  • Rich Roll is an ultra-endurance athlete, podcaster and an author.
In today’s modern world, relentless pursuit of goals often leads to being overworked and burnout. Finding the balance between working hard enough to achieve your dreams without destroying your sanity along the way is a difficult balance, but Rich seems to have found a solution.
Expect to learn what it means to have “lower companions” who hold you back, why we all are so addicted to progress, why you might be more dependent than you think, who is the most controversial athlete in all of endurance racing, why Rich takes a “Manuary” sabbatical, how to deal with setbacks, the keys to resilience and much more…⁣

Best one yet. It’s taken me 55 years to figure this out. And it’s so true. We don’t change until we can’t handle the pain anymore. And many never do it. They would rather play victim.

Welcome to the club. I'm retired and having the time of my life. I've discovered Bitcoin and blockchain tech. Not enough hours in the day to digest this fast changing, exciting environment. Unfortunately family and friends think I've lost my marbles.
I had to work at rewiring my mindset, unlearn the bs I carried with me for most of my life and make a disciplined approach at understanding money. I walk alone on this journey, except for the vibrant Bitcoin community online that are so generous in sharing their knowledge, especially to an old trout way past her use by date.
I have no idea where this is taking me. Except that fiat is stacked against me and bitcoin gives me hope. I no longer despair.

I’ve followed Rich for many years now. He’s had a profound influence on my life. I collapsed inwards after a battle with the Big C. Now, I’m back, running and rowing. Before and after the battle, I’d always reinvented myself. There were days when I wanted to throw the towel in. I just gave myself a good talking to and luckily came out of the darkness. My lesson learnt was to avoid negative people or comments. It can be very lonely, but I trusted myself that everything will work out.

This is what I needed to hear tonight. I went 10 years without alcohol then i went back to it for a year but just quit a couple of weeks ago. Had it not been for prayers I dont know where i'd be.
I spoke to a counselor last week and she noticed how i stayed sober for a decade thanks to jogging almost daily and then suddenly i had to drink in order to go jogging because of fear. I had gotten stabbed at a jogging trail and not only that but when the cops got there i was beaten too. I live in a small city in texas so it wasn't easy to think I had to protect myself from the bad guys and the "good guys." I totally admire the great guys in law enforcement and just because of a few bad apples I decided to forgive all that and just move on and contiue to give the good cops their props. As William Blake would say: "Forgiveness is my religion."

It really struck a chord with me when Chris brought up wanting a friend group that you’re attracted to but they don’t reciprocate. I’m searching out another church and that is one of two reasons why. I am in my 60s but have the energy & interests & personality of someone in their 40s. However, i have never been able to break into that age group of friends in my church. And, I even teach their kids in children’s church so we do have a common bond in that, too. The 70ish crowd has open arms for me, but I feel so out of place with them.

No offense but what makes you think that changing churches is going to make a difference? I have moved a lot as an adult. Communities tend to be stamped with a certain personality. I am in a similar situation trying to find intellectual friends who want to talk about something other than doggie day care and children's poetry. I’ve always felt that Rich Roll is authentic and a great person and thinker but with a wall up somehow, a distance between he and anything else. I think it’s mainly because of the delivery- measured, presented by strings of impressive vocabulary words and beautifully crafted sentences. Like poetry.
But Rich Roll,, in this conversation for the first time, I see that wall down. He’s more real and likable than I’ve ever seen him and I like him! What a great conversation. This gem of a podcast is the reason I’ll subscribe to this channel and share this podcast with people I care about.

Damn guys. This is exactly what what I needed today. After five years and 700 episodes of the Think Unbroken podcast I'm so excited to take a much needed break. Rich pointed it perfectly... People really don't understand what it takes to make a podcast great. Appreciate you guys. Looking forward to seeing you soon

3:00 - “In an age where social media allows us to see successes from people very young, it gives a good bit of solace to people who feel like, ‘I’m forty, not I’m on the back nine, and I haven’t even started swinging the golf club yet.’”
Rich: “I know what that feels like. I was that guy.”
I would read an entire book about this exact thing. What can a man do to turn his life around he’s forty, his career is dead, he has no momentum?

I've been burned out so much in my life and relate to your situations of pushing myself to the point of suffering. Thank you so much for helping me see there's a way to heal this!

Keep it up and let my learn beside you. :)

thats when he started, results take a while. for me i started at 25, im 28 and much has improved but not enough. i spent time trying things out to see what sticks and what direction i want to go career wise, only a year ago i found it after trying things and figuring out they werent for me. yet i still havent gotten a career in it, ive been looking for a job for the past few months and the economy isnt helping. Just have to endure and keep grinding, i almost feel like my life is on pause, i stopped going out and live like a monk now. but its what is necessary, and i have to succeed there is no other option. I wish i started earlier, my late teens and early twenties was wasted by drugs and being a degen
