  • Edmunds editor Travis Langness takes the new 2019 Ram 2500 out to see just what this rig has to offer. It has a fresh design, a high-tech user interface, and the latest advanced safety equipment.
Deep down, we know that's not what it's all about. All of the luxury trimmings on a heavy-duty rig are rendered useless if the truck can't perform where it counts: towing and hauling. And guess what? The new Ram 2500 shines in those categories, too.
When the 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 go on sale, you'll have your choice of six trim levels - Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Power Wagon, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn and Limited. You can expect quite a range when it comes to pricing. The 2500 Tradesman work truck starts at $35,090, including destination, while the top-of-the-line 3500 Limited with the high-output Cummins diesel stretches above $80,000.
    Q: What's under the hood?
    A: The 2019 Ram 2500 is available with two powertrains: a 6.4-liter V8 connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 6.7-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel connected to a six-speed automatic.
Q: How much power does it have?
A: The standard 6.4-liter engine makes 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The optional 6.7-liter turbodiesel makes 370 hp and a mere 850 lb-ft of torque.
    Q: What's the maximum payload?
A: With the standard V8, the max payload is 4,050 pounds. With the optional six-cylinder diesel, that number drops to 3,260 pounds.
Q: How much can it tow?
A: The Ram 2500 with the 6.4-liter V8 can tow as much as 17,580 pounds. With the 6.7-liter diesel engine, that number goes up to 19,780 pounds.

Especially with the 2020 F250 and Chevy 2500 with homely front end. RAM's interior continues to set the bar on both design and quality -- they've come a long way in a short time. Looks like the Fiat purchase was a really good move.

It’s not a “fast lane truck” review that goes into greater depth and testing, However your camera shots, your explanation of the trucks stats and how it stacks up is excellent. It is a very good into to the truck.

Zach Carpenter I used to be a General Motors fan. Don’t get me wrong. But when gm and Ford mechanics tell me they bought the dodge or ram instead. That speaks loudly. So I bought a 2001. It still on the road today a little rough around the edges. And the kicker is I see ten of the rams from that body style for every one of the gm or fords of the same period. That’s enough proof for me. When something is made well it always stands the test of time. 18 years and still goin strong.

I have a 2500 ram 2016 with the Cummins diesel engine and I love it! I'm looking to upgrade and this new one is really nice! great review video! One thing I actually really like about the 2016 was that the center consul folds up to become a seat in the middle. although I wouldn't use it as a seat, on long trips to my ranch, my girl could lay down on the front stretched out and so was super comfortable. Not sure how that can happen now... will the third middle seat still be an option? I loooooove this truck... best mileage and cargo capacity of any that I've used! -The 360 camera is suuuuper useful for the new version as this truck is huge!

wouldnt count on one. those models represent a tiny fraction of trucks sold, most who want a RC want a long bed to use as a work truck, and most who want a SB want a crew cab since they likely have families and dont need to haul a ton of stuff in the bed. I'd guess ram sold less last gen RCSB 1500 than they did last gen manual 2500/3500 trucks, and they got rid of the manuals, so...

I have been a Dodge Ram owner since 95. I bought 7 of those trucks. The most recent one was bought in July 2018. At 15,000 miles the back left tire was wearing terribly uneven compared to the rest of the tires. I took it to the dealer and they were no help. Told me to go to a Firestone dealer. I went to 2 Firestone dealers and got the same message..... the dealer will have to warranty this. I contacted Dodge directly and they said......."we don't warranty tires, here is firestone's number, at this time we will be closing this case". I said at this time I will be trading in my 2500 Tradesman and buying a Chevy. I will never again buy from Dodge if that's how they treated me after being brand loyal since 1995 and never bothering them about a single issue. I like the tow package but the front end is too low to the ground for a truck. I have engine problems now at 50,000. I bought it with 26,000 1 year ago. Lots of people are saying they have the same problems. Poor acceleration, shuttering, jerking, hesitating and shaking at highway speeds. GM has no fix for it. They say that it’s poor fuel and carbon/gunk buildup in the top end but none of this should happen until 200,000 or something not at low miles.

On the other hand if they do half measure they might as well sell stone wheels with hat new truck because that's what will be dragging around for the next 10 years.
