between you two is not only so insightful but so natural. Thank you both. 🔥
As a 66 year old bloke who, by my own admission, hasn't done a lot of value in my life that I can be proud of, I find this interview in particular, but Chris's interviews and content generally to be a wonderful source of support. Self respect hit home here and the commitment to myself which I have been a spectacular failure at. I still don't understand how I've managed to be where I am as one of the more fortunate people in the world at the moment with mostly first world problems that I do my best to keep to myself. Thanks for providing such valuable information for the rest of us to draw inspiration from. Still many more years left to learn for me.
Hey just wanted to say thank you so much for this. I've been really struggling this year as have many I'm sure. Background of childhood abuse/neglect etc. Recent major depressive episode and a lack of self confidence that has been with me my whole life. Anyway although I've always been into exercise and eating well and positivity, etc. this year something changed and I took the short slide right down into the happy ball pit of hell. Suicide attempt, lost my job, the whole nine yards. But today... I got up early and went for a long walk (haven't gone for one in ages), planned my day out, took care of business and adhered to today's goals. I feel so much better. I feel like maybe I can do this. As a small reward to myself after dinner, I had some carrot cake lol (one of the best things to exist!), but only ate half instead of the whole thing like I usually do. I'm a huge pot smoker, but have decided to only smoke on the weekend instead of every damn night lol. My sleep last night was much better and I feel more energy already. Thanks for this encouraging video guys! I feel like I can do this. WE can do this! Don't give up! Everyone deserves to give themselves another chance. Cheers!
I’m going through something similar - a life crisis involving losing my beloved home & workplace & life as I knew & loved it. I know how much it takes to break the pattern of self-sabotaging behaviour & am inspired by your productive day.
Keep going, life IS worth living though we sometimes can’t see it. And know that you are not alone. I am walking your painful path too as we speak ❤️🙏🏻
Sounds like you’re learning (teaching yourself, to be more precise) how to be your own best cheerleader instead of your own worst critic!
Best of luck to you 🙌🏾
Hey there I hope your doing better give yourself many chances if you stumble get up and give yourself a chance again and again long walking episodes I've found are great for clearing your mind and upping your energy levels a day at a time wishing you every happiness❤
One of my favorite podcast discussions of all time! So many powerful points touched on so eloquently.
The combined knowledge both the speakers shared is beyond measure and should be in a book. Thanks for the great collaboration!
Twenty minutes in an I am already touched deeply. I need to keep my word to myself and have that compound. Thank you Chris! Your podcast will always keep me engaged and learning.
You guys keep in dropping knowledge left and right! Thank y’all for being disciplined and committed to doing this. Probating amazing and useful content anyone can use !
Best podcast I’ve listened to, been a real eye opener for me. So many lessons and ways that I can improve that I’ve been able to take from this. Thank you.
Both of these guys have saved so many lives. Absolutely amazing gentlemen.
Whose life have they saved, real question. What do you mean?
One of the highest quality interviews I’ve watched. It was an insightful back and forth! Thank you for the deliverables and takeaways with a lot of the topics gentlemen
Half way through this and WOW. What a back and forth of pure genius. Such deep insights from both
great episode! Nice to hear and see Steven as a guest for a change. Think of all the things hes heard. Imagine the wisdom he hold now, and will gain in decades from now. Hes on track to being more famous then he could imagine.
I LOVE Steven’s show. I found the short vid and had to subscribe and come here to watch the full length. Now I am a fan of both of you. Thank you! 🙂
Thank you both for a wonderful conversation. I will be listening to this again!
I think this is your best podcast episode yet chris. Feels like two friends on a hike chatting.... 10/10
This is my favorite talks, of all talks, that I’ve ever listened to. From start to finish, full of gems!! Love ❤️ ❤❤❤
I love listening to both of you individually, together is magic. With regards to commitments that you keep with yourself, Steven Covey junior’s book “the speed of trust” talks about the first layer of building trust and keeping promises to yourself. That’s my favorite book - thanks again gents for a episode!!
I love that book
Steven Covey also talks about integrity (keeping commitments) in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
How many people immediately went and looked at the 4k in the title of this video 😂
😂
🙋🏻♀️🤓
Ahahahaa me!!
