  • Disney Marvel's Phase 4 was nothing short of a storytelling and financial DISASTER. After a year of spamming massively reshot content, the once-mighty MCU is experiencing some performance issues. In a recent interview, Kevin Feige denied there would be any "superhero fatigue," but anyone with eyes can see there is M-She-U fatigue.

Not really anything new, "wokeness" is their exploitation, just a greater fraud to abuse, extort, and redefine arbitrarily.

I must admit when X-Men came out, I didn't even realize how diverse the cast was and it seemed natural, in fact it was the fact that no one single mutant could handle any and every problem but the team would cover each others weaknesses in situations that made it a dynamic team up!!!

    • @shawntco
      @shawntco Před rokem +35

This is a good point! At least in corporate speak, what makes diversity good is the fact it brings in people from different backgrounds and abilities. This results in people and teams who come up with unique and innovative solutions to problems. Because you don't have the too-similar thought processes that comes from everyone being a similar demographic. It seems Marvel is largely missing that point. They're bringing on women and minorities, and presenting them as simply better than their white and male predecessors. This fulfills the "letter of the law" of diversity, namely, changing up sexes and skin colors and such. But it misses the "spirit of the law" of diversity, namely, presenting new perspectives that bring new ways to more effectively solve problems.

A big part of this whole problem is the fact that years ago movies and shows were made for a target audience. Nowadays those markets just aren’t big enough for the behemoths that these companies have grown into. So unfortunately, this is the result, they create movies and shows based on certain metrics that they feel will garner the most viewership while upsetting the least amount of people.
However, in this case, they are upsetting the Normie’s many of which are at an age where most of their discomfort goes unheard, since they don’t even use social media outlets to complain in the first place. Meanwhile, all of the blue haired SJW‘s are pretty much for the most part failing at life, and have nothing better to do then go online and complain via social media to anyone who will listen how bad they have it, and why it is the entertainment industry that is causing all of their troubles. From idolizing women and objectifying them thus creating a false body image, to problematic males, who have dominant masculine behavior that crushes their feeble attempts at anything successful in life.

Growing up, I was a big fan of X-Men the animated series. It was so well crafted. The story of mutants was universally relatable. Media abstractly taught me life lessons, touched on difficult situations, found intelligent ways to tell stories. So much so that when I've rewatched "Kid's movies" from the 90's I realized how well they told & crafted stories that adults and kid's can enjoy & appreciate. (Pretty much anything created by Don Bluth or Written by Roald Dahl) The Brave little toaster, James and the giant peach, The never ending story, Jumanji, Hook, The secret of the Nimh, Sword and the stone, black cauldron, beetle juice, Alice in wonderland, Rock-a-doodle, Captain Planet, Thundercats, He-man, Spawn, Matilda, The BFG, Ren and stimpy, courage the cowardly dog, magic school bus, Dexter's laboratory, pinky and the brain, rocko's modern life, Ah! Real monster's, goosebumps, are you afraid of the dark, pee wee's playhouse, she-ra warrior princess, Flintstones, the Jetsons. So many more I won't list them all but they had such creative range. So many ways of telling stories. So many types of creatures, unique worlds, weird things, macabre things. I loved how we used to embrace those things. Nowadays everything is so bland or Shallow live action version's filed with nonsense & hollowness. I miss the Era of creativity, of animated series, of things that made us utilize our intelligence. Artistic depictions of the Human condition that connects us on a deeper level. No matter what kind of character, creature, specie's they are. I seriously don't understand who can enjoy these modern live action movies. Filled with so much disconnected CGI. Cheap cop out writing, acting, storytelling that is treating our entire audience like they are 2 yr olds that just need a pair of shiney keys waved in front of them for entertainment... it's a very bland & soulless way to entertain... Seeing how things are nowadays, i feel so lucky that i got to grow up in the 90's. Back then I never could have guessed that things would have changed the ways they did. It was such a great time to be a kid. The world seemed to have so many creative ways kids, teens and adults could all enjoy themselves. Entertaining movies with practical effects. Animated movies/shows galore. If they used CGI it was used intelligently. I really miss the Vibe of that Era. The creativity that came from that era. I really hope we find a way to reconnect with it because the world seems like it really needs it right now. I mean just look at the aesthetics compared to now? Things have somehow become so bland, bleek, and minimalism that it doesn't even make since. Most Old house's/building's/unique shop's are gone. Interesting oddities like drive in movies, indoor fun zones, arcade's, magazines that came with a demo disc to try out game's, blockbuster/Hollywood video, McDonald's had N64's, you could preview music before buying it, they had great kid's toy's, Roller Rink's, Garbage pale kid's card's. You get the point. I want to reignite that feel sort of like Retro-Futurism or that Y2K Vibe compared to this current Dystopian pessimism that seems solely focused purely on capitalistic agendas. Our Quality of Life should be better than this.

