  • Apart from being an excellent footwork drill -- following one backside push with another, first from the stance transitioning to a butterfly slide, then a second from the butterfly -- this video simulates an extremely dangerous scoring opportunity. There are times when a single pass can create layered scoring chances, with one trailing or alongside another; the goalie has to respect and confront the first scoring threat, but be prepared to flow to the second if the puck goes through, adjusting both lateral position and depth accordingly. In this case, the goalie has to get his backside foot planted out ahead of his frontside knee as soon as the puck moves to the secondary shooter, at the bottom of the circle, in order close off the lower angle. The goalie displays excellent footwork, strong skating, good glove and stick position, and sound fundamentals throughout.
