- Have you ever wanted to find fish with your Game Boy? Now you can with the Pocket Sonar! Released only in Japan in 1998, Bandai's "Gyogun Tanchiki: Pocket Sonar", aka Fish Finder: Pocket Sonar, hooked up to your Game Boy and contained a fish sonar, fish encyclopedia, and even a fishing mini-game!

"Sonar doesn't work with the Super Game Boy"
Darnit. I was just about to carry the TV out to my boat.
Oddly enought thats a good way to catch fish. If you happen to drop your tv in the water that is.
@@boriqua7453 But how can I catch the fish if the Super Nintendo won't tell me where they are? I could end up wasting a perfectly good TV!
You might actually be able to bring it with you if your boat were large enough. I'd imagined and Industrial fishing boat would be large enough to fit a TV and game console.
@@bored_person Any boat (besides a small toy boat) could fit a small flatscreen TV. And the SNES isn't that big either. Its smaller than most modern home consoles (besides the Switch that is)
@@zakuraRabbit won't matter. Any fish in proximity of the tv will come up to the surface.
That fish didn't know we had this kind of technology... it never stood a chance.

"Baaaahhhhh!"
The fact that you're using a Gameboy to catch fish in 2019 should let everyone know how amazing you are
And it surprisingly works, since he was able to catch a fish being a rather accurate sonar.
30 years
@komo have to imagine japanese fish a ton, most of their diet is seafood, largest fish market in the world probably, surrounded by water in all sides, and it's in every Zelda's game.
The tech is amazing. The user is not. Useful video nonetheless.
Gaming Historian just out here casually catching bluegill with a Gameboy sonar 'game'. A+ content.
Hilarious comment. Had me dying
he forget to catch a Largemouth Bass first to lure off the King Bluegill
Pretty big for a bluegill too.
I don’t know. The yellow belly may make that one a sunfish rather than a blue gill!
@@Lily-the-Dogg Bluegill are a species of sunfish
You know what I love about you? You make a terrible pun at the end of your video but you don't make it a jab at yourself like many other people, you just smile along knowing full in well what you've done. So nice, you're such a wholesome guy. Much love
I’m sad it doesn’t work with the super Game boy because I can just imagine a fishing boat with a CRT TV and a Nintendo SNES on the ocean for a fishing trip
If you think about it in a proper fishing boat it could actually probably work and the CRT would provide a bigger screen

I'd love if you covered the Solar-Boy add-on for GB and also there was a radio and the GBA had a solar one too. I have the one for GB and it actually worked well for me.
in answer to your question, the only GameBoy accessory that comes to mind is the GameBoy controlled sewing machine. However, there is something else that I have been meaning to ask you about: Could you tell the story of how and why these two GameBoy game trilogys were created?

@@gappuma7883 And you've just been r/Whooshed.
I dont believe in you
The part where he thanks the fish for helping is so wonderful.
It's not. The fish couldn't care less and was injured for no reason.
ScaryManiac You’re a good time. The wonderful part was he didn’t have to thank a fish, who like you mentioned didn’t know or care what was going on, for helping with the video. It’s intended to be comedic, and I’m sorry you cant enjoy something as simple as that.
@@icanclimbanything6384 that's the problem. It isn't that simple. The fish didn't know or care about the video. He does know though, that he's in pain now. People seem to ignore that it is EXACTLT like reaping your lip out. That is enough to not make me appreciate the "thank you" part.
But it's ok. I also thought in the past that it would be harmless.
ScaryManiac It sounds like you have a problem with fishing in general, not the comment. Which, I understand, it does seem pretty cruel, but hunting and fishing is important for population control in certain ecosystems. But it definitely isn’t for me.
@@icanclimbanything6384 but hunting for food is one thing and I do understand that. Hurting the fish just for sports and putting it back in, is another. He did say that he uses to throw it back in, so he does it occasionally (not only for this video). That is the stupid part. The fish gets injured for no reason at all.

Throwing that fish back into the water unceremoniously made me laugh so hard
In high school I saw an ad for a car tuner in Modified Magazine that uses a Game Boy Advance SP as the interface. I thought it was about the coolest thing ever but didn’t think I’d ever see one. Fast forward 3-4 years and I’m stationed in Germany. A friend of mine that knew nothing about cars had bought an SRT4 and needed help troubleshooting some issues. I sat in the drivers seat to get to work, look down and to the right, and low and behold that Game Boy tuner was plugged in and ready to go. I couldn’t believe it. It’s probably the coolest use for a Game Boy I’ve ever heard of
The way you threw the fish back so majestic
That fish be like
"How about you place me back gently you asssssssss..."
Throwing them like that can actually result in death...
"Throwing a fish back into the water is likely to greatly decrease the fish's chances of survival.
The major problem with tossing a fish back into the water is that the fish can go into shock, and float belly-up."
www.bishfish.co.nz/articles/general/releaserules.htm
also "Lifting a fish out of the water, dramatically decreases its survival chances. "
My cat would be like, "Shut up, food, I'm going to eat you"!
He should have killed it and eat it. Sport fishing is so senseless
There was something fishy about that pun at the end.
Finally someone is willing to point out the hard facts. Thank you good samaritan.
that was a fun video! the fishing segment was pretty cool! way to diversify your content
Considering its 1998 release date, the fact that this thing was also released for the Wonder Swan, and that there were some Game and Watch fishing games, maybe it was one of Gunpei Yokoi's many ideas...