I feel like there's a mountain of cherry-picking here to make a point. Comics (and most print media/content: newspapers, books, etc.) have been in decline LONG before the MCU was a thing. Video games based on movies have a long history of under-performing, as have movies based on video games. Neither of these are really a reflection on what Marvel/Disney have been doing, per se. We have to keep in mind that these movies are intended to tap a *VASTLY* larger audience than just hardcore comics fans. Half the newer characters in these movies - I'll admit to never having even heard of them. So, it's more important overall to see what *everyone* will find appealing, rather than solely make every character a carbon-copy of what is in the comics to pander to the hardcore fans. Furthermore, even within the comics, characters vary wildly between writers/artists/story arcs.
The revision process is something that happens constantly in any creative pursuit, especially in gaming and movies. That Marvel does this so much is not as much an indication they are doing anything wrong aside from the fact they have such a frenetic release pace, and that these revisions much harder to do than they would normally be. This is why gaming companies have so much "crunch" time. The VFX/artists in those industries deal with this daily. You're conflating moving quickly, with doing something "wrong".
People can very much get fatigue from anything. For me, personally, I don't care how much everyone raves about the newer Spiderman movies; after a EIGHT movies, and FOUR actors, I couldn't care less if they ever make another Spiderman movie. I'm over it (the same with zombie/vampire anything).
The issue with the female leads isn't so much that they exist, but that they don't allow them to have story arcs. They pretend being strong (only for women) is an inherent trait, rather than the fact that people push past their weaknesses to BECOME strong. Just as soldiers are not inherently fearless; they train relentlessly to push PAST that fear. Modern superhero movies are afraid to ever show a female being perceived as "weak" or ever getting beat up (ESPECIALLY if the antagonist is a male), acting as if that disempowers the character. In reality, that gives them the potential for the story arc - for them to go from defeat to success, like they do with male superheroes. Writing 101: have your characters suffer incredible punishment/defeat early on to get the audience to CARE about that character. We'll, that's not allowed for female superheroes, which prevents people from having empathy for them, or caring about them. They go from undefeatable goddess to undefeatable goddess, with no character arc. They are lifeless shells, rather than people. People don't start out perfect.
I think you're a little too obsessed with the idea that everything is "woke". When everything that happens is woke, you just have confirmation bias. The sun rose? WOKE!!! When that becomes the blanket excuse for everything, the narrative is definitely skewed. Something being woke should never be the baseline expectation; just as we don't charge people as guilty before evidence is presented. While there certainly is SOME woke stuff in the MCU; it's not the sole reason everything happens.

I think that representation is a good thing to an extent. Writers have to relate to their characters to make them believable. For example, if you're going to write about Christian✝ characters like Hell Boy, Daredevil, or Night Crawler, it might be good to have a Christian writer on the team. That makes the characters more relatable and believable. The problem comes when that's the ONLY reason you hire someone.