This might be the best conversation I've ever listened in on. Amazing podcast episode.
Thank you Chris, thank you Steven, you and your work change my life daily, and if its only mentally.
Respect to you, appreciate your hard work and for being a rolemodel for me.
Steven's comment of how he chooses his tight circle for feedback is soooooooo resonating. Love that answer.
Brilliant brilliant chat. Thank you both for bringing so much knowledge and inspiration, and especially for showing us also your vulnerabile side, which gives hope to many of us grinding to get there. ❤️
Absolutely brilliant conversation. I enjoyed every second of it. THANK YOU to both of you!
I want to see these podcasts go on for the next 10 years, it’s the ultimate interview/ knowledge dispersal format
Listening to my two favorite men on the internet🥰 Love this! I need to find friends like them.
Thank you so much for this conversation.
It's really been enriching.
These 2 together could re-shape the world. What an intense, enlightening, inspiring and highly intellectual conversation. Really enjoyed it.
Sensational to have two open and brilliant minds spend time together.....for us!
Thankyou.
Such an insightful conversation- thank you for creating it 🙏🙌
My two favs
This conversation is PURE GOLD! ✨✨
What a piece of value. Thanks for the great conversation both of you.
Lots of gems in this conversation. Thank you so much. ❤
Epic conversation. Two brains connected like a puzzle in this Universe!
So many important takeaways in this conversation - truly inspiring!
This one went into my favorites. Absolute gold. Thank you sooooo much!!
39:26 this is electric. Also, you both like Fred again and see his greatness. Two very intelligent and inspiring individuals. Thank you for sharing.
Well done on the deep dive gentlemen! Gratitude to the teams that worked hard to produce great insightful content!
Loved this podcast, two of my favourites together is as amazing as I thought it would be. Thank you 🙏
Fascinating and informative! Love this pod and it's really captivate to see 2 favorite podcaster doing the convo, so much wisdom.
Such a great podcast, so much to learn from . Listen to you both regularly
I can listen to this conversation all day
I've just watched 3 episodes back to back. You're killing it.
Love this conversation, honest and inspiring 😊
This was a flippen great episode between the two greats.
Alot spoken in the interview for me, confirmed that I'm on the right similar track of a lonely road to success but a hard road that keeps me content.
Thank you, gentlemen.
Much love all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
I have listened to MANY of your podcasts. This one particularly AWESOME, ENLIGHTENING, INTERESTING, INFORMATIVE. THANK YOU ❤
The Frame! By far one of the best interviews I have listened to.
Wisdom is a by-product of experience and what we choose to learn from it.
Fantastic. Both of you have wisdom beyond your years.
Thank you both! Great sharing!
So many gems of wisdom- found this podcast addictive listened to it everywhere I went this afternoon - just couldn’t put it down till it finished! Brilliant observations, insights, advice etc etc etc! Love the honesty and integrity of the whole thing 👍
Good luck. I hope we can all avoid the hyper individualisation but not ignore all the good wisdom.
This is a truly eye opening experience
Some incredible gems of ideas. So much of wisdom in Steven.
😊This is one of your greatest of all. You are very well-studied on each interview, and your psychology skills are superb. Keep your open-minded views as they are so refreshing!
This was fantastic. Thank you both for making the world a better place
By far, the best and in the flow conversation I have listened to in quite some time. So many gems in it, so many truths, so much wisdom. Thank you Chris and Steven for being authentic, curious and willing to share your process and internal progress with us ❤ having a face to face conversation with both of you goes into my bucket list 😊
Two of my favourite podcasters , fantastic episode Chris , few people explore issues as deeply as you do! I like your way of thinking especially with the mono thinking.
You can’t choose your beliefs, until you realize that you can influence them.. she wasn’t using hypnosis alone, but regression therapy based on attachment and psychodynamic theory.. other than that fine point, love this talk!!
It´s the best Podcast I´ve ever watched. Thank you both.
Ive listen to this more than once and will continue. It inspires me in so many ways to change, to be better, to understand how to move forward in a more productive way. It’s the best podcast I’ve listened to.
