  • The Ukrainian military has conceded that Russian troops are making gains along its northeastern border.
Their advance deeper into the Kharkiv region has prompted fears among Western allies of a major assault on Ukraine's second-largest city.
Russia's latest offensive comes as Ukraine is facing a shortage of weapons and soldiers.
Is the Ukrainian army on the back foot, while trying to defend the 1,000km front line?

Fact check: the Ukrainians didn't force the Russians out. Much of the withdrawal was as a good will gesture after the Istanbul tentative peace deal. The rest was a tactical choice by the Russians in their strategy of attrition, deliberately allowing Ukrainians to take land while influicting a lot of casualties, often in their best units. The shortened front line helped the Russians. We're seeing the strategy of attrition has been the victorious one after 2 years. Ukraine simply doesn't have enough reserves to back up an expanded front.
It's unlikely Russia will give a direct assault on Kharkiv as it has a lot of ethnic Russians and Russia has always strived to minimize civilian casualties and destruction. The building destruction in Mariupol was generally because of battalions firing from those buildings, so Russia targeted them back.

Finland joining nato hurts Finland more than Russia. Finland benefited Russia very little, tho the long border between them takes forces. But Russia has so many nuclear weapons, it is not good idea for these new Nato countries to harrass Russia. US hopes to open a new front against Russia, thinking you can win a nuclear superpower in conventional warfare. If they even could as Russia has thousands of new hypersonic missiles that can be armed with tactical nukes aswell. The west should make peace before they demolish their own economy. Russia and China have got enough technology to take the controll of the world as Russia has the resources and China has the people and the most modern production facilities as a whole.