So I was at a wedding in 2018, my friend married an Indian girl and it was held outside Bristol. I meet this random dude and we're chatting, shooting the shit, similar careers and both geeks. His wife comes over, Asian girl with an English accent. We had just both agreed that Last Jedi wasn't up to our expectations and was a let-down. She immediately jumped in with this cursory, dismissive line, "Yes there's definitely Star Wars fatigue, absolutely". Now my combative, eager geek self wasn't quite ready to get talked over, and I made my point as strongly as you ever can in that kind of social situation "I hear you, but for me, this is the only Star Wars movie I didn't like, and we're talking about a franchise that existed for decades without any movies, there was huge appetite for more Star Wars. 3 movies in and people are tired of it??" She suggested that of course some of the themes wouldn't be for everyone and some people definitely struggle with diversity (at this point I knew I was talking to a human representation of a serpent), so I just chuckled and said "No, no honestly I just loved the cowboys and knights in space and I'm a huge fan of samurai, so losing out on lightsabre battles just made the movie far less fun for me" She then was relatively incredulous and said but there are lightsabre fights. My response: "There's a fight with faceless, nameless stooges, with no build up, and Rey and Kylo dispatch them quickly and with ease. And they're using tonfas or sais or something, a lightsaber is a sword. And then Luke vs Kylo, it's pointless because he's not even there, and so they never clash blades. I wanted duels with weight and meaning and stakes. Just didn't get what I wanted"
She was really unhappy at my disagreeing with her, and said something fairly curt like oh well, like I said it's not for everyone. Turns out this brash, obnoxious Asian-English girl was a producer for the BBC, and not just an opinionated and domineering troll. When I was told after I was amazed, and I'll go back to it: "Star Wars fatigue". In 2018. I swear she bleated that crap like a manifesto directive! Now I'm not suggesting conspiracy at all, what I am saying is these companies quite likely have collaborated to produce this woke-ass crap and use the same expressions to legitimise each other.
There is no Star Wars/Superhero fatigue. We don't get fatigued and bored of entertaining things. We get bored because something sucks and is boring! I will never understand exactly how thin skinned and pathetic these dopes are that they have to complicate things so much!
Good movie: happy fans, lots of money!
Shit movie: Bored/fatigued fans, nooo money.

Marvel studios has been using free-lance VFX artists to build and rebuild entire sets over and over again because of a problem with the writing and directing. So instead of trying to make it all work in one go, they just go “eh, will fix it in post” not realizing how much work that will actually be, and whether or not it will look any good. Of course I’m generalizing here, but it’s definitely the vibe I got from black widow and it’s really the vibe I got from MOM. I'm so glad he said that about Feige and Endgame, though I would go a step farther. I would say I think the entire MCU would have been better served if Disney just did a soft reset after Endgame. Do a couple movies up to No Way Home, and use No Way Home as a soft reboot and start a new epic story. You don't have to worry about continuity with actors choosing to move on (captain america) you don't have to somehow weave the last decade of movies into the succeeding storylines, and you don't have to constantly worry about somehow raising the stakes higher and higher than Endgame, because they're all new stakes instead of successive stakes.
I loved everything up through Endgame, even some of the rougher films, because it felt cohesive and like there was an endgame coming. Right now it feels like there's no plan, and Endgame was such a perfect explanation point to the entire series that everything is going to be compared back to it. Let it end at Endgame and be a perfect end cap, and go on with something new and different without all the baggage.

@@JunayedMahin Yup. It takes me few days just to render a photorealistic walking model. Not to mention thousands of props, cameras and dealing with light issues. People just don't understand how tiresome it can get just to make a simple 60 secs animated frame. While we spend the long nights working, these woke idiot goons sleep comfortably, and bitch the next morning about how genius and perfect they are to criticize our work.

They continue to make women more powerful than men but refuse to make an all-female superhero movie for the same reason they won't make an all-LGBT superhero movie; because no one will watch it. So they mix it all in with the heroes you actually want to see, who can draw an audience while force-feeding this nonsense down our collective throats.
